On South Australians, I thought Graham Molloy was a very good player but we really didn't get the best out of him. 

Then there was John Tilbrook who was an absolute champion but only in his first game and one against Geelong when he kicked 6 goals. His other 51 games were very Toumpasesque. 

Incidentally, we really never got the most value from croweaters whose initials are "JT", have we?

Arrh yes "Diamond Jim" as Lou Richards crowned him. I think we picked him on the back of one finals performance in SA where he kicked a big bag of goals.

We payed him a shitload.

He was built like Superman but sadly, as noted above gave us buggar all. He was apparently a good bloke who loved the club and did a lot with the past players association.

Hawthorn got smashed by GWS earlier in the year, did they turn up that week?

It's a fine line between playing well and playing poorly. It's why players try to keep their routine the same as possible before matches, because if you're even slightly off in your prep it can dramatically affect the result.

Saying players should always "come to play" is a bit like saying nobody should ever have a car accident. Well yeah, but sometimes things can just be a bit off, be it your judgement, your concentration, or your mindset. For footy players, they might be feeling slightly flat physically for no apparent. There's a million tiny things that can all affect performance, which all are summarised by "didn't come to play". It's not as if the players do it on purpose.

Brian Lake interestingly said for away games, the hawks had pre-planned meal and meal sizes as the tendency in hotels is to eat too much at the Buffet! They're obviously a club that tries to eliminate all variables
