At one stage he asked if there were any Melbourne supporters in the room ?  It was his initiative and the only club he did it for.  It's fair to say he was glowing at the prospects for the club over the next 5 years.  He said they were "fantastic" and that supporters were going to have an immense amount of joy.  He also said the players love Goodwin, that he'll be a great coach and that Roos was leaving at the "perfect" time.  As I said, he brought Melbourne up.

He doesn't manage Hogan, but nonetheless offered an opinion.  He said "Hogan will stay at the Dees".  Obviously it's just his opinion, but he was very confident in his delivery.  Obviously it's a relatively small industry and player managers and officials regularly have talks, coffees, etc.

No great revelations, but nice to hear...

This is precisely the reason Demonland hosts so many members/guests, and why many are prepared to suffer some of the tripe that gets posted here.

Rolled gold post. Nice work ProDee.

Why doesn't your brother post this stuff himself?

Probably the best place to put this...

Paul Connors attended the Old Xav's Golf Day on Monday and was the after dinner guest speaker.  My Brother attended.

He manages 88 players and was happy to have a post-talk 'question and answer' time.

He personally barracks for Richmond and said they're stuffed.  He said Deledio is on $800K and the club wants to free up cap space so would off load him if they could.  This is where the talk has come from.  At his age with his recent soft tissue injuries that's easier said than done.

He also said he thought O'Meara and Mitchell would get to the Hawks and that Hibberd would nominate Melbourne (he did the next day).

No great revelations, but nice to hear...

Good to hear.

The only thing that concerns me is that GWS will be almost untouchable by the time we're challenging and I reckon Gold Coast will bounce back pretty quickly too with the amount of picks they now possess.

But we'll have a shot.

Out of interest, are you associated with Xavs in any capacity? Football perhaps?

We are no way the third most attractive club in the league of or Victoria for the matter.

Mid say we are in the bottom four or five.

When is the last time a quality player came out and said "I want to go to Melbourne".  We convinced Mitch Clarke by offering him a stupid contract. Jeff White was another. He was a 20 year old and was the highest paid player at the club which caused lots of issues amongst the playing group at the time.

Bottom four or five is a stretch. Below us I would have Brisbane, GC, EFC, North, Richmond, Freo (get the players due to go home factor), and Port. We would be on par with Carlton, Saints, Collingwood and below the rest but rising fast, especially if we improve well again next year.

While I suspiciously haven't logged into this site since August 24 my Brother has never logged in, although he has been an almost daily reader since 2003.

He is a bit of a luddite, but I'm sure he'd manage to navigate the sign up process.

Truthfully, he has thought about joining over the past 13 years, but assures me he'd be banned in no time.

It's fair to say he doesn't have a high opinion of some posters.

Fair enough.

Sounds like he would be an interesting addition to the site though, as he supplies you with a fair amount of good info.

No mate.  Just a past student.

One of my Brothers played in Xav's first ever A grade premiership team in 1981, but he's a Hawk's supporter (due to spending 3 years on their senior list).

My only claim to fame is winning the individual (and pairs) golf day many years ago.

I've always wondered why you capitilize Brother for your brother?  My father, my sister, my mother ...

Malthouse has been quoted about managers a few times recently. Says there are some good ones but some rogues who he has no time for.

Connors to me seems one of the good ones, he has the players interest at heart but seems to understand how important the synergy with the club is.

Connors is a manager he has his own interests at heart and then the players, what he said was drovers dog stuff, nothing new

Will Langford anyone?? Plus Shoenmakers struggles to get a regular game plenty of Hawk Talent which has not seen the light of day!

I'd have them if they are free but wouldn't pay for them.

Langford's regressed quite a bit and makes bad decisions. He's really only good as a defensive forward or tagger these days.

Shoenmakers keeps getting injured and doesn't touch it up forward and isn't really a defender. I think the Hawks would like to keep him as well because if he does find fitness he could be useful at either end so I'd rather them keep him than pay the price for the risk.

Schoenmakers had a pretty bright future once upon a time. Now he is a genuine spud.

Why? Not a fan of Barlow, been struggling for consistency last couple of years

He's a quality midfielder (as shown after they stopped playing him in the wrong position this season), has plenty of experience at the pointy end of the season and his age fits into a bracket where we are sorely lacking. I'd love to have him at Melbourne.

Rode a Tiger home from Melbourne yesterday having had time to have a beer in celebration of Nathalia beating Finley in the grannie. Some things are always a joy. Walked into my rainforest this morning to have a quiet cheroot and there snoozing beneath my giant red cedar was the man yes Jason Taylor or at least a hazy apparition so I sat beside him and passed him my burning ember and he nodded with his usual good grace. Tell me JT where is it up to and where is it gonna end. Old man wolf he said its starting to hot up with Hibberd already here and two more almost snagged and then we have three youngies to get in the draft. I went to say wow but my voice was sitting on the smoke climbing through the tall branches above me. That's six we have to axe I might have mumbled or perhaps they were his words in my headspace and he was counting them on his fingers and his thumb was Dunny off to Brissy he said and his pinky was Grimesy' gone to the Cats and Garland's been courted by the Suns and then we've said goodbye to Terls Newton and Pedo and we are working with the Suns to improve this years picks by trading next years first round pick. I was choking on my smoke but mumbled who are the other 5 apart from Hibbo don't we need a forward cum ruck and a key back and an outside mid and JT just smiled and said wolfman you've been too long in the wasteland no wolf what we need is the 5 best footballers we can get it doesn't matter how big and what position they just need to be skilled goers and team players Goody will take care of the rest. And he began floating away and I croaked after his shadow and what about Hogan and I'm sure the echo was we don't care we don't care....

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
