I think we all forget Tyson has only played 53 games. History will tell us that we shouldn't judge players until they hit the 80 to 100 games mark. Tyson is developing nicely and we'll only get better.

Just from a different perspective, I'm thinking that both Trac and Trenners are both under some form of management to get them to the line in tip top fettle.

The coaching administration at Melbourne would be monitoring their progress very carefully and would be negligent to do otherwise.

A bit excited with the development of Hulett. After hardly playing a game last year, he's on a big upwards trend by the looks of it, and has a pretty high ceiling.

I'm interested to know though, with King being monstered in the ruck, and Hulett being a bit of a monster, did he go near the ruck at any stage? And if so, how'd he go? He's already taller then Pedo (not sure if still growing, unlikely) so I'd expect him to be getting some back-up ruck time at VFL level.

In terms of pecking order I see where you're coming from, but the thing with Harmes is he plays a pivotal role in keeping the ball in our F50. He is ranked third at the club for tackles averaging 5 per game.

In terms of that horribly overused "playing your role", he's currently right up there.

Would certainly be sad to see a Melbourne tragic like Grimes playing at a different club next year, but if the opportunities dry up, it may be the natural course. 

I still think he has an AFL career left in him. He'd put in a better showing than half the mob running around for Port right now.

If nothing else, you can bank on Richmond picking him up.

The sooner we get our own VFL club going the better.

Quality like tracc should not be running around with fellow players who arent in the MFC "system" and game style/methods Roos & Co are bringing at senior level.

Roos wld know this and tracc wld only be there to get his tank up a little, build some confidence and also create an edge of hunger. He wont be there long.

Have it on good authority Mahoney went to Trade Week last year offering up Grimes as "free to a good home". They love the bloke, and were willing to give him away for nix, if it meant he'd have senior opportunities elsewhere.

No clubs were interested.

He put in a string of decent outings in Round 21-23 last season. As far as placing himself in the shop window, he could've done a alot worse.

CIP has runs on the board no doubt. I haven't put a line through Grimes' AFL career just yet, and to borrow a PD phrase, "others can suit themselves".

Fair enough.

I long held out hope for him, just because he seems like a good bloke & worked his guts out for the club during some lean years.

Over time his body of work has shown no real improvement in his stiff and robotic skill execution, his decision-making or his ability to eliminate basic errors.

I think I expected as much because it perfectly matches my opinion of him: good bloke; wish him all the best; sadly not good enough for me to ever want to see him in our 22 again; and unfortunately I don't think there'd be much interest for a guy that other clubs would pinpoint as a weakness when he is in our 22.

I do hope he gets another 2 matches though, because clearly his genes are conducive to producing AFL players.

Yep. If captains were selected based on how much of a good bloke you were, Grimes and Trengove would be made co-capta.....oh.

i don't disagree with some of those weaknesses.  I do think they can be overstated at times. I'll wait with interest to see how he goes over the coming weeks.

Yes Rjay but I doubt they would have so many.

The main point being that they more than likely aren't on the same page In terms of playing the style/method that Roos (or potentially other 'Afiliated'' Coaching groups) would be expecting/hoping for when they take the step up to AFL level.So our list guys are getting the training/drilling part under Roos but missing the real match day simulation that reflects how Roos & Co wld want them to play at senior level.

The Hawks, being the benchmark, would have a pretty big say In the way they would want their reserve list to be coached and what they're expected to bring as a minimum should they be called up. No wonder they do so well no matter who they call up.

It's also alot to do with the quality of any list of course but most observers/followers of the VFL don't look for these senior "team" ethos/method/style Issues. They're mostly only looking at Individual progress and development. Also critical but not the only factor that Impacts on a club's fortunes (or otherwise) at AFL level.

I was thinking more along the lines that both are very good overhead mark of the footy and can hit the scoreboard.

I'm confident Harmes will continue to develop but if JT keeps progressing at this rate, I would expect him to be of greater value to the team from an accumulating perspective and furthermore his superior footy nous. 

The squeeze for a regular spot is really starting to become more evident.

NIGHT CRASH by KC from Casey

After recording two strong victories to open their 2016 campaign, the Casey Scorpions crashed down to earth in their match against reigning premier Williamstown at Casey Fields on Saturday night.

The Scorpions matched the strong stand alone Seagulls in the opening quarter but were outplayed in each succeeding quarter to finally succumb by the margin of 44 points. It was a comprehensive victory for the visitors who were smarting from last week's loss at the hands of the Box Hill Hawks. They drove home the advantage of a winning ruck and played with far more precision and purpose whether in defence or when going into attack.

The Scorpions were best served by Jack Trengove and Viv Michie in the midfield, the former serving notice that he is not too far off a return to AFL football after a two-year hiatus with a serious foot injury. Trengove moved well and used the ball with the class that made him a top two draft selection in 2009. Another player drafted in that position, Christian Petracca might not have been as dominant as in the previous two games, but he too showed enough class to suggest that he is not too far away.

The other highlight on a dismal night for Casey was the form in front of goal of Liam Hulett who marked strongly and booted four goals. The solidly built forward is adapting to the pace of the game after missing a lot of football late in his junior days.

Max King was back in the goals with a couple but he and first-game beanpole Oscar McInerney (replacing the injured Declan Keilty who was sorely missed) were no match for the Seagull ruckmen.

The players generally looked flat after two stellar performances and found Williamstown's pressure all over the ground far too much on the night. With AFL numbers down a little from recent weeks, the young side was lacking in overall experience to counter the drive of the Seagulls but are sure to improve as the season progresses.

Another tough encounter beckons next Sunday when Casey takes on Essendon VFL at Windy Hill.

Like their senior counterparts, the Scorpions' development leaguers were overwhelmed by the Seagulls after a competitive opening quarter. They lost by 35 points but were never really in the hunt after the first break. Ed Carr who has had a lengthy lay off with injury was prolific in the early going and is one player likely to stake a claim for a senior berth in the very near future.
