They could easily get better currency elsewhere. Mind-boggling if true (although that won't preclude me from being a very happy man).

Believe nothing til 2 weeks after it's happened Mon....and even then

There;s just an incy wincy shade of foxing involved in tradeweek(s)  When the music stops who knows where the remaining chairs are and who's on them !!

side bar:    Trade week rolling along....we hear NOTHING about Melbourne until   ....OTHER clubs let cats out of bags.......How tight is that Melbourne mob !!!

I immediately think of  "The Sting "

And Dunn

The only way I can justify that deal is that they're speculating we will finish bottom 5 next year. Although with the likes of Rockliff and Lewis, that raises more questions than it answers. Perhaps Rockliff is really THAT bad of a bloke. Who knows.

Agreed   what does a contract mean again?

It means the club has control over Trading the players with another club instead of the player just walking out. This is the new world of free agency man.

That's the whole point, they can't.

Well I find that difficult to believe. But I hope you're right!

This is why:

A trade could still be on the cards, but there appears to be little interest for Rockliff among rival clubs.

Fait accompli right now. But as I always say at this time of year, things fall over.

Doesn't mean the rumours were wrong.

These bolded words should be pinned at the top of each page of threads like this every year.

Those with genuine sources can only report on discussions that are taking place, because that's all that the sources themselves can say. Sometimes they can give information, with varying degrees of accuracy (depending on the source), about the actual offer on the table at a particular time.

But they can't predict the outcome in advance. And they can't guarantee the outcome until the signatures are actually on the dotted lines.

Most of us are aware of this and are OK about it.

So to those who do have sources, please don't be put off by those posters who think that by putting you down they make themselves look less inadequate. And please don't feel that you need to argue your credibility with them. Try to ignore them, like most of us do.

You're saying this now after deducing who his Uncle is and subsequently posting it?

A little hypocritical don't you think?

I love all that WJ does woth this site, and I don't want to push the wrong buttons, but yes. I alluded to the references, WJ named them. I then tried to make a light hearted joke about it, as to be honest, my identity is hardly a secret naming it. That said, I can see why plenty of posters stop posting info. Some of the vitriol on here hasn't been ideal. Anyway what happens happens

For those who didn't hear it, this is more or less a record of the discussion between Hutchy & Pickering on the "Off the Bench" program this morning on SEN.

Really liking the fact that Lewis isn't angry (any more), but still interested. Makes him more likely to move.

The pessimist in me says that Lewis has used the situation to go back to the Hawks with a counter offer a 2 year contract for more money or he's gone.

The optimist in me says the Hawks can't and and won't offer that and he's ours.

Not sure I've seen vitriol posted 'Generation' but some have questioned your post, nothing wrong with that...also it did seem a bit strange that you all but named your sources.

Going into this draft/trade period I would have thought the club would be looking at a few things.

We could do with some experience and better foot skills coming from defence...Hibberd

We lack senior leadership, I don't think we had anyone earmarked here but then...Lewis bobbed up

We need a forward/ruck or 2nd ruck option...I think this is why we want to hold our 2nd rounder for this year, maybe a Tippett deal but I don't think he is the answer. Sydney may need to lose him. It could also be to take a pick to the draft for Darcy Cameron...

I would be surprised if there is not something in mind for that pick and it has something to do with filling the ruck, forward/ruck spot.

To those wondering who the whisperer is, it's Tony Sheahan. Accidentally replied to a message to the whisperer from his own account

This is what I've heard is floating around:

Brisbane and Melbourne have agreed on handshake that rockliff will come to Melbourne for Dunn. We will give our first rounder for next year to Brisbane (which we bank on being 9-13) for Brisbane priority pick this year (19) as well as turning our second round pick (29) into a pick in mid 30s, which Brisbane are trying to get their hands on before end of trade week.

This is also delaying the Hibberd deal.

Brisbane will pay a portion of the salary. The only things holding this deal up are Brisbane not having a mid 30s pick yet, and rockliff not having results from a medical back yet.

Melbourne in- rockliff, end of round 1 pick (19); mid 30s pick.

Out, Dunn, 2017 Rd 1 pick (9-13) 2016 Rd 2 pick) 29

OK, all this talk about the Dees is good and well, but as this is the "trade whispers" thread, thought I would add I whisper I heard from a reliable source close to the club...

Lynden Dunne and next years 2nd round pick for Tom Rockliff. Dunne deal apparently....

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
