Couldn't find the more recent video of him saying it, but Christian actually does say a more 'Petrahca" style pronunciation in the opening moments of this old video.

Have heard him say it this way every single time

One thing I've noticed, which should be clarified.

His name is not pronounced 'Petrahca'.  Definitely 'Petracka'.

Ahh. Been doing the former all this time.

Good get.

I wonder why all his teammates say Petracka, which I've noticed of late.

Although probably over analysing it might even be the whole "posh vs bogan" difference, plant / plarnt   dance / darnce etc,

no right or wrong, just based on speech preference

Geez, have a wedding on. Shattered to miss it.

Hope he crushes his debut.

Best wishes to the bride and groom.

Is it one of those  ethnic weddings where they wave the bed sheet around in public?

I don't think "posh vs bogan" is excusable (and I'm not saying that you said it was, by the way). But every person is entitled to have their name pronounced as they wish it to be. For example, anyone who speaks Italian knows that Scott Camporeale, Leigh Montagna and Daniel Ricciardo all have names which would be pronounced one way in Italian which is different from the way their families have chosen to have them pronounced in Australia. We should pronounce the names in the way the individuals want, not what we might otherwise believe to be correct. It is disrespectful to do otherwise. So, however Petracca himself pronounces it is the way we should also say it, irrespective of whether we consider ourselves to be posh, bogan or Italian-speaking pedants.

It's an Italian name, so (if my Italian is up to snuff) it should be Pe-TRAH-cah.

But then Leigh Mon-TAG-na "should be" Mon-TAH-nya. Depends on what the family wants to call themselves.

The media and public will end up calling him what they want anyway. REE-wolt "should be" REE-vold, our own David Shworts "should be" Shvarz. Just don't lose any sleep over it.

Could not agree more - my surname is Robinson but lots of people pronounce it  "opinionated-arrogant-snot nosed - upstart" and I'd prefer they didn't

Interestingly Nick pronounces it "Ree-vold", but Jack says "Ree-wolt". It only takes one generation to give in to constant mispronunciation.  It's okay to adapt - I believe in pronouncing people's names the way they say I should.

I played juniors with Leigh and it's definitely Mon-TAG-na.

Doesn't matter what it 'should be', as a few people have said.

This is a picture I drew during my symbolism phase. It's of a pet tracker clamped around the throat of an old, sad golden retriever. Can't quite recall what it was suppose to represent . . .

Has anyone stopped to consider maybe we have TWO of 'em... a Petrahka AND a Petracka...?  Now wouldn't THAT be something special?!  LOL

I think it is so very different this time: not expecting him alone to be the great saviour but just making up part of a great team!

The difference is he is walking into a team with Viney, Watts, Jones, Vince, Tyson, Kennedy, Garlett and even Oliver who will take much of the burden in that midfield and forward role.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
