I would not read too much into this.  Josh is simply keeping the club honest in the early stages of negotiation. Hogan has said he wishes to re-sign, but no deal has yet been struck as such maintaining a market is what any good manager would do.  This is standard.

Yup, Hogan signing will be significant, the club will want to milk it for as much as it's worth, these sort of signings can often happen a long time before anyone hears about them, they just wait for the right moment to announce it.

For me the most significant quote from Jesse is:   “The factors are probably where the club is heading, that’s the main one,” Hogan said

Well I hope he was watching very closely the Hawks game for several reasons.

- Yes it seems we can play some great footy and are definitely on the rise: it is a matter of developing consistency within and between games.

- It was a genuine team effort, with mids in particular seeing multiple options up forward, not just the superstar.

- He could have had a good look at Weideman's set shot routine.

I think the face palm is around trading (when not needing to) for someone who is a free agent..... Or I'm completely missing something

Hogan is what? I've seen nothing to suggest he will become a great player let alone a good one. Can't understand the fascination with his future. Sure he won the rising star...so did Jarred Rivers...a handy player no doubt, but a star? There are players already on our list that have had fewer opportunities but done more...Seems to be a passionate mindset that he will bring good fortune which seems difficult to equate with his achievements notwithstanding his perceived "upside"? What is seen that I can't see in him? Would happily be wrong in the most fundamental way...yet is he worth the zillions some are prepared to pay and what might we get for him in return? A forward that cannot mark in a contest and is innacurate in front more often than is comfortable, a self centric player with more than his share of conceit.

Mate, KPPs generally take years to develop into quality players. Compare what Jesse is doing now with what Gawn and Watts were doing at the same stage in their careers.

Will be a genuine star of the comp, and that's why no dees fan should be happy to see him leave.

Hopefully he's staying

what's the confusion Rjay? simply saying not all announcements happen right away, the bigger ones can be timed to get the best response.

More to do with the post you are quoting 'Abe'...

Our man with the inside info seems confused with Josh Mahoney's role & Hogans managers role.

I pretty much stopped reading after this. Whilst I respect your opinion not to crystal ball about Hogans future I could not disagree with you more about seeing nothing to suggest that he will become a "good player" as by any standards he has already passed that mark. He is currently 11th on the goal kicking list. Ranked 10th in the league for  marks  and contested marks (av per game). You don't think that qualifies him as a "good player" ?

Caroline Wilson on Footy Classified tonight said she is starting to think Hogan is more likely to go than stay now and that the club is getting a bit frustrated. Might be an interesting off season.

Heard that - no evidence to back it up, just her thinking, which is about on par with the hand wringers of Demonland.

Wise, you are painting yourself as one of the grinning, glass half full, "everything is great" bunch.

Maybe you should meet the others somewhere in the middle hey?

What's wrong with that?  I've always been in the glass half full area, although I know that everything is not great.  If it was great we would be playing finals.  The year has been good, not great.

I just don't like journo's who drop an opinion with nothing to back it up.  It serves no purpose.

Caro is not going to print that story while  including the name of her source. She has a fair track record, and that is cause for me to be concerned.

Of course I hope she is wrong, but she has many more inside sources than I do.

Not sure that's what she said. She said she believes he changes his mind a lot. She also said officials were unsure what he's going to do and neither is she.

But if I missed that part she said she thinks he's more likely to go then fair enough.

David Schwarz was spot on with regarding his kicking.

Big summer coming up for Jesse.

Very true.  He needs to fix it, although his confidence is shot as well, which doesn't help.  If we want him to be the superstar forward we all know he can be, then he needs to address this over the summer.

She is not printing any story.  It was just her opinion of FC.

Hogan has the tools to be a superstar. Anyone who denies that has zero footy i.q

We just need to sort his head out.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
