I'll stick my neck out and say that Joel Smith will be an out.

Oscar might be lucky because of Smith's injury and the fact that none of the others coming back from injury are likely to be ready.

Not sure who the next in line for Smith's spot might be but perhaps Jack Watts goes back into defence and Spencer or Pedo give Gawn a chop out in the ruck.

Wagner if right in for Smith. When hibbo is ready to go Wagner out.

Tyson in for Smith. Not a like for like exchange obviously but unless they plan on throwing Keilty to the wolves, we're fresh out of medium defenders.

No other change. Kent is the only player realistically under consideration I'd have thought, but I'm happy enough for Garlett, ANB and Hannan for the time being.

Oscar for anyone.

No Tyson until one of our mids have a poor game and Tyson has a belter in the VFL.

There is absolutely no need for him to come into our side right now.

Not everyone in the team (referring to win over saints) is going to have a good game so having said that we must keep on plating Oscar.

Oscar clearly had a nightmare of a game and we all saw it. However, he is better than that and having now watched the game live, but also later on TV, there were a lot of little things he did well, which I didn't notice at the game..

Frost is probably not ready, but to be honest we need 3 big guys down back anyway, so he will get another game this week and hopefully plays well.

Oscar looked out of his depth but I don't think they'll drop him. He's a developing player with all of the potential of his brother. The more he plays, the better he'll become.

Similar thoughts on the Weid, doesn't look ready but needs game time.

I don't know about Melksham going forward. Would bring someone in for him but not sure who.

I agree but at the same time they couldn't take out Oscar even if they wanted to. We have nobody left. I thought he steadied a little after a very ordinary start.

I think after that inboard kick to Tracc in the second he got a bit of confidence and still made a couple of mistakes but looked better. He just needs to get rid of the confidence/hesitation errors that he had early, needs to play like he believes he should be there, right now he just looks too worried that he will make a mistake then does.

That will come with another 20 games and some more muscle.

I thought of Pedo in for Smith, as can play multiple positions.

Not sure how far away Frost is as he would be the automatic replacement

Cant think of who to drop for Kent and Tyson, good problem to have.

Oscar and Tom are very different players.

My concern with Oscar is his lack of leg speed and agility which are strengths of his brother.

This limits him his ability to match up on most modern forwards.

But we must persist, we have invested heavily and we are low on options.

I still think if fit Kent should replace ANB. But it would be really harsh to drop him after the way he played yesterday, I think it was his second best game for us. Behind his blinder in Geelong.

Omac wont be going anywhere. Carlton aren't tall forward so best performed at Casey should come in.

Agreed. Thought Omac improved the further the game went on. Despite some howlers, we need to continue to play him in seniors.

I don't recall the Geelong game being a blinder for ANB, but a game where he snagged a few.

Will Vince get weeks?

the saint's player certainly played it up. the vision of contact wasn't very good. would like to see more angles if available

Not sure if I watched the same game as the rest of you. Oscar had less howlers than Lewis, Vince and Jones. He's role is the spoil and he did that really well I thought. He's not the most polished player yet but there's no doubt he'll be best 22 every week if he plays like that

AFL game day on 7 is reporting Max Gawn (back) in its injuries. Anyone hear anything ?

he went off in the second due to his back, Im not sure how serious it is. Goodwin mentioned it in his presser

The Max GAWN injury report probably isn't something to worry about. It as also reported in the AFL website match reports, as 'back tightness'.

He went off for a while in the second, even headed down to the rooms, but came back on pretty soon after and played out the rest of the game with no apparent discomfort from his back or Tom Hickey.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
