Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Tomorrow we have

  • kWagner who played 63% game time (GT) last week
  • Hunt who was far from our best last week and only performed against witches hats,
  • Harmes  GT 64, 75, 71;
  • Oliver GT 58, 67, 65
  • Brayshaw GT 58
  • Tyson GT 76, 74, 68

That's six players who can't really play enought GY  which puts tremendous pressure on the rest of the team.  I'm not confident.  Playing all these youngsters seems to be placing a premium on development, not winning.  For supporters that's a hard pill to swallow given the last 10 years.

This needs to be compared in context to what the pies are doing with their players also.... I suspect most teams are playing youth with a 60-70% game time. I also know that mathematically you can't play 22 players on the ground with 100% game time so until you compare to other teams and their strategies it's a bit of a nothing stat to me personally.

i also don't pretend to know what the coaching staff are trying to do, but with several young and relatively quick half back types in the team and an extra tall, perhaps we are planning on a higher risk strategy around run and carry off half back and stretching their defence with some more height... Lumumba, Wagner, Salem, Hunt etc... We might be trying to play a higher tempo football brand... I still think that Oliver, Viney, Jones, Tyson feeding off Gawn is going to be a better clearance brigade than the pies mob.

I didn't tip the Dee's,but I think I'll regret it come Sunday, I feel this should be a win.

With our high attacking zone i.e all in forward half pressuring a score, having backs with pace also stops teams breaking out and beating us on the outside (like GWS tried to do)... It's smart.

Nice post..

It's moot of course but I'd say that Stretch, Grimes, ANB, Garland and even Petracca/Trengove (yes, I know) are ahead of Wagner and Hunt.

At least let's look at like for like, which brings it down to the half-backs: Grimes and Garland vs Wagner and Hunt.

Based on Garland's last game at both AFL and VFL level, you'd have to put Wagner and Hunt ahead of him As for Grimes, much as he's been a loyal foot soldier, he does not have enough impact or hurt the opposition. If he plays more than a handful of game this year, I'll be surprised.

This isn't about Hunt vs ANB either, as they play different positions, and are different kinds of players. Hunt is there to give us speed and penetration off half-back, something that few (if any) other players provide.

Selection decisions have to go further than "A is better than B", they're also about game plan, team structure, match ups etc. The FD have obviously identified a role and a need for Hunt, so he's in. Up to him now to justify it.

Interesting I have seen no comment from senior MFC people chastising Vince for his brainfade, token elbow to the head that cost him a game and the club.  Or did I miss it? Fact is as a leader he should have been given a right old rollicking by Roos for that effort. Maybe he was behind closed doors. But I haven't noticed any club response.

Mate i'm the exact opposite. That match against the Roos was the first time i've seen us play a little like Demons since Swooper's time at the club. A little unsociable footy never hurt anyone.....just ask the Hawks ;)

Gimme more Demon footy please Mr Vince (et al) & less "MFC"!!!! (old school). Harmes attack on ball and carrier also ....woot!

Stick it right up em' Demons! :roos:

we have been drifting in the betting all week out from $2.25 to $3.25 with some bookies, no doubt the bookies are aware of some late changes to the side

I thought the betting was determined by the amount of money coming in for each tean, which would make sense as moron Pies supporters would be throwing their dole money on them

That's right - so  perhaps some punters might know there might be a withdrawal, say Hogan - or more likely might have heard rumors on fans sites such as DL. The pools on individual games of football, spread as they across multiple betting agencies, are small so it doesn't take much to move the odds (and they generally follow each other)

The money is a factor but of the bookies know something the odds will reflect it.

I miss the mcg. Stuck here in wollongong (not a bad spot) I miss catching the train to the g with my kids to the game. Gettiing on at Elsternwick station with a train always 15 mins late. The nervous expectations. The banter amongst fans. The shelling out of my money on expensive junk food. The roar of the crowd. The wiity comments. The not so witty comments from the other mob. The fingernail biting. The heartbreak. The dispair on the train home. Its all good. What a game.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
