ARe we confident of getting more than seven wins this year?

Recommended Posts

We just lost to a team thats been on the ropes for three years and has a swag of its best player out due to bans

We wont win more than 7 as long as Roos stays in the coaching chair..  Goodwin will get us 10-11 wins

Putting aside the horrible loss today, can Melbourne still get at least another seven wins?

Absolutely.  One game doesn't make a season.  We've got plenty of time to bounce back and make amends.  We are still more than capable of some excellent football and I'm hoping the players take this as a huge wake up call so they can get their act together.  We know they're much better than this.

I truly believe we are in that group of teams that will make up 5th-12th. Atm, we are closer to 12th but we are still within reach.

We're in games for longer even when we're awful. Don't underestimate last week's win.

10 wins is a pass, finals a plus.

Any less and Roos' tenure has been a failure.

f--k i envy your optimism. Apart from ten minutes in the second quarter we were a disgrace today. We were weak, stupid, switched-off, lazy, disinterested and completely unskilled. There was no heart whatsoever. We were completely outcoached. Our so called heroes and young guns (Watts, Brayshaw, Hogan etc) didn't do a god damned thing. The 'wake up call' you speak of I was expecting at quarter time. All day nothing changed.

No. Today proved that the underbelly of this club has not changed. They are willing to fold when an opponent is hungrier than us. If we get lucky and cop 5 days where the opposition is completely switched off, and we have some luck, we may win 5 more. Our win/loss will be 100% decided by how hard our opponents come to play...

And the talk of numbers of wins and sneaking into finals has been laughable coming from the MFC. This is a club that 4 rounds of football back were 10 goals behind Carlton in the second quarter. There is very little heart in this club.

The old "I only remember the last thing I saw and project it forward ad infinitum" trick.

Come on guys, we won't be that crap every week. Nobody was questioning this after last week or the preseason. We know we are capable of much better and I expect us to deliver it more often.

I believe that we will win more than seven. Our list has improved but unfortunatley no where near as much as we all thought six days ago. We may win ten but even then we have a long way to go. Need some bigger bodies and harder nuts at the ball/

I know we don't agree on much mate, but I don't disagree with the above - we were horrible today.  No doubt about it and I could never argue otherwise.  There is MUCH to work on for this club going forward.

But it's Round 2.  We need to chill just a touch.  There are plenty of opportunities for us to turn things around and we know we can play some exciting footy.  We just need to get a few things right.  I'm left in no doubt that this will be a very tough week on the track and in the review sessions, and I'm hopeful of a much better performance next weekend.

If we've played like this for 4-6 weeks then, yes, my optimism will surely have faded by then.

I said we could win 6 games and be a 'better' side than 2015.

At this stage...not a chance.

We were horrible and Bradbury'd it last week, we were horrible last week and lost this week by a couple to a bunch of kids and geriatrics, and it should've been 6+ goals.

I said at the start of the year I expected to finish 12th - which would make the trade for picks with gc17 a break even based upon points.

But I can't seem us finishing outside bottom four based on the first two weeks.

you are talking like we are about to find a cure for 'not giving a f--k'

we have been SCREAMING OUT for more than a decade for a 22 that will actually FIGHT for a WIN

clearly Roos with his CULTURE BS has achieved nothing, because you won't find a more peahearted effort than what we saw today

IDGAF if we come out and win next week. I WILL NOT BE FOOLED AGAIN. 22 weeks out of 22 I want to see EFFORT, LIKE A PROPER CLUB DELIVERS

absolutely fooled again the lot of us

I've got a better chance of picking the powerball numbers, than i do of guessing which side shows up each week.

Having said that, we've only played 2 good quarters for the year (not including nab challenge), so worrying signs :(

What scares me most is that our playing group are historical white flaggers. Most seasons, the players seem to chose at what point they've chucked it in and refuse to compete for the rest of the season. Will it be after this embarrassment? Or will they wait and see how the next few rounds pan out? There'll be people around who will blame Roos, blame the players behind tired, blame the fact that the players like Goody more than Roos, blame our lack of experience, blame our pre-season, blame Hogan's contract talk, probably blame the parking around AAMI stadium, who knows what else. The players will happilly hide behind those excuses and put the queue in the rack at some point.

We have a good list, we will get a lot of wins. But there was a clear lack of desperation today. We are carrying quite a few laid back characters, and when they don't perform, we are made to look very ordinary. Players I am talking about are Watts, Salem, Hogan, McDonald, Tyson. There is a lack of desperation among a lot of our so called stars. Kennedy has managed to come in and overtake a fair chunk of the list, Oliver has looked better than 3 quarters of the list in the limited time he has played. Brayshaw did the same last year. It probably indicates we aren't quite as strong as most believe we are. I would like to see more from Salem, and Hogan needs to suck it up and stop sulking. He is a good player, yes, but he needs to realise that the whole team doesn't revolve around him. I feel that Roos might be pandering to him, hopefully a harder approach is taken. Viney had an uncharacteristically bad game, and I would've expected Gawn to dominate the ruck today - he didn't, and that didn't help. Our midfield needs a drastic change IMO. Jones and Tyson just aren't effective midfielders at the moment, and it is issue, our midfield is getting smashed by first year players (Parish), and overtaken by our first year players (Oliver). Looking forward to Petracca debuting, Gus gaining fitness (looks underdone), and Trengove returning (hopefully near his best).

You're welcome to take the prerogative and, after today, I don't blame you.  But I'll be waiting to see more of this season before I'm willing to right it off.

I agree, and I had thought we might have turned the corner in that regard with our NAB and Round 1 form.  We have come from behind in all and shown a willingness to fight.  We lost that today and it's up to the players to prove that today was a complete aberration.  I have faith and I'm willing to be howled down for it in a months time if we're still on 1 win.

The players looked overawed today. Big crowd. Essendon scum trotting out their past greats to rev them up. Going in as favourites alone seems to spook them. Going in as favourites on the big stage was simply too much for the little darlings.

Jesus Christ what a shameful performance. They need to be read the riot act this week. The club MUST move past this garbage. I thought we had and I was conned. Yet again.

I agree.  100%.  I also think there were players out there today who just expected to win, and this is a huge wake up call for them as a group.  Unless we rock up each week we'll get our pants pulled down.

I've got faith we can well and truly turn it around.  We've shown enough so far this year to suggest we can do it, but it's up to the playing group now to make it happen.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
