He would be a good fit, but only if he is committed to us and not for a first round pick.

We still have Salem to come back, and Melksham to add.

Look elsewhere Dees

Who really cares we are on our way as a club and a destination

I really dont want any Essendon Players

Breed and develop our own. Surely there are also good players available from time to time for other clubs like GWS and the Suns

I would like Hibberd, but let's not waste our time convincing him if he's leaning towards staying. There are other players on the market that we can peruse. We should be effectively active again this year.

I like to think that players from other clubs give us, if they be the right choices, ala Bernie Vince and Dom Tyson,an insight into how other teams players perform, and do not, under pressure. The same, of course can be said about coaches. That being said i am quite conciliatory about  Hibberd, and if it happens Hurley. But they would know their future directions better than i would.

Maybe. I don't think we're lacking options that provide what he can. Maybe not in the one package.
It just depends on what we'd have to give up.

I don't buy the rumours peddled by Barrett though.

Would it be absurd to trade Melksham for Hibberd or just impossible because of contracts?

I think you can work that out yourself John..

What does it say about his family, if they are pushing him to stay with the club that injected him with illegal performance enhancing drugs?

What rumours? That he was heard to be seen in the Essendon rooms after the game on the w/e? Or that he wants out?

Any of it.
He may have been in the rooms (although I doubt it, because my understanding is that his ban wouldn't allow it) but it still doesn't mean anything.
These players are his mates, who he has a strong bond with, and plans for defection won't change that.

If he's not allowed to train with the club, i certainly can't see how he'd be allowed in the rooms lol surprised Essendon would want Barrett anywhere near them after the string of articles he put out over the last 2 years potting them at every opportunity.

So what if his parents are close to Essendon? Who on earth makes decisions about their career based on the wishes of their parents? It's certainly had no bearing on Prestia's decision to set up a retirement fund at Richmond.

And if Hibberd can't even make these decisions like a grown adult, maybe we should steer clear and let him to remain with all his convicted drug-cheating buddies at that pathetic excuse for a football club. I can't even comprehend how any logical-thinking, intelligent person could not hold complete and utter disdain for their employer if they were responsible for treating me like a human guinea pig in a performance-enhancing drugs program.

So I say, unless you're 110% committed to becoming a Demon and helping fulfil our premiership aspirations, stay the hell away from our club so we don't waste our valuable draft currency on you.

I'd think the disdain would be reserved for those specific people responsible, not the club itself. As those people are gone, I'm not sure any of the players would share your animosity towards the bombers.

Club doctor is still there, they did everything they could to look after Hird, any player with half a brain would be furious with the club still.

Who is "they"? Paul Little is gone.

The club doctor tried to stop it but was shut down.

These players loved that club, and more than anyone else, would mentally make the distinction between "the club" and "those individuals that did us wrong"

Leaving the club would be moreso an effort to in some way distance themselves from the whole saga in the long term.

more likely he tweeted the players while they were in the rooms and typical journo has taken poetic licence

Some strange posts on this thread in the last page or so. I mean Hibberd hasn't even signed on with us and he is getting potted for not being fully committed. Jeez louise.

And knocking his parents for encouraging him to stay? Please.

I for one hope we get him as i think he will slot in very nicely on the half back line.

Heard the same from some inner sanctum Essendon mates.  5 year deal apparently.

That will make Hibberd a bit easier to get if we want him and he wants to come to us.  Hurley will have used up more salary cap on his new deal, along with the other banned players who have returned.

I actually think if Hurley has re signed, Hibbert might as well.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
