WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JORDAN LEWIS

Out: 48 and 66
In: Lewis,  57 and either 68 or 70

Seems reasonable to me.

We've still got plenty of delistings to come and have to give Jason Taylor something to work with. Can't lose 48 outright and not have a 2nd pick in the draft until the mid 60's when we need to get at least 3 or 4 kids in.

I'd be very comfortable with that.

I thought that Muslim martyrs were rewarded with 57 virgins. But apparently it's better than that: 72 in fact!!

Heinz used to have 57 varieties. I know they made tomato sauce, and various soups, but I suspect that 57 may have been gilding the lilly

I'm looking forward to Lewis clotheslining O'Meara at some stage next year, you know it's going to happen.

Pretty hard to do when O'Meara's sitting in the stands. ;)

Kid's a jet cruelled by injury.

I hope he gets back on the park but plays shitty games every time they play us.

This is a big picture move, we have two areas we need to improve that are far more important than pace at this stage of our development (given we have some quick outside  runners already )

we lack leadership and experience, this could go a long way to helping us beat teams like Carlton and Essendon when we're not switched on right away and take us from 10 wins to 14-15 and 10th to 5th sort of thing.

Also important is the "landing a big fish"/"destination club" factor.

Hopefully this leads to more stars wanting to come in the future.

So where does he actually fit into the 22?

Take the team below for argument's sake:

B: Frost  O Mac  Jetta
HB: Hibberd  TMac  Hunt
C: Salem  Jones  Stretch
HF: Petracca  Hogan  Watts
F: Garlett  Pedo/Weed  Kent
R: Gawn  Tyson  Viney
I: Oliver  Brayshaw  Vince  Melksham

Who goes out? Melksham's name sticks out but he's just been brought in, and it isn't to play at Casey. The rest are either mainstays or young players for whom games at senior level is now very important.

I'm in favour of getting him on the cheap as we lack leadership and experience but I'm interested in logistics of where he slots in with his attributes. Granted there will always be injuries but we had a decent injury run with our midfielders last season.

He plays before Kent, Melksham, Garlett and Stretch

Don't forget that if he does join us, he will no longer be a beneficiary the (wink, nod, nudge) Hawthorn MRP / tribunal immunity pact ?

Of those only Melksham would play in a similar role, Kent and Garlett are small forwards, while Stretch is on the wings. From the team P-Man put up, which I think will be close to our best 22, I'd say Lewis comes in and there'll be a fit for the last spot between Melksham, Oliver, Brayshaw and Salem. potentially by the end of the year Vince might be in that group as well. Good problem to have really, all those guys are very good players and will only get better. My only fear is that we'll lose a decent player in the next trade period because there not getting enough opportunities.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
