Or a bigger concern that not even SOS rates him enough for an invite to the reunion?

Apparently Carlton wanted him. Seems we beat them to him. Can probably thank Bryce Gibbs for Carlton being a bit busy.

VP, still can't find any evidence that Dawes career is over. So it makes my poor defence pretty good I would have thought. Or are you rumour mongering?

Chris Dawes has just been informed his time at Dees officially over. Starts 2017 as a 28yo, desperate to find a new home. Comes after today

So McKenna was taken with pick 23, which GWS got from us for Sam Frost and pick 40 (ANB) and pick 53 (O Mac).

We potentially have done very well out of the 2014 draft.

Thanks Giants!

Sorry missed the story saying his career was over.

There is a thread saying "Farewell Chris Dawes?".  It doesn't take a genius to think he is in terrible trouble.

Anyway you may think it's funny cracking the same "Chris Dawes has wooden hands and can't mark" jokes that have been floating round for 2 or 3 years but I think it's in poor taste to do so given his situation.

Each to their own.  As you say, you're not as bad as some, at least we can agree on that.  Still giving GD the benefit of the doubt?

Goodbye Chris Dawes?  Oh I see the one with a question mark. I had not seen that thread nor do I think it makes any difference.

Been in the system a couple of years

Just  finished a good season

Cost bugger all

What's not to like?

Well said. Also who knows what you are getting for a pick in the mid 50's.  For Pat McKenna we are getting all the above. Plus move home factor can potentially improve performance. Basically a less calculated risk.

can anyone honestly say they've thought of this guy in the last year? I reckon I'd win a hat in Hamish and Andy's 'name someone we havent thought of in a while' competition.

Yeah...but the majority of these players that aren't going to be "stars" weren't getting paid $600k a season.

Again the club judges what to pay players and nobody apart from Josh Mahoney, a few admin staff, the manager and player know exactly what they are being paid, most is conjecture

Haha not totally sure what you're going for there, but I like the enthusiasm. That nickname may be a bit of a mouthful.

Do you mean no one had heard of Vandenberg either?

Until he was drafted, yes.  'Knick Knack Paddy Mac, give the ball to Hoges'

When he was drafted by the giants the consensuses was it was a year too early and he should have played an overage year in TAC. He's now got a couple years under his belt in an AFL system so hopefully turns out to be a decent player. I suspect we might not see him in the 1s next year but could come on after that.

If he doesn't cut it he could probably still open the batting for Australia (our cricket team sucks!!)

I'd like him to kick like Peter McKenna....and play the guitar.

Reminds me of Jayden Hunt who was overlooked by the TAC cup and didn't do much for 2 years before bursting out in year 3. Hopefully McKenna can do the same. I'd certainly try him forward first though. Goal kickers are so hard to find these days.

I know it's only NEAFL but he has excellent skills and lays a great tackle and is a good size. Nice pickup by Mahoney and co, he is the sort of backup players required at Casey who will have to work hard to get a spot in the Seniors.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
