Bernie Vince re-signs

He'll be on 200k or he won't be on our list. Injury riddled and simply doesn't impact games like he should.

I would just stop at the 200k or he won't be on our list part.

To be perfectly honest, I think we should re-sign Dawes on a 7 yr $500,000 deal just to show that we are the same old Melbourne and our rebuild is not to be scoffed at :pj:

Yeah its in the paper.  He needed to pay two more games to trigger the clause but the club got pro active and signed him to a better deal.

Bravo demons again... They keep ticking boxes.

Talk of Dawes' savage pay cut seems stupid to me. He's got the rest of the year to get back to fitness and show he can still offer something at AFL level.

If he does that - or even if he doesn't and they still want him for 1 more year - he'll get paid like an experienced AFL player, which means probably 300k minimum.

Only rookies, new draftees and the most fringe of fringe players are getting paid any less that that these days.

I'd call $200,000 a year a savage pay cut, but then I'm a filmmaker.

Surely we are not offering Dawes another contract!

Please someone wake me up.

Offering him a 4-6 week deal as rehab group coach.

All this love for an AFL Premiership CHF from other important people.

500k for 7years hell yeah! What's that about 75k a year?

I always thought Carey was pretty good.

Most of us would end up well in the negatives, but the point I'm making is I doubt Dawes getting paid less opens up a pile of gold for Jesse. The money should already be there for him (and McDonald, Jetta, Watts etc) if our cap management has been anywhere near professional.

Oh!  My Kingdom for a humble hyphen!  (Hyphens are my friend!  Especially if it means the difference between whether one of our stars stays or goes...!!)

So, to be plain, we want Jeffie to RE-SIGN, and NOT to resign...!!

Nice sentiments, with which - of course - I can but agree, Mr Barrie-Vagg!

On topic, ditto re all the love for Bernie. And the sentiments re Jeffie. Both are in the 'bring-people-to-games' class, I reckon.

Great news that Bernie signed on for longer! He's been such a great recruit for the club. On field he's been one of our best, and his leadership has developed considerably too. Off field he's been good with the media too, often appearing on footy shows and being well liked.

300k minimum would be  reasonably savage paycut. Estimates when he signed his 4 year deal was in the $500K a year ballpark.

Just can't get on the field often enough. If he does his calf again this year does he even play on?

A no brainer for club to get Bernard's extension done.

Anyone else been frustrated by Bernies 2nd half of the season ? Once upon a time when ever he had the ball I wasn't squirming in my seat, knew he'd make the right decision & execute it... Now I can't bear to watch him take the kick ins. So many uncharacteristic mistakes his made week in week out the last couple of months.. Don't know if his relaxed a bit since signing his new deal or his just getting old or hopefully just a form slump

I know what you're saying. He was always the one who would get us back on track re his disposals.  The one who would sort out a chain of messy disposals not create them. You never know what injuries players are carrying and I lve what he's brought to the side but he's def a shadow of what he's been for us lately.

I agree. His drop off in form over the year has been disappointing.he has issues with consistency at the crows which is why they let him go id say.

Maybe it's the move to the backline?

But he is getting caught on the ball and looks slow which is very concerning

hasn't been the same in 2016 since hurting his shin against the power in the alice.

Very true and he has still had some good games the 2nd half, collecting AFLCA votes in that time.

To be admired playing injured.

Yes. Very.

It's the curse of the contract signature. Vandenberg, Gartlett, Vince.

We should put a figure to Dawes on paper.

I'm thinking of a round number.

A circle number in fact.
