Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

That sounds right on the money to me too, dazzle.  Came back a little short of the targets set for him, which was pretty clear, and he then has to make up the hard yards to the coaching group and the team.  He'll learn from it for sure.

Yes.

Unfortunately, he won't be able to put in place what he's learnt until next pre-season. In the meantime, we get someone who'll be underdone all year, but perhaps more seriously in terms of finals etc., we get someone who runs out of steam late in the season - as we saw with Hogan, who went through a similar experience last pre-season, and has confessed as much.

I am still at a loss, taking into account DD's information, I attended training on the first day Clarrie was back, he was clearly suffering from something, second session he had to pull out and after discussion with medical staff, sat down and waited for session to end

I approached him, he didn't look well and said he was feeling crook, I checked with Misso and he said the same thing

He disappeared from the next training session or two and then reappeared looking a lot better, I asked him after the session what had occurred and

said he had been sent for tests and it came back he had asthma/hay fever and was now on medication, but the whole episode had knocked him around, I would be surprised if he lied to me in such detail

He participated in the whole session or two after that, before appearing in the rehab/other group on Monday, as a lot of players including Nev Jetta and Dom Tyson have done the same, I didn't find this unusual

I also have approached Macca/Goodwin/Misso and asked whether anyone was brave enough to turn up not ready to go, and all said no, including Macca, you ask him a question and you get an answer, as others attest, so I believed them

I don't really care what you think SMJ,  I am over the negativity displayed on here, some need it to be able to post, I watched Clarrie motoring around the field  in repeat 400's the other day, didn't look underdone to me

All fair points, bing.  I'm slightly surprised that AFL players would still make these mistakes, but then we're all human.  Some like to learn the hard way.

If he is managed pretty well throughout the year then I'm sure he can still make a positive impact on the side, but it's still disappointing to see him potentially in this position.

Garland's problem is purely between his ears.  When he is "on" he attacks the ball, runs forward & takes risks.  Lately though he has just gone into his shell, he has become hesitant, won't take risks, goes sideways & backwards & fluffs his disposals.

People have probably forgotten that in his early days he did really good jobs on the likes of Buddy Franklin & Eddie Betts.

I agree when he takes the game on he is very good, I can't understand why he can't play with attacking speed every time he plays, taking no risk is more risky then taking no risk at all,  I also agree col is like Grimes, they are both back slappers, they plays one good game and then they pat himself's on the back and relax and are content

I agree that that level of detail and sequence of events strongly indicates he was ill as you say.  But I don't think what Macca/Goodwin/Misso said adds any weight at all - they would say that wouldn't they. Imagine the headlines if they had said yes, even without naming the player(s) and you reported that here. They'd be trying to deal with the fallout for months.

Sue, I get told a few things, so do another supporter or two who attend training, we choose not to post what we are told, as I have stated before if you ask Macca a question you get an answer, there are quite a few posters on here who have quite a bit of information from various sources, depends on whether they want to share or not, DD has an 'insider' in the club who has just done the very thing you mentioned and the player was named

To you or I, most, if not all AFL listed players running repeat 400's are not going to look 'underdone'.

Regardless, perhaps your info was correct after all. But that's not to say what others have heard isn't true either.

Perhaps both are true.

Coming into his second year, I don't really mind that this kind of thing has occurred, (if what is being said is true). At least it's early in his career and he now knows there are no shortcuts at this level. Posters are hardly up in arms about it so there's no need to defend him.

Brayshaw was having a few too many soft drinks during the season this year, Hogan didn't do enough last pre-season. It happens with young players all the time.

Relax big fella.

SMJ I have been attending training regularly since they moved from Junction Oval, so I can tell if a player is struggling, I know of one player who is struggling at the moment

You will find that it is the information I provide that is regarded as untrue by some posters

Good to see Clayton Oliver putting in the hard yards after coming back in poor condition. Spoke to Oliver's former Bushies coach and now current development coach at Casey and fair to say Goody and Misso were pretty disappointed. It wasn't the fact he did no running its more that he didn't reach his target that was set out for him. Its not a serious issue as Hogan and Nibbler went through the same thing last year, but just means they start behind the eight ball.

This is great insight into some behind the scenes intel on the team.

Thanks so much DD, fantastic to read a little scoop on Clarry's progress and the reason he's in rehab.

Certainly answers a few questions at last.

Hopefully will be the making of him as a player.

He's not the only good player to get a foot up the arse and won't be the last.

We have the leadership at the club to pull him into line.  Will be interesting to see next season if he is a Round 1 starter or is made to work

Sat.. I don't want to get into a pissing contest with you as i have actually hadn't mind reading your training reports. But the 6 to 8 weeks off Clarry has had off since the VFL grand final is plenty of time to get his fitness up to a standard Misso and Goody wants. He obviously didn't meet that requirement and is now doing work with Crossy (poor kid) to get him up to speed. I read last week that you mentioned Oliver had picked up the hayfever asthma symptom when first week of training had started. By then they would have done skin fold testing and thats when they would have picked up that Oliver hadn't reached those required targets.

The Hey fever would not have stopped him doing the required physical work that was set out for him during that time off. Lets not forget that it was also mentioned in the MFC website that he turned up in unacceptable shape.

What i also will say on this issue is that its not a major crime that he has turned up in poor shape. I read Lenny Hayes biography and he mentioned that in his 2nd Pre Season he turned up 7 kilos overweight from his footy trip experience of sinking [censored] in Mexico! The coaching staff gave him a bake and made him run lap after lap to catch up to the rest of the group. He never did it again.

Just goes to show even the true superstars of the game have had off season hiccups and have come out even stronger. Clarry will learn from this just like Hogan has.

Rumour has it that while AFL Players Association delegates were gathered in Torquay today amid increasingly tense pay negotiations, one rank and file Demon is already on a pre-season strike and has not been seen around Gosch's Paddock for several months.

Long time reader. First time contributor. Too Saty and all the others who contribute to the forum and provide training updates, you are legends! Thank you very much. Always something to look forward to...... On the Oliver situation, I have someone on the inside. Think you might find that Oliver is on deliberate modified program due to his OP flaring up again mid year, last season, which he had before he was drafted. This being the case, it makes you wonder what the ceiling could be considering the levels he reached last season.

Interesting to read the comments about Clarrie - let's just wait & see - regardless of how he presented at the 1st training session and what his skin folds may or may not have been, the fact is that he is as seriously good as any midfielder we have seen debut for the Dees in the past 20 years.

As for Colin Garland, no doubt that 2017 is effectively 'make or break' for him.

I am prepared to give him1 final chance - I well remember him going off his nut against the filth in 2014 (or possibly 2015) when he was let down time & again whilst playing on that overpaid [censored], Travis Cloke.

Colin battled on with SFA support from the midfield or his fellow defenders.

Hopefully he will get a chance to show his true worth in a team 'on the up'.

Failing that, No. 20 will be looking for a new torso to drape itself on in 2018.

'The player formerly known as Prince' is the correct title, strictly speaking.

Having said that, while the Demonland community dumping on Prince is getting a good run, I think, even request, posters should try and factor in the mental health issues happening here.

No he is a former player that is my point. And yes there may be mental health issues but it seems by his choice that he has played his last game of AFL. Let's all move on and hopefully without the club paying out more than is fair and reasonable for the service he has given us.

Yes, I get your point and mine was one of semantics and - insert pi symbol here -  (side splitting humour).

As far as the rest of it goes, none of what is represented as being from the Prince, strikes me as rational and is better left alone, so as you say, let's move on.

Considering his major weakness last year was his tank, Im absolutely stoked that Clarrie's running around with Cross for a few weeks. I mean, who else could you possibly want him to learn off??? I'd be surprised if it's not part of his program regardless of return condition, they're obviously working on that deficiency. I recall video from half time of a match last year were the whole team was sitting on the benches listening to Roosy, except Clarence who was pumping away on an exercise bike (while also listening).

I think he'll stamp his name on the competition this season. He'll be a household name by the end of 2017.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
