CHAMPION full-forward Matthew Lloyd has slammed Melbourne youngster Jesse Hogan, describing his body language as "horrific".

Body language needs to improve, no doubt. But dropping him is not the way to achieve that. I'm sure Roos, McCartney or Goodwin will address it this week.

Maybe Lloyd would prefer him running around laying cheap hits on opposition players?

He is half right - his body language and some efforts are not what they should be.

I get that I too would get frustrated with the way the ball comes in but you whether it hits you lace out or misses you by metres ( which is usually the case) you go out at it the same way.

It is interesting that I noticed it during the NAB challenge as well but did not notice it at all last year.

I disagree with the bashing of Hogan.  That debacle on Saturday was nothing to do with him.  To single out Hogan is ridiculous.

Dropping him is ridiculous as we don't have anyone in the wings, but his body language has been very poor and his output minimal. 

Some of this is to do with him and some of it is to do with the way we are playing him. He seems to be playing too much as a traditional stay at home forward, he needs to be leading more up the ground and potentially receiving the ball on the wing and linking over the top AS WELL as playing from the 50. Reality is that is what you need from your forwards now. Daniher showed exactly that and was the difference. 

He is also very rarely getting hit up on the lead. Now is that him? Is it our delivery? Is it the ball movement is too slow and so the 50 is getting congested? From what I've seen its all of the above; 4th quarter GWS was the only time the 50 had space which allowed him to lead and to be hit up in the lead. Has anyone been watching him running patterns? Is he demanding the ball with strong leads?

Whatever the answers to all this one thing is certain, he is better than this.

Come on guys, don't fall for the media click bait headline.  He said if his body language continues to be that drastic for the next couple of weeks they should drop him, he didn't say drop him this week.  Lloyd's probably gone a bit far to make his point but it's a decent one....we don't want a Richo Mark II on our hands.

I don't recall him on a single lead on Saturday.

He was either in the middle of the ground following the flood, or glued to the goalsquare calling for the ball to be delivered via drone strike with pinpoint accuracy on his trachea.

We don't need him to tell us what's going on with Hogan...it's there for any of us to see.

He needs to get on his bike and work his a... off, only then should he complain about the quality of delivery to him which by the way is very, very poor.

Playing at Casey will do nothing for him or the club, it's such a stupid idea.

I agree.  It's this last bit that is the truth. If in two weeks time they body language is the same we must drop him or send him took chb.

Or challenge him to respond strongly and rid himself of some of the toxic behaviour that's filtering in to his game.

If there is no change after a week, then it's to the magoos for some discipline.

Dropping him for this week wouldn't be the smartest idea.

When we actually delivered the ball quickly & got him one on one he rag dolled his opponent ....our delivery to him & our whole game was horrendous

Do you think is it Roos instructions to bomb on long? In the NAB cup games we were spotting up that option 40m out from goal with a short pass. Worked much better.

Whatever one thinks of Lloyd I think it is a good thing that the media stop treating Jesse like some sort of demigod and remind him he has a long way to go.  Then maybe the primadonna antics will stop - if for no other reason that it is poor teamwork by Jesse. Its not as if the mids deliberately deny him perfect ball delivery.

He has got ahead of himself and he also needs to do the 1% things all the time.

Roos actually mentioned Hogan in his press conf as one of the young players who looked tired.  Then went on to say that some young players may need a rest.  I took this as Roos code to drop players who were out of form without embarrassing them.  I doubt Roos & co will drop Jesse but he will be looked at.

I would not be surprised if Hogan wants to be dropped. McCarthy at GWS walked out. Hogan perhaps trying a different approach maybe wants to be such a pain in the arse that there is no alternative but to send him on his way.

More pressure now than nab challenge. Or players need to adjust. Hogan needs to lead even if that is just to create space behind him or drag defenders with him
