Jarryd Lyons

Not that this is the thread, but I just read that Daniel Wells is still OOC at North and whilst he is injury prone, I'd still take him over Lyons in a heart-beat.

That's what we're after. Class, pace and skill.

Would happily give him a one-two year deal as long as he passed a medical.

When I see these names thrown up, it makes me think we're still living in the Neeld/early Roos days.

We've brought in Michie, Newton, Kennedy, Bugg as players who are role and hole fillers and still have Matt Jones, Terlich and Grimes on the list.

Vandenberg and Harmes who seem to be regular 22 players and ANB and Trengove as depth atm who are kicking it at Casey.

How many vanilla players who are all very similar in height and playing ability do we need? We don't need Lyons. He is another midfielder/half forward who again, doesn't add anything to our squad that we don't already have.

Where and why do supporters believe there's a place for him on our list? It's weird.

We need pace and foot-skills through the midfield if we're adding anyone to the mix in that area.

Cheers. I rate Harmes but I guess I see it it as anyone who would slot in above a player on the current list - even at the bottom end - as a steady overall upgrade/improvement on the list- like Michie and Newton instead of (god - my memory has purged most of them them) Clisby and Mckenzie for example. This obviously requires currency though so it's an in-out equation on balance. In that regard, I wouldn't reject Lyons outright, but I agree that we otherwise have far more pressing needs we should be focusing on.

I tend to agree, but at the same time the old adage about never having enough good players does apply a bit. And whilst his ideal position is probably half forward/on ball and he doesn't give us the goal kicker, speed or skills we really need he's flexible enough to do a bit of everything.

If we did have injuries next year he'd be the kind of quality depth that actually helps you weather the storm, compared to some of the others you've named.

Our culture and list is a lot healthier now but we are also going to cut a few older guys come delistings this year and we'll need a bit of experience coming in (Hibberd, Melksham aside) to make sure we don't slip back in to being a development team and not training and competing for spots.

It's a big finals series for him. Don't want to judge him too much on 1, 2 or 3 games but if he stands up in finals then I think he could be someone worth going harder for. I don't think Bugg and Kennedy are guys who would hold a regular spot in a top team, where Lyons has done that so far this year. If he looks like he can bring that form to finals then he'll catch my interest.

Another 20+ touches, 8 tackles and a goal tonight.  He has certainly brought that form to the finals with him.

I can't see him leaving Adelaide now that he has cemented a spot in their 22, but if he was to want out, then I'd certainly take a look at him.

Yeah he was solid. He's nothing special athletically or by foot but where he is a step above a few of our guys is he understands pressure and tackling and he is creative with his hands. Sydney's another step above North, so I'll watch again. Agree that I can't see him leaving, although Menzel and Milera are 2 AFL quality half forwards sitting on the Crows list and they need an A grade midfielder. Lyons might be one who's put up by the Crows.

North probably into everyone after their delistings.

I wonder how long it'll take for Barrett to bring out the scattergun.

He already has... for us again. Said Goodwin trying to get in any senior player with leadership qualities I.e Thompson and Dal was scattergun

When did Barrett come out with that perler?

As far as Lyons goes, maybe it's just me, but I'm not that into him.

See him as a role player along the lines of Prismall when at Geelong, Young at Hawthorn etc that come across better then they may in fact be at a different club.

I'd back us in to develop any of Vandenberg, Harmes or Neal-Bullen to be at least equal to if not better then Lyons.

In a trade week radio podcast last week. I don't think he actually knows what the word means. Said we were targetting older players with leadership, and then called it scattergun

Could mean Goodwin is creating depth with Del and Thompson while getting value out of Grimes and others In trades. It seems the club is confident it can bring in good talent given It's recent good recruiting from 3 rd picks.

Clearly doesn't understand that targeted recruiting is the opposite of scattergun, but then purple is no stranger to making himself look like an absolute tool by having no idea what he's talking about.

Jarryd Lyons has had a very good 2016. Starred against us and very good role in Crows midfield rolling into half forward kicking goals when needed. Cant believe Demons did not push harder to get him.

It could happen yet.

I thought he was a vulgar lair and then when he became King Of Clown Hall in Geelong I thought it was a good synergy.

From the trade talk feed:
Quote
Midfielder Jarryd Lyons will travel to Melbourne [the city] this week to work through his options, but his manager says he still intends to stay with Adelaide.

About six clubs, both in Victoria and other states, have contacted Lyons's management to check on his status during the NAB AFL Trade Period.

The 24-year-old has been linked to Carlton as part of discussions to send Bryce Gibbs to the Crows, but it is now unlikely he will be part of that deal.

He has been offered a contract to stay with Adelaide but was not satisfied with the club's initial offer and is exploring other opportunities.

His manager, Winston Rous, spoke to NAB AFL Trade Radio and said Adelaide was still favoured to keep the 55-game midfielder.

I like him, still wouldnt chase too hard but if that 2017 pick for Hib gets done he might be an option to look at. Can play in and outside, 15 goals from 20 games, we need some a goal kicking mids. Tyson is they only mid who seems to pop up and kick goals with any regularity.

Petracca heard you and will contribute more goals next year.

I would think so and like I said I wouldnt chase too hard but I think he would make us better and he could play a good role for us. So if the option is there I would be interested, at the very least.

Trade talk radio says 8 clubs are interested in him. I'm suprised by the interest but wouldn't be against getting him if the price is fair.

His departure would be key in bringing Gibbs to Adelaide.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
