I would have thought if Hogan is to return, Weideman would go out. He really struggled to see out quarters, let alone the game. I love what he brings, but at this time I'd be keeping in Pedersen (who I thought was just OK yesterday, but still didn't do enough. In fact, I'm amazed he was given votes in the Demonland POTY)..

Garlett is clearly struggling. It's not like he's not trying, but if he's not impacting the scoreboard he needs to bring more. For example, one tackle is not enough. I'd be happy to give him another week unless someone at Casey who could play a similar role (eg, Kennedy or ANB) needs to be rewarded for consistent performance.

In your opinion, Roos picked him again so he obviously doesn't think so, he hasn't been afraid to drop players, including Jeffy

Tough to change the team after such a huge win, but Roos has talked about how they've approached the last few weeks strategically (Bugg was rested last week specifically for the Hawks game), so I do think there might be 1 or 2 changes.

I'd go:

IN: ANB, Hogan (if fit)
OUT: Harmes, Pedersen

Pedersen was obviously good, but realistically his role is as depth so if Hogan is right to go then he comes back in.

Love Harmes' effort and intensity, but his decision making and disposal can be horrible at times. Plus, geez what more does ANB have to do to get a game?! (36 touches and a goal yesterday).

The other option possibly could be dropping Harmes and Garlett, bringing in Hogan and ANB (as a forward - see Geelong game 2015) and playing Pedersen in the backline where we might need the extra size against Port.

Garlett still is a concern. Does very little weeks on end.

Chook i would have agreed with you on occasions this year but he played a very different role to his usual this week with a fair amount of time through the mid and HFF. Think they wanted him to use his pace and get some time and space on the Hawks and also put a bit of perceived or actual pressure on their runners out wide. I reckon it worked on occasions and at one stage he hit a fabulous pass coming i50 on the run on the angle from deep in the flank at full tilt. 4 inside 50s.

There was also a 3 on 1 in the last at the top of the square where he contested against much bigger bods and managed to spoil seeing the ball hit the deck. There was no one front and square unfortunately and the Hawks ran it out fairly easily but he still committed himself against the odds.

While he was far from great i don't think he has earned a tap this week.

You don't touch a premiership worthy epic performance like that where everyone played their role and you beat the AFL's best by nearly 5 goals (unless there's a forced injury).

NO CHANGE! Lets go for 3 in a row boys and keep the Roosy's big send off "end of season (ALOHA) bash" going!!!:roos:

Hogan for Pederson is the logical and obvious one.

No way JKH comes in after 1 game at senior VFL level in 15 weeks. The selectors have said time and time again that players need to build up match fitness and form over a number of weeks in the VFL this year, he will be no exception (see also Salem)

I believe that we need to manage Weeds and Pedo so that they remain eligible to play finals for Casey. I think it would be important for them to play in a finals series and it would get a couple more hard games into, not just Weeds' body but also into a couple of the other young/recovering bodies.

Anyone who thinks Pedo will get dropped is high.

He is so much more versatile than Dawes, helps in the ruck, gives Watts more of a chance to play up forward/down back when needed, can take a mark and kick a goal. Structurally we are a lot better with him in the side.

We can't make changes to the team. I know Hogan might be fit, but honestly giving him an extra week off and saving him the flight to Adelaide can't hurt.

We just beat Hawthorn, everyone deserves to go again next week.

No changes.

I know I sound like a broken record, but Harmes will not be dropped - the current MFC coaching staff do not drop players for poor disposal when they're otherwise doing their required work. They love Harmes.

I think  the company line is the www.melbournefc.com.au

however as you say Bbo if you want a discussion on our club and team you come here.

If there was only the MFC site I would have tossed in the towel on the MFC in 2012.

May the Good Ship Demonland sail on for many years to come with all the diverse opinion on show.

Its clear by now he doesn't get it.

Back on topic, I have watched the replay and I wouldn't drop Garlett.  He played up he ground and his touches were creative. Cant even remember him being in the forward 50 all that much.

I reckon Pedersen will go for Hogan. It's definitely not fair, but neither is life.

The two are different players, just like Dawes and Hogan play together, so can Pedersen and Hogan.

And Weid, and Watts? It becomes a very tall forward line.

Either way, someone needs to go for Hogan. Pedersen is just the most logical. I think it is very unlikely that they will rest Hogan again.

Who knows what or who we will see this week.........I thought Roos had brought in Bugg to tag Mitchell and he went nowhere near him, Hawthorn probably thought the same thing, and we had Garlett starting on the wing.

When you speak to Pedo, he is the ultimate team man, and very popular with his team mates as you can see from the reaction when he kicked his goal, he will accept whatever decision is made on the chin

But Pedo shouldn't be dropped

Hogan should be treated like everyone else in the club and need to earn his spot

form hasn't been great love to see

Him play CHB

but won't happen

He won't be dropped as such, but he will need to make way for Hogan if he's fit.  Let's not kid ourselves here - if Hogan is fit, then he plays.  I doubt they drop Weideman after just one game and, as he was last in, Pedersen will be first out.  He doesn't deserve to be dropped, but it will happen regardless of Hogan is right to go.

That's the first time I've ever heard a key forward on 39 goals ever be accused of not earning his spot.

They dropped Bugg, they dropped Matt Jones, they dropped Grimes. Doubt any of those guys were dropped for not playing their role without the ball.

I thought Harmes was a necessity against the Hawks due to his speed and competitive nature and a few bad turnovers aside he did some very good things.

But the turnovers are becoming a recurrent problem so I think they'll have to consider someone else - most likely Wagner, White or Michie. Given Port are a quick side and those 3 aren't as quick as Harmes he might stay for another week.

I find it bemusing.  We've got a once in a generation forward who is barely 21.  He kicked 40 odd goals last year and will do the same again this year.  How many kids his age have the capacity to kick 7 in a game?  The list would be a small one.

Yet because we played one great game, and he has been down on his form a little of late, people actually don't want to bring him back into the side.  Because we've won 2 games without him it's almost as if it means we don't need him at all.  Madness.  All it confirms is that we have some serious talent and, when we work out how to use it more efficiently going forward with Hogan IN the side then we will be tough to stop.

If he is fit, he plays.  He won't be in the VFL.  Pedersen makes way for him and if anyone else, in this instance, thinks otherwise then they're having a laugh.

They should. I hate seeing Harmes & Matt Jones miss a target 30 m on their own. I'd like a team of guys who are all good kicks it's AFL after all.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
