I see what you're saying, but Burgoyne was a much faster, smoother and classier player than Hartlett, and was a leader at Port. There was an injury cloud over him at the time of the trade, lowering his value.

Hartlett would be more of a gamble. Like any trade proposition, it comes down to the cost.

So they've resigned hurley, heppell etc, and are in the race for O'meara and hartlett. Would love for them to be pinged for salary cap breaches in the next couple of years

Nooooooooooooooooooo..... Burgoyne was regarded as one of the best clearance players in the comp and a good clearance player back then despite being more inconsistant, Hartlett is very much an outside midfielder trying to play an inside role that doesn't suit him, i think Hamish is an icing on the cake type player and if Port were to pay half his wage and it wasn't a huge trade i wouldn't be against him, but he's not in the same class as Burgoyne, he needs a strong group of inside mids to feed the ball out to him and allow him to use his weapons

Exactly, but Hartlett is on about 800k a year, unless Port want to pay at least half that i wouldn't go anywhere near him.

Hartlett averages about 3.5 clearances a game so he can contribute there, but that's not what we'd get him for and it's definitely not what Hawthorn got Burgoyne for.  His clearance numbers at Hawthorn are about 3 a game.  If we're going for an available clearance mid we should be looking at Tom Mitchell.  But I don't think that's our greatest need.

And that is probably why Adelaide want to offload him. At that price he needs to be in the top 5-10 midfielders in the game.

Memories of MFC and Woewodin spring to mind.

Seriously if he is on that kind of money there has to something going on at Port which begs the question .... could it be that they have already committed to pay more to one of their stars... who knows ..... but interesting

If he is at $800k Port would clearly have to pay some of his salary to offload him now. Unfortunately we don't have the picks this year to make a deal attractive to them, regardless of what we thought of him or what his eventual salary would be with us. I smell a deal with GCS in the air, they have picks to burn.

Maybe, but Port's problem is their salary cap is overloaded.
I have a feeling they may take a bit less than what he'd normally be worth in trade, in turn for the receiving team taking on his entire salary.

I think I will trust our (current) recruiting team to do full due diligence as to why HH had a pretty poor season by his standards.  If it happens to be some internal club issue, that they feel he will most likely overcome by changing clubs, then he looks just the type and age we need.  If on the other hand he is just clapped out mentally or physically then leave him be
