Why take Harvey as a player. Take him as a part time coach of our small forwards and any other crumbing drills. Saves a place on the list whilst tapping into his knowledge and experience

Because he would be in our best 22 and has attributes that we lack.

Boomer will figure in the Roos B & F and is still one of their best players.

While on his age he should have been gone years ago, on form he deserves another season.

Very strange indeed and timing more so.

And so begins the rapid plummet of a team that had delusions of winning a flag with 30yr old top ups.

I don't normally like to laugh at the despair of others, but norf norf norf norf norf...........

Absolutely agreed Gonzo.  And also because players learn things from watching a player alongside them do it, that they can't learn as well from a coach just telling them what to do.

A bizzare comment from Scott:  “We were determined to give their players the opportunity for their friends and family and loved ones, along with the fans and supporters to farewell them in Melbourne,” he said

Sounds like he has effectively surrendered the rnd 23 game vs GWS because surely they expect WBD to beat Lions.  If Adel beat WCE and North beat GWS, North would play WBD in Melbourne for 1st Elim. Seems defeatist to me!   They could even beat the WBD in the elim final given the Bulldogs injury woes.

The timing is bizzare.  Should tell the 4 guys next Monday when they have 2 weeks to process it not 4 days before a critical game.

How many people saying we should take Boomer would think that if it stopped one of Kent, Salem, Hunt, Stretch, Braysure getting games and the experience of playing and gelling together.  Or what if it meant Garlett was out of the team.  Because to include Boomer someone has to go!

Big NO from me.  No room in our team for a selfish, whinging, diver who would deny one of our young guys valuable experience.

If it means we win more games and play finals and he is in best 22, so be it. I'd take him, he'd be 3rd in our goal kicking this year. (I know it is this year and he may fall off a cliff etc).

Exactly. North are getting rid of these guys to make way for their youngsters, so why would we take one of them when our youngsters are 100x better?

I get that Cards, but I repeat who would you leave out of our team?  Our small forwards (one of whom Harvey would most likely replace) are Garlett who has kicked 27 goals and Kent who has kicked 26.  Harvey kicked 34.

Not sure that increases our chances of playing finals next year.  I would still prefer a team with Garlett, Kent and our young guys than a team with Harvey replacing one of them.

Harvey ave 21 disposals a game vs 16 from Kent just as example. Harvey is a more skilful player with ball in hand and makes better descisions than Kento.

The way I see it if any player, if they come in for 1 or 10 years, if they improve our chance of winning then let's do it. I think we get hung up on "potential" and "upside" and still "getting games" into players. My thoughts any way.

Their careers are heading in different directions though, plus I think you're getting to "hung up" on stats.

Well Hibberd is far from a guarantee and from what I've seen of Melksham his decision making isn't a highlight.

Of course it would come down to what we get in the trade period and only as a delisted agent if the need was there after trades.

Just wish Salem had come on enough to make these discussions irrelevant.

Salem has "come on"

His illness resurfaced ffs...

It is hard to argue with that, but what if Harvey could be the difference between us making and possibly winning some finals,  and falling just short again. Plus there's going to be injuries,  and if guys in the reserves are going to be pushing harder to usurp Harvey then that bodes well for depth and competition for spots.

I hate the little rat,  but it's a big yes from me

Thought the same so did a quick search, he came from the blues on a two year contract, so unless he has recently signed for next year, doesn't seem to be the case

Maybe they think next year could be the one year of his career, where he doesn't miss a block of games due to injury, as he has done his whole career.

Strikes me as another smart "Daniel Cross" type pick up if we were able to land him.

I see absolutely no reason at all to add any of these 4 to our list.

The list is in a different place from when Roos took over 3 seasons ago. The only players we should be adding to this list are players who can help win the next premiership.

To bring Harvey in tells me we have made no ground which is clearly wrong.

Because a club only ever uses 22 players and no injuries occur right?

I would've rather had him on the weekend than Michie or Neal-Bullen. At various stages through the year we've had Matt Jones, Grimes, Michie, Mitch White, Trengove, Wagner, BK, Lumumba in the team as well as guys like JKH, Newton and Terlich on the list. Then theres Harmes, Bugg, Kent and VDB who while having time on their side arent as good as Harvey.

All I'm worried about from here on out is winning now. If Harvey is the difference between 8th and 6th or 6th and 4th you'd turn your nose up at him because it might mean Harmes or Kent get fewer games?

Would you use a spot on the list for Harvey next year or use that spot to try and find another Jayden Hunt?

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
