GAME DAY - Round 12

I remember a Herald Sun headline after a QB clash many, many years ago.  Melbourne had defeated the 'colliwobbles' (as they were known back then) and the header the next day read "From Magpies to Feather Dusters".  I'd like to see that header repeated tomorrow please.

Yep.  Or...

"Dees feast on pie -- MAGpie...!"

I think they'd be disappointed with a crowd any less of 70,000 today

Would help if both clubs were coming off nice wins

i was keen on driving down to the game but heard on the radio its sold out ?

Well its a beautiful sunny day outside. Cant wait for the game. Hopefully this time we can handle going into the game as favourites. I took an annual leave day form work to go to this game. So they better not let me down.

But cant wait to see the big freeze slide, last year it was pretty funny so hoping for some more laughs. But more important a dee's win would be awesome and a good win at that.

Hopefully Maxy can dominate the ruck and our midfield gets on top and vince annoys the hell out of pendles.

At work in Beijing. Might be a good time to introduce Chinese students to the beauty of Australian Rules football. Could be an opportunity for cultural learning as well as some intensive study of the Australian vernacular. Mmmm, maybe not.

Great Emma Quayle article on the development of Jack W.http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-2016-collingwoods-view-of-the-day-melbourne-debutant-jack-watts-was-monstered-by-magpies-20160609-gpfrjc.html

One of the more interesting reflections on Jack's debut game is from Russell Robertson: "It was up to the boys that day to make sure he was protected, and look after him, and assimilate him into the team. And I'm not sure we looked after him very well." Can't help but think Jack's debut would have been different if Neitz was still there.

But that is history and Jack has come a long way.  Again to quote Robbo:  "Some weeks it's almost like, God, he's so good to watch," he said. "He does all the little things that make you think, I'm glad I got to come along today and watch Jack play...There's the little hangers he takes; he turns blokes inside out; his kicking has been brilliant; he kicks nice goals; he's always thinking those two or three seconds ahead of the game...He's a beautiful player to watch when he's flourishing, and the boys are getting the ball to him so much more now. They're saying: 'There you go Jack, do your thing', and it's a really nice thing to see."

Hope Jack is BOG today!

Also hope we win so our DL  'Nasher' can he see his first live Demons victory!

I like Maxwell's assessment. Jack Watts won a contested possession within his first 20 seconds on the ground.

The next one was three years later... (just kidding...) But its a different perspective for sure,..

It's been reported in the papers over the last 24 hours - Herald Sun had it on their back page this morning.

I'm in the outer today.

I'm hoping the scum can take losing like gentlemen.

I will be wearing tweed (with the elbow patches).

I hope today we play a coach killer.

(Not ours)

Big freeze should be great. Got my beanie on and so glad its them and not me. It is sitting at a cold 10C at the moment with a 26km gusty wind. Just come back from walking the dogs and it feels like about 4C. Getting my thermals out then off to the G.

Just noticed that Neale Daniher has received the MEMBER (AM) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA in the Queen Birthday honours

Mr Neale Francis Daniher VIC.: For significant service to community health through support for people with Motor Neurone Disease and their families, and to Australian rules football.

Highly, highly deserved.  A great honour for a very honourable man.

Would be great for the Dees to top it off with a win...I heard him say (with some humour) that last year's pep talk to the players didn't help them win but hopes his talk to them this year spurs them to victory.

I'm pumped. It's Monday, and I'm about to watch Game of Thrones.

From experience?

My credit cards would not get him or me drunk...

If Melbourne beats the Filth today he'll run amuck in Beijing this evening. You'll hear of his wereabouts from the shameful press coverage and you might be called to bail him out, perhaps hear his confession Reverend.

Flying from Bangkok to  Siem Reap Cambodia this afternoon

may get some scores at the airport before lift off

Bad planning. Should have left yesterday...

Sun is shining, lovely winters day. Froze my arse off when I got off the plane though, wtf Melbourne? Hobart airport was 6 degrees warmer, I thought Tassie was meant to be the cold place.

Meeting anyone from Demonland?

Not that I would encourage it.

Public Transport in Melbs is a disgrace.

Been using the Skytrain in Bangkok. Brilliant

Melbourne is just choking and clogging up

No Politician will commit to anything.

Doubt we'll get more than 60-63k. Collingwood fans wont show.

They've fallen off faster than I thought was possible for Collingflog fans. 28k against Port last week. Well down. I predict 50k-55k.

For once it won't be because Melbourne fans haven't shown up.

This is a topsy turvy season and, with a number of teams, you don't have any idea as to what's coming out at the start of the day.

I go back a few weeks ago when I saw the quarter time score in the Collingwood v Geelong game and I thought WTF.

On Saturday night Geelong made a meal out of North Melbourne.

Carlton beat both Collingwood and Geelong.

Confused?

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
