Swung by for a little bit around 11am. No Lumumba, Viney, Brayshaw, Mitch King, Salem.

Lots of small group drills working on different craft things - goal kicking, snaps, marks, picking the ball up etc.

Garland was running laps and working with one of the fitness staff obviously in non contact work. Wagner was doing laps and then some run throughs.

They moved in to a full ground drill with the blue training jumper team v the green vests, with presumably the starting players in the blue than the green. From memory the blues were:

Backs: Frost, O Mc, T Mc, Hunt, Jetta
Mids: Gawn, Vince, Jones, Trengove, Tyson, Stretch, Bugg
Fwds: Dawes, Watts, Harmes, Kent, Oliver, Petracca, Garlett

Hogan sat that drill out and did some kick and mark stuff with Crossy.

After that they announced Trengove was back in to a big cheer. Then it was out in to more small drills.

Clarry and Vince got in a heated push and shove, with Matt Jones stepping in between them. I think it was all fun and games and all good after but Clarry was angry about something. He was training with heavily padded compression shorts on.

Hogan's set shot routine is a lot straighter, but it still looks very forced and he slows down dramatically after his sideways steps. I actually think he had a better routine last year where he got the stutters out early then finished with some good momentum in to the ball. A work in progress. I really think the fitness staff (or a privately hired coach) need to sort out his running bio-mechanics as soon as possible as well.

So Trenners is in. Dawes seems likely to be in - he did some ruck practise with the rucks as well. Frost could replace Garland.

The boys were in good spirits throughout, lots of laughing and joking especially when a lot of them lined up to take hangers on the bag.

I see Dunn wasn't named in the backs but Frost was.. Should we be taking any serious notice of that DS??

You've really got to hand it to our coaching staff for coming up with such new, bold and inventive strategies.

They should throw Hogan and Dawes back there as well.

Was JKH in full training?  I find him an intriguing player and am interested to see what the wizard Brendan McCartney can make of him

Pls tell Mr Vince, kid gloves only on our future champ!

Dunn was in the non starters team. I guess we'll find out soon if that was deliberate or not.

Where do people think Mitch White stands? Obviously Wagner has been preferred so far this year, but is he close? On the outer? Born under a wanderin' star?

At least they realised it wasn't working and changed it.  No one is perfect.

Hopefully less controversial than the Pentagon Papers.......only folk old enough to remember regular MFC flags may have even heard of these.

His form in the VFL has been very good.  They have him in the best most weeks.  I would say that he's probably next in line if a spot opens up, but because he's a rookie they may not be able to upgrade him until half way through the season or unless we have another LTI.

I just hope it doesn't continue as more of a Bermuda triangle type deal and we don't need to constantly listen to flogs telling us 'they're out here'

I think it's more abandoning the Diamond for a lone operative. Everyone else to charge into the fray while Dunn lurks in the shadows smoking cigarettes.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Thankfully, the offseason has recharged me, and I’m back—ready t
