Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

It's not about a best 22 on paper, that changes every week, it's about the 22 players who can play their role the best and i am backing Trenners to be in that mix for most of the year, he was in our top 25 players for a good amount of last year which was a huge effort.

Ok I'll try again, in your opinion is he in the best 22??

Right now no, but he's not far off, and a full pre season into him, he should regain some pace and hopefully he's capable of playing a role.

not sure how any real MFC supporter could hope Trenners won't make it back the way you clearly do.

You do understand that the thread is about predictions, including less likely ones. Predicting something that would surprise people is kind of the whole point.

I would ask that you not clog up the thread with more of your insane rants against a battling player.

A win at Etihad and a win in Sydney, to start.

Hogan to crack 60.

Viney to finish top 5 in the brownlow.

Jetta to finally receive some external recognition

Hibberd to be in AA form at the halfway mark, but fade late. Hunt continue to exhillarate, albeit with inconsistencies

Vince and Jones to spend more time on flanks and the wing with Angus, Oliver and Jack taking over and playing consistently well.

The package gets rebranded to TRAC

People will remember just how good Jesse is

Gawn to a new level.

I am feeling a little worried about Gus, for those who feel he can improve - what areas do you think he would most...is it his tank?

He's a smart player - makes very good decisions. Build his tank and we'll see him get a lot more of the pill.

My only concern is more concussions.

Posters on Demonland to finally realise it is footy in 2017, and we need a minimum of at least 30 AFL standard players ready to go each week, that way we can pick the 22 in form and fully fit each week with the 'unlucky' ones continually pushing for a place

As for the Best 22, apart from a couple of backs and forwards I want see the rest capable of playing anywhere so we can continually throw different looks at opposition teams

Fast Eddie to resign at Collingwood in a bid to provde clean air over continued mismanagement.

Sacked coaches at Richmond,Collingwood,North and Fagan to not last the year at Brisbane.

Pressure on AFL to remove McLachlan as chief over integrity/asada and commercial conflicts.Channel 7 won't report negatively on him so he will stay on.

A gay AFL player will "come out"- probably firstly from a woman's AFL side .

Dogs to double up.

Demons to make a Prelim.

Collingwood laughing stock

Bombers mid table

Freo back into 8

Saints into 8

Hawks to slide

Port tread water

GWS runners up

I don't need a crystal ball to know that Lewis will be huge for us both as a play maker and a leader.

Trac and Gussy to take it to the next level. Trac to be a powerhouse burst player, Gussy to take the game on and find space to drive us into attack.

Hogan and Watts will both improve due to increased supply and Hogan from also from another pre-season.

Hunt will be like Lewis Jetta, awesome when he is on and ale to turn on the after burners but prone to going missing.

Max to get more attention but it won't matter, he'll up his pre-match latte intake and shrug them off.

I suspect Salem will struggle to get a regular game, but I hope I am wrong.

Dees to 5 on the ladder, could even be top 4 if we deal with the consistency problem.

Did you see him in 2015? He is hard in and under but he has balance to his game and is able to find space, run with the ball and kick goals. His 2016 was a washout until about 2/3 of the way through the season. Once you come off that big an interruption, particularly as a junior player, it takes a bit to get comfortable again. He is going to be a beauty, heart and soul 200+ game player.

Yes agreed! He showed enough glimpses first year and, similarly to Dom Tyson in 2015, was evidently hampered by injury and whatever other factors contribute to 2nd year blues.

At moments last year he looked Robert Harvey-esque, his reading of the play is elite and, like Petracca and Oliver, he's got guts and determination written all over him. If we didn't have Viney I reckon we'd be talking up Gus' (distant) future captaincy potential a whole lot more. Going to be vital to what should be the best push for a flag we would've had in 50 years.

Predictions for 2017

Ladder Position: 8th - I"m going to go on a limb here and say that the AFL will give us and St Kilda a dream draw later today to see us both make the 8. Which will leave only BL and GC as the clubs in the last 4 years not to play finals.

Best & Fairest: Viney - I feel he is ready to take the competition by the throat and have already penciled him in to my dreamteam side for 2017.

Runner Up: Watts - I can see that his trajectory goes up and will move from 5th to 2nd.

Leading Goal kicker: Hogan (65) will come 4th in the Coleman and will be in the AA squad.

Who Goes To The Next Level?: Billy Stretch. There were moments last year where he just looked like he was going to that 'how did he get drafted so late' player. Expecting a 3rd year breakout from him.

All-Australians: We will have 3. McDonald, Viney and Gawn.

Best Rising Star Chance/Best Young Player: Weiderman will play 18 games, poll some votes, but I cant see McLuaggage loosing it.

Surprise Round 1 Selection: I was going to say Trenners, but I dont think it will surprise that many. I think that he and H will be in our Round 1 side which will have a few people on here in shock.

Demonland's new favourite player: Joel Smith - feel that we are going to see another Hunt like breakout from this young man this year. Has everything that is needed and a good back story. Watch the fairy tale happen.

Best win: St Kilda round 1 - sets the season off in a big way.

Worst Loss: 1st week of the finals - we are up and about and we get a reality check.

Why do you hold this view?

also making an impact on the year is a very different thing to being a consistent role player in the best 22, i think Jack Trengove is very capable of being a role player for us in the best 22.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
