POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 23

I feel sorry for Roos. It was a pathetic effort. Kicking skills the worst I have seen from us all season.

Also, bit of a wake up call that our midfield isn't that good yet and we lack real leadership.

For everyone bagging our forward line, I don't think Dunstall or Lockett would have kicked 2 between them playing in a team with that delivery and slow ball movement.

Another coaching era has passed and it's arguable if we are any better. Let's hope Goodwin knows how to coach

I feel we're in trouble with Goodwin. The players were still prone to raising the white flag under Roos, who apparently is one of the most respected coaches of recent years. Plus Goodwin has been here for many of these towel chucks and his presence doesn't seem to have changed much.

Why would you take this job tough??? Nothing anybody does seems to be able to get these guys to show any pride in the club. Watch Essendon and Carlton finish above us next year, and Collingwood do so too once they move on Buckley.

So do the players actually look Roo's in the eye when they shake his hand for the last time?

In so many ways we've improved as a side and in so many others we are still dumb and don't get the need to come to play every week. Don't play the youth card, if we're not switched on from the opening bounce it's all over.

Still some work to do for the recruiters. The lack of quality ball users is there for all to see..

Just a reminder of what we are capable of.... Our leadership really is lacking and it will be a few years before the young ones can stop these run on's

putrid way to end and I feel for roosy ... Not a Yelp or even a whimper .... Disgusting and it shows how far off a finals side we actually are. Pains me to say the saints are ahead of us in that regard.

Amongst the dross, a few positives - Brayshaw's best game for the year, Stretch wasn't the worse, and Salem showed why we need him.

We were just steamrolled, and never managed to even get close to getting going - though as above, the constant turnovers didn't help.

don't [censored] me

Fair enough, sorry, it's not your fault daisy.

I refuse to feel anything other than relaxed on this fine Saturday.

I'm just going to pretend that didn't happen.

I haven't been so embarrassed since I was in Geelong for 186. 148 was boring. 186 and today's performance in a hostile, arrogant environment are the most embarrassing experiences in footy.

Some of you who have sat in the comfort of your own home and probably turned off the TV at the end of the first can say whatever you like. You can say it doesn't matter. You can say we're young and inexperienced, but the lack of intensity, work rate and downright lack of mere effort was disgusting.

I don't think the players quite grasp what it means to be a Melbourne fan. Today, they may as well have smacked me in the face and smeared [censored] on my back.

This collective have a lot of work to earn back any respect I had for them before today. It was completely extinguished today. We paid good money to go and watch them play and they turned in that performance, without a care in the world.

The only time we lifted our intensity and tried at all was when faced with a 100 point margin and even then we failed to stop it.

The buck has to stop with the leadership group and our captain yet again.

Shameful, That's the best they could do for Roo's farewell game. Pathetic.

Yes we have improved, but we are still a miles away from that cup.

Hope they get flogged on the track by the coaches preseason.

2017 Lets see, my expectations have taken a dive.

What a disgraceful effort by our players to send of Roos with [censored] poor effort today .. They should publicly apologise to him & members & question what have they learnt from Roos in the last 3 yrs??

We really should just close this thread, forget this game and move on to 2017.

Nothing was gained from playing thr cats today apart from  reality check.

Need more leaders need more maturity.

Move on nothing to see here

I expected a 50 point loss. I expected Geelong to come out aiming for top spot. I also expected us to send off Roos.

You couldn't write a more Melbourne script.

Send off the best coach you've had for a decade, with a 100-point loss.

It's a total indictement on everything said during the week. From the media, to the players, to Roos himself, who all said the club was in a better position.

We are 2 games out of a finals spot, and lose like that.

Essendon had zero to play for, with last place stitched up, and they've smashed Carlton today.

Fair to say that if we'd played Essendon today, it would have been a 10 goal loss.

Oh and some of our supporters were almost as embarrassing as our players today, marching around with a Roosy is the Messiah banner when we were 85 points down. What a joke.

What a pathetic effort.

We have no skills and give up far too easily.

The last 2 weeks have destroyed our progress this year, we never know what Melbourne will turn up.

How do we drop Oliver but still give games to spuds like Bugg? Bugg is the new Terlich he should have no future at this club.

Very disappointing. The first, and only, real thumping we have copped all year.

MFC = Soft underbelly. Add as many contested ball winners as you like. If the ball isn't bouncing our way we roll over. It's in the fabric of this club. Over the last 2 weeks we lost any ability to talk players into coming to this club by selling them the idea that we are a changed club.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY THE MFC HAS NOT IMPROVED

Some good wins yes. But the Losses were shocking too often

3 Weeks ago we beat the reigning premier, but nobody will remember it, because we don't build from it. It is merely a shooting star that burns out to nothing.

Lost it at selection.

Clarrie Chew  Chew  would have made all the difference!

Personally I reckon Dawes would have swung it.

It's true. Nobody brings the ball to ground like Iron gloves
