The only people making any suggestions that he's going back to Perth are.... from Perth.  Of course they'll take that narrative, it sells.

Still no doubt in my mind he'll stay.

Think you're right Wiseblood. The bigger narrative surely is being 'the main man' who lifts a mighty club out of the doldrums and back to greatness.

Yep, even more so when Freo are 0-7 and going absolutely nowhere.  They need a story and something to look forward to that can take some of the focus off how bad they are playing - and that man is Hogan.  He fits all the credentials and they'll ram it down their throats over in Perth as often as they can.  We just need to ignore that and allow things to play out.  Every man and his dog can see the positive direction the club is heading it, and that fact won't be lost on Jesse.  I've got faith.

Good luck being full forward when Lyon reverts back to the 6 goals wins philosophy.

Exactly.

There is a reason so many key forwards have knocked them back over the years - they aren't really an attractive club to play for.  If you take the Perth factor out, why would a key forward want to go there?  Cloke, Riewoldt and others have knocked back huge offers to get there.  It's hardly surprising.

I know the Perth factor is different here, and I get that, but outside of that I can't see anything Freo has that we don't trump quite easily at the moment.

I wouldn't worry too much about Jesse heading over to Perth this week. I'm very proud of the way the club is handling him.

He will stay but god I love all the drama. The footy media are in heaven, creaming themselves over nothing.  I bet Jesse is having a good old laugh about it too. I think he will extend his contract mid season.

Wasn't the Ox 98% sure about Scully?

Clark is a journalist, the Ox as much as I love him is more of a personality.

I refuse to panic about this.  Jesse is an immense talent and will almost certainly be a star of the competition at some stage, but his loss would not break this team.  We have Weideman developing nicely.  He, Watts and Pedersen/Frost could still hold down the forward line comfortably.  Plus any trade for Hogan would involve more high picks coming int to the club with which to draft or trade for another key forward.  It could slow our development a bit, but we'd survive.

That being said, I don't believe he's going anywhere.  So many of our players have said the same thing recently.  They've put in the work, they can see where the tem is going and they want to be there for the payoff.  He's in the same boat.  While living near his parents is probably a strong pull for him at his age, he's dedicated himself to a career as a professional AFL player.  He's spent years working towards that goal and he's far more likely to see success with us than Fremantle the way things are looking right now.

The thing about all of this that really annoys me is there doesn't appear to be a massive amount of focus on how bad they're going. It's almost as if this was expected at some point. Sure, it definitely was expected, but not until players like Pav and Sandi had pulled the pin. The Freo window was well and truly open, right up until the first bounce for 2016. The fact that the club and coach appear to be under no real pressure to perform, and are in fact resting club champions is astonishing. How was the Rev going the year he was sacked? It wasn't 0-7.

P.S. I'm working on a crossword at the moment and need some help. What's a 6 letter word that starts with "T" for a type of boat that carries liquid/gas, and can be seen loading/unloading at the Freo docks?

Which genius decided to make a second thread about the same thing. Can we merge these?

Funny you should mention that.  You'd almost think they were looking to get something at the end of the year they could offer up for a really good player.  Of course, it wouldn't be enough on it's own, they'd need to throw in a player too.  Don't they have a Victorian Mid floating around who's out of contract as well?  :P

I reckon it's pretty obvious, but because it's against the rules nobody is calling it. The fact the Freo board has not concerned itself tells me all I need to know.

I feel much more confident about keeping Hogan than I did about Scully/Frawley/Howe. The team is very obviously in a better place than it was when they were all out of contract (which Hogan isn't for another year), the team that is courting him is in the shitter, and HOW GOOD IS MELBOURNE'S COFFEE???

It's about the money. $cully didn't leave to go to a highly successful team either. If hogan is offered a buddy Franklin deal to go home to mummy why wouldn't he leave?

The bloke who went to GWS, got about 3 times the yearly salary we would have contemplated for him and a 6 year contract. That is nowhere near the difference it could be here, if money was the sole factor. Also at that time the whole club was crap. Now we are a far better club and team. That bloke seemed a bit aloof from his team mates, JH is one of the boys and has some great friends in the team.

There is also the little fact of an 8 hour return flight every second week for a bloke who has lost a year already with back issue.

As someone said above we also have great coffee.
