We want Geelong to win today don't we? Just to give the best chance of them having locked up a top 4 spot pre our game?

And some niggles to players not worth risking in final round

Has anyone looked carefully into this? I don't know who to barrack for (other than the MRP).

1 HAW 16 4 122.4 64
2 SYD 15 5 146.9 60
3 ADEL 14 5 141.2 56
4 GWS 14 6 137.6 56
5 GEEL 14 5 137.1 56
6 WCE 14 6 129.2 56
7 WB 14 6 115.3 56

It's confusing at the top right now, so many variables. I do know GWS and WB have Freo/Ess next week, so they will almost certainly reach 60pts and bump themselves into top 4 (before percentage). Adelaide are yet to play Freo this afternoon, which could rocket them into 2nd place if they have a huge win.

Lots of factors to play out here.

EDIT: Geelong have Brisbane next week, continuing the theme of top 8 teams needing big wins having the easiest opposition possible in round 22.

It would be the ultimate load of [censored] if GWS tanked r23 because their game was inconsequential, after we won our biggest game of the season v Geelong so we need them playing for top 4.

Edit: Ok that's not going to happen, Dogs and Eagles are pressing for 4 so GWS have to put their foot down on the Kangas.

Tried the ladder predictor and I'm expecting that the final round will start with 4 teams tied on 60 points, all fighting to get that final spot in the top 4.

Depending on various results, if Geelong lose today and win against Brisbane next week, they can still finish anywhere between 3rd and 7th in round 23.

If nothing else, they've been exposed multiple times this year (and by us last year) for having a soft underbelly once you get past Selwood and Dangerfield.

I'd like to see the Cats go into free fall and collapse against us.

With their form against the lower sides of the ladder, they don't deserve top 4 or even a home final. Would be terrific to send them to an away final v Eagles. We could also sneak into the 8 and play the DOGS who could finish 5th.

Last time we talked like this was under Bailey in his second season. About round 13/14. Then we promptly flubbed it with some soft losses and that was that. One of them was to Carlton.

I look forward to us hammering the Blues and then spending an entire week discussing all the beautiful possibilities of PLAYING FINALS. (Come on Sydney, do your part too.)

Haven't looked at any of the permutations but is it possible we could play Geel in the last round and again in an elim final?

Ladder predictor has the answers. My take is that Richmond winning today could be huge in ensuring the Dogs make 5th. If Geelong beat Richmond then it might push GWS down to 5th depending on how much Geel can beat Brisbane and if its more than GWS can beat Freo. Edited

Would love to play the Dogs though Etihad is an issue.

Remember what the Blues did to us late last year. That is what happens when you take a side too easily. We do that against weaker sides. We only beat GC 2 weeks ago by a point and Bombers beat them today and us early in the season. I hope all talk in the club is about Carlton only.

The Tigers are making it hard for us. They are nearly double the Cats score,   Halfway through the Third Quarter. That will make Geelong hungry to put us away in the final round so as to get a second chance.

Maybe the Cats are not that good.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
