Maybe a little too hasty in closing the 'we're in the 8 thread.

If Dogs keep this up, we will leap the Crows on % and be in the 8!

Crows will fight back :)

When we did it to the Swannies in 2010, I was jumping through hoops cos I knew that we had just outclassed a team heading for September. Roosy said it himself at the presser after the game 'Not much you can do against team in that kind of touch. Just buckle your seat belt and hope for the best.'
Clearly, a lot of the Suns problems are between the ears. A bit like we were.

True, but I think this team is closer to handing out thrashings than receiving them.

Bugger it, we've all suffered 10 years of trauma - idgaf who it is....I'll dance on their sorry carcass.

Best game for the season from Jones. Massive.

Petracca could be anything. He is so explosive and clean below his feet.

Oliver is potentially even cleaner and so rarely makes errors. Pity lactic acid got to him on that shot from 50.

I've previously said Jetta is a solid player, but realistically he's become more than that. He is brilliant. Very, very rarely makes errors, usually beats his man and is now beginning to provide some nice offensive run off half back. Lovely game.

After an ordinary first half, Viney was superb in the second half. I hope that injury is nothing too serious.

Gawn's tap work was sublime, particularly from stoppages inside or near our forward 50.

Hunt's best game for the club. Provided great run. He's a surprisingly good mark for his size too. Makes pretty good decisions and will only get better with time.

Bugg's best game for the club too. If he can play more games like that I may be eating some humble pie - that is, he'll be more than just a fringe player. Terrifically efficient game.

Overall though, our midfield started working a whole lot harder in the second half and when we do that, we so often put it on the scoreboard nowadays. Still question marks over Garland and despite some poor kicking at times, we weren't exposed too badly in the end. That is intrinsically linked to the work rate of the midfield though. We'll have to be a lot more efficient next week if we're going to take it up to the Bulldogs, but it's fantastic that we put the foot on the throat of a team that was down and out - pity we let them get some cheapies at the end. But from an offensive point of view, we do kick goals in a hurry, which is really exciting.

That midfield of ours. Viney, Tyson, Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw, Jones, Vince, add Prestia and if we get everything else right, that's a top 4 midfield in 12-18 months time.

The fact I can forget to put Brayshaw in that list is exciting indeed and indicative of our midfield depth.

First half we farted around with too many handballs then bombed it long to the forwards, second half we played it smart.

Them losing two players helped but I think we would have won if we played the same way.

If they had only of lost their bearded fullback and Ablett, we would have won by twenty goals!

Our effort in the first half was good but execution of strategy and skills appalling. We then got everything right in the second half led by VIney at the start of the third. Their heads dropped and we were well helped by them being two down. Great to see us be somewhat ruthless and aside from the last 5 minutes of the third not showboat.

What a fantastic win - was looking ominous early with our dominating play but gifting them easy goals thru turnovers. What a way to come out after half time and just torch them.

As has been mentioned it's great that we can kick so many with Hogan and Watts barely bothering the scorers between them. Petracca looked like he started to hit his groove in that last quarter as well.

Neville Jetta. Gun

That is all.

So underrated across the league.  He's been one of the best small defenders for a couple of years now but hardly gets any recognition. Doesn't matter we know what he's worth and that's all that matters.

Wasn't listed in our best in the AFL website. Was easily in our top four most important players today in my opinion.

75 inside 50 entries, top 8 disposal winners on the ground, nearly 100 tackles, including 22 in forward 50.

Was really worried at the first break as gold Coast were shutting the ground down real well and we were making some dumb mistakes. Obviously they have a lot of injuries, and losing 2 players didn't help, but the pleasing thing was we put them away and kicked consecutive goals all night.

Our midfield in 20-40 games from now is going to be scarily good. Jones, Viney, Oliver, petracca, Brayshaw and bugg are as tough as anyone in the league, but use the ball well too. Throw in Tyson, harmes, Kent, Kennedy stretch and possibly anb with Vince to have another few seasons.

Skilled tough players who know how to hit the scoreboard as well. Looking forward to next Sunday playing the dogs, who may need directions from docklands to the G.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
