Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Whilst I'm not keen to pot Dawes, as his body hasn't let him do what his brain desires, this is definitely a good outcome going forward.

Pederson hurt his shoulder about round 15 in the afl, which coincides why he didn't play as much in the seniors in the last third of the year. I'm not sure if pedo didn't let on how bad his injury was, or if it was just decided he would play the year out before surgery. It was a shame as he had a very solid season until that point.

Can still improve, despite being closer to 30 and could be very dangerous up forward if watts and hogan take another step up next year.

The guy does everything Dawes does, but can actually take a mark and is on half the salary.
Well done to the Pedo Bear, and well done to the MFC. 16 re-signings in 12 months!

And he has only played around 60 games so his body should hold up for a while yet......

Irrespective of what people might think of their respective performances, Dawes has played 50 games for Melbourne, Pedo 45; Dawes has kicked 47 goals for Melbourne, Pedo 31.  I suspect one thing we'd all agree is that neither has set the world on fire. Hopefully, most people appreciate that both players have probably brought more to the club than raw stats and performances on gameday.

There is a definite and specific place in our starting 22 for Pedo. He starts on the bench and rotates on the ground to relieve Gawn and Hogan when they need to rest. This rotation also may include Watts or OMac if required.

He is a regular swing-man who does a lot of gut running and grunt work that does not transfer into possessions and stats. He will give you 5 brilliant games, 12 or so "played his role" games and 5 howlers each year.

Great to see him with one more year.

Good decision by the club.

But for once, I'd like to see him come back to pre-season with a lighter frame.

He definitely needs to shed some some weight and increase his running ability if he wants to give himself a chance to stay on an AFL list.

I genuinely think that if he got himself really fit, he could be more than just a 'bit' player.

I have actually spoken tp him about his size, he is at the weight the club wants him to be, they like the size he has for the roles he is asked to play

Of course that could change this pre season

Weight can be defined by both muscle and body fat.

I shouldn't have used the term 'weight', I should have said that he can lose the body fat and perhaps add more muscle to stay at a similar 'weight'. He'd increase his running ability if he did which I think he needs to do.

Hodge, Lewis, Nick Reiwoldt (of this season) and a host of others have done it whilst maintaining their strength and Pedo has always appeared to carry a bit of a winter coat.

I reckon it would have been asked of him in his exit interview, honestly.

Yep, I think you have hit the nail on the head with a lot of Peddo's value to the side.  Clear example was a play in the Hawthorn win - Peddo crashes a marking contest around CHF, Weid picks up the loose ball and delivers it deep forward - GOAL.  Peddo didn't get a stat for that effort, but had great impact on the play, literally and metaphorically.  I watched him do this sort of thing numerous times over the course of the year, including the PA win (after which I seem to recall he was shockingly dropped).  How Peddo didn't get rubbed out numerous times throughout the year also surprises me, as he made some big bone jarring hits on players walking the razor thin line of physicality in moden football.

I actually think Jesse Hogan could learn something from Peddo on the physical aspects of the game.  Jesse can make a big physical impact on contests, but I don't think I saw it anywhere near enough over the course of this year.  There may actually have been a case for dropping him to the VFL like Bulldogs did Stringer...but not sure if that would have helped his 'homesickness'.  Now that he is re-signed, I expect bigger things from Jesse.  He came to the club with Carey like comparisons, which I think are warranted, but he clearly needs to take his game to the next level to achieve that.

Pedo lays a great bump indeed. The commentators will always say "well that will get looked at," just because it's the MFC and a fringe 22 player.

If it was Hodge or Rioli then it would be "oh, what a fantastic bump! Nothing to worry about there for the Hawks."

Irritating.

Pedo is the sort of player that can sneak up on you and at the end of a game you see he's kicked 2 goals and had 15 disposals. He has the capacity to kick 30 to 35 goals a year, depending on number of games of course, but he is unobtrusive and just keeps putting in.

I have to confess, I was against getting him initially, but since he's been recruited and since he had that initial, moment, he has shown no fear when attacking the ball and sets the example for all the players. One thing, he has to learn to stay in the game for longer periods, he does go to sleep at times, that's my only criticism.

On Pedo, he was part of a chat I had with Misso, about how do they know what kind of weight or muscle mass a player needs to carry without it impacting on running ability, aerobic fitness etc , he then spent about 10 minutes explaining everything which left my brain hurting, put it this way Pedo would not be 'alllowed' to carry what would be regarded as extra weight

Every player knows what there ideal playing weight is, Oscar Mc is about 8kg shy of where they want him to be eventually

I'm sure "Misso" is a far wiser man as a result of his "chat" with you Saty!!

Actually I was the first to respond to the OP lauding ( in verse)  Pedo's signing, I realize he is not the most gifted player around but he is criminally underrated at times.

Anyway Dlanders were denied my first response insights by a mod who clearly does not appreciate fine poetry!!

I would you agree you are a definite article,  I was sorry I actually asked Misso the question in a way, bombarded with 10 minutes of scientific/fitness/phyisiological information I barely understood, but gleaned quite a bit of about the sheer amount of information the fitness and medical staff have about the players

He was pretty bad the first year he came over from North but I reckon he's been in decent nick the last few years. Certainly he could improve his running to move with the modern game but I don't think he's far off. He's got a big frame and a plodding run, I don't think that's going to change much no matter what he does.

I'd like to see him play full games in all the preseason games to make sure he's got match fitness for round 1. He often takes a while to build form as the weather gets a bit wetter and the fast starting players come back to the field.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
