Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how they do contracts. Josh Mahoney yells from his office, "First in, best dressed fellas - get em' while they're hot".

What they might have been planning, given they really wanted to keep Hogan, was to keep bucketloads of cap room for him to sign up, then work out what's left. Or, they could decide that the risk of losing some of the players they are holding off on is bigger than the risk of not having enough left in the cap to pay Hogan what he demands, should he eventually decide to stay.

Not that difficult to comprehend, especially given that earlier in the year they were in discussions with Hogan, and now they're not.

I definitely understood what you were saying. What you were saying was silly. So I made fun of of it. ?

That makes no sense at all as a strategy. None. hypothetically lets say they did what you suggest and waited on Kent and other players coming out contract in order to maximise the chances of retaining Hogan. What happens if the strategy fails and in addtion to losing Hogan, other like Kent also leave because they get the club has shown no faith or loyalty to them. Glad you don't have Josh's job.

Not what I said. Read it again.

I'm thrilled with this.  We're announcing the contracts regularly as more dominoes fall.  Dean is a ripping little player and adds a real point of difference to the other small forwards with his powerful build.  I really hope the selectors for the WA U18 squad are feeling like idiots right now.

We have players signing contracts quicker than Lleyton Hewitt drops sets, this is fantastic news!
Next up, T-Mac, Watts, Hogan.

After those 3 sign (And I am 99% sure all 3 will...Seriously, who would be silly enough to leave the club now?) We are will quickly become a club that free agents will be looking at come years end.
Guys like Melksham waiting, Hurley and Hibberds name being thrown around like a McEnroe tennis raquet.
We are well and truly on our way guys, *choo choo*, here comes the Melbourne demons train to finish the season like a damn steam train.

Not to mention blokes like Hulett and Weidman, Wagner, HUNT who are getting me more excited than a blind lesbian at a fish market.

Get around eachother boys, the demons are here to stay, and our reserved spot in the 8 for the next decade is quickly being cleaned up and prepped for our arrival.

Love the agro and effort. On the improve. Was a big fan since the initial signing and he is starting to repay the faith. Go Kenty!

I'm a big fan.

He seems to be (slowly) eradicating the periods of laziness from his game and the result, with his hard-running and hard-working ethic, is that he is getting far more involved, utilising his speed more, and becoming a really important player for us.

Missed out on 26 "likes" there DJ.

You really have to get up early to beat Stuie to a populist concern!!

Kent's kicking is underrated. I wouldn't have him kicking for goal for my life, but his ability to pass the ball 55m+ metres is a skill very few AFL players have.

Actually his kick for goal has really improved this year, or at least in recent times I think it's been pretty reliable. Really happy we've got him signed, interesting that it's only a two year contract. Maybe he's backing himself in to have a really good two years and go for some big bucks with us next contract.

In any case, the more WA boys we sign the better!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
