Correct.  Roos said he is being rested entirely:  '...Dawesy definitely [needs a rest] with a six-day break, with his body the way it is at the moment...He came in, after having a weekend off and played really well the first game, but we’ve got to be mindful of that'.

Not good if he needs a week or two rest every few weeks.  If his body can't handle it that alone may force him to retire as it won't get any easier to front up every week as he gets older - 29 next year, not old but physical issues not good for a big guy.

I don't recall his body ever being right with us, with the exception of maybe 2013. He was pretty good last week though, after he kicked that goal he was finally marking and leading like a competent forward.

Kent, in game 50, will be our 'median' most experienced player.  Half the side under 50 games and 9 players under 30 games.  This is seriously a side of babies we are fielding here.  I don't give us much chance, but if we do win it will be absolutely bloody huge.  I know there's a chance we're going to be annihilated, but I don't care.  So excited.

This will probably be his dominant  4 goal game that comes after two crap ones

Our mostly stagnant ball movement in the last two games does Garlett no favours whatsoever, he creates space which is then blocked up when we have slow entries into the 50, he is at his best when we get it to him out in the open or crumbing off decent entries into the tall forwards

The great thing about this is that we're on 8 wins with good percentage.  When GCSuns and GWS were fielding teams this young and with such little experience they were right down the bottom of the table with just a couple of wins for the year.

If this development continues and we're in for some exciting times in the coming seasons

The way to beat the Hawks is with high pressure football. Thy have a heavy reliance on kicking and the more pressure that the kicker gets the more chance of a turnover.

both the dogs and saints are very good in this area and have pushed the Hawks.

Dees are capable of bringing this on Saturday but which Melbourne turns up will be the real question.

Can you imagine a pressure turn over in our def 50 by Nev, ball spills out to Hunt who tears away down the back flank and delivers a pun point pass to Hoges. Hoges turns and fired a laser to the Weid on the lead... Calmly strolls backs and goes bang!!!

What is the origin of the Clarry Choo Choo nickname?

To answer this involves picket fence ----  and no sane person wants to involve ( or have anything to do with) picket

Doesn't bode well for Dawe's future at the club!

Rested. Regardless of how he plays, it seems pretty clear that his body is fairly shot, and just getting up each week is touch and go.

"Dawesy definitely [needs a rest] with a six-day break, with his body the way it is at the moment,”

“He came in, after having a weekend off and played really well the first game, but we’ve got to be mindful of that. There are some tough games coming up and we’re going to need all of our players playing well."

Sounds like something to do with an orgy, as usual with footballers.

Well anyway, i'll start my own nickname then. I'm pretty happy this week that 'Please sir I want some more' has been selected

A few interesting stats for this game:

Average Games = 64
Average Age = 23y 98d

11 players under 40 games
15 players 23 years old and under

Bodes well for the future...(hopefully)

Dawes rested as I note he isn't selected to play at Casey and also noted that Spencer isn't selected either. Stay did you notice Pencil not training?? Not a lot of ruck men around the club

I've been around for a few years, however, I can never be bothered to post. I rather just read what's happening and leave. So if you knew a poster by that name, I guess it must be someone else. Not sure if that's good or bad :)

That's a very, very good side.  In 2 years time.

Reckon we'll give it a real shake on Saturday.

Agree Wise, it's the best looking side we've had for a while. Won't get immediate results (well you never know), but the more they player together as a unit, the quicker the team will gel and improve.

Have we finally left base camp and are we headed for the summit?

I had honestly forgotten about Newton until I saw him in the Casey game last week. As I said in that thread, he is the type of player that we need (outside player with decent skills), just need him to put it all together.

Those numbers seem fine for the role played. Viv mopped up across half back. If he played on ball he would've had 15 contested touches, he's as good as any VFL midfielder at that role. Newton's pretty solid at the contest as well, and would've played wing and half back as well. I watched a bit of the replay at Coburg did ok at contested footy, they have a few solid body VFL types. It was the weight of numbers and overwhelming possessions that really undid them.

I agree with the points underlined above.  However,  Mitchie is an absolute spud at AFL level.  How Mitchie seems to get games ahead of Grimes astounds me.

Newton could be worth preserving with.  At AFL level he positions himself in good positions, finishes well and  has a good knack of bobbing up and kicking valuable goals (somethings we could have done with in the last couple of games).

Though they don't always provide the complete picture, Champion Data points are a reasonable gauge of a players value in a game - they certainly tell a true story for the above players as far as I'm concerned.

Recruited before Roos signed on.

Roos was signed in September 2013 and I'm pretty sure we traded Michie in during October 2013.

So wouldn't that make Michie a 'Paul Roos' recruit?

dee-luded is a very odd cat!  Not sure you want to get to know him too well:o

Currently in the slammer - has now been there for at least 4 months...don't know when Nasher will let him out.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
