I'd say at least 4 VFL games for Petracca given he has not played games since 2014.

Maybe a few more for Trenners. It'll bring a tear to the eye when he makes it back to the ones. Early signs are encouraging.

Round 5 or 6 sounds good to me.

20 touches in 65 minutes. Probably 80-90 minutes this week, let's hope he can have 20+ again and maybe hit the scoreboard.

When Trac comes in Oliver and/or Brayshaw will go out. They will rotate this year. Sadly I don't think we will see all 3 of Oliver Petracca and Brayshaw in the same team this year

Why's that? When fit, Brayshaw and Oliver are best 22. Dont understand this comment at all Oli.

Assuming he means because all of these players will only play limited game time. That may change as the year goes on though and they build their conditioning up.

They are already only playing approx 60% game time. As the year goes on they will tire even more and it would be poor selection to play 3 young players who can't run out games and are already being declared as tired.

I think the club will want him to have at least two full games for Casey, before they select him. He has to be able to run out a game before he is selected. Despite his great talent there are others ahead of him in the fitness stakes, like a Matt Jones, who did well on Saturday.

A decent club would give him 5 games at Casey a desperate club would give him 2.

"He did well, so now we plan for him to play three quarters this week and a full game the week after. So it will be about three to four weeks at this stage before we would look at him for senior selection."

Melbourne will not rush the exciting prospect into the team, and are eyeing Richmond in round five or St Kilda the week after for a possible senior debut.

I still think Trengove will come in first, backing him for Richmond, gives him 2 more weeks at Casey.  Petracca, I reckon could be on track for Richmond also but it will depend on how bad we go over the next two week. If we get smashed by North and beaten by Collingwood, I reckon both will be back for Richmond.  If somehow we are 2 and 2 going into Richmond I reckon we will see Trengove against Richmond and as long as Petracca's form holds we will see him the week later.

IT SEEMS that Christian Petracca may finally be ready to make his long-awaited AFL debut.

The 2014 No.2 draft pick, who has battled knee and foot injuries for the past year and a half, was excellent in the VFL over the weekend.

He recorded 28 disposals for Casey Scorpions in a big win over Frankston and showed he’s in top-level form as the Demons consider a potential debut this weekend.

Go to 14:20 for the Petracca mark, goal and sledge to the Frankston supporter

He won't play this week. Maybe against the Tigers, but he was only meant to play 75% this week and build to a full game over the next two. I doubt they will bring him in this week, I think he will debut against the saints.

Agreed, and the article I posted was just speculation by the author it seems.

But the time is drawing nearer when the Trac is unleashed.

Yep, can't afford having players who can't run out a game especially with the new cap rule. Pretty evident with Brayshaw.

We're already carrying Oliver but that's about it. Can't have 2 or 3 of them. Can't wait to see him though.

Think the earliest we will see Brayshaw, Petracca and Oliver all in the same team is Round 6 vs Saints

So I guess thats going to be Petraccas debut game too

If he has another good hitout this weekend in the VFL i cannot see why he can't come in next week against Richmond. After this weekend thats 4 weeks of solid match fitness in the VFL including the intra club.

After watching him Saturday Night I was left with the impression he probably just needed one more hitout.

Can anyone advise on how Petracca is defensively? Will he work hard to hold the ball in our attacking 50 like Kent and Kennedy do?

He's yet to play a full game though hasn't he just played 1/2-3/4 's? Probably needs a couple of full games in the VFL first..

Lots of people don't notice this and call for Kent's head. Defensive pressure has been relatively good so far in 2016 thanks to these two.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
