Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

My theory on M Jones...

he was recruited from Box Hill, working under an elite Hawthorn game plan and is benefiting from playing in a good Melb team. A friend who played with him still maintains his run and spread is up there with the best he's seen. A good contested ball winning midfield = a good Jones

I reckon Mattthe Jones has one of the best hands on our team. He is very clean in terms of picking up a loose ball. Impressed me a lot.

He won a crucial contest on the far wing where he had 2 giants players on his heel and he was able to keep his feet when others were losing theirs and break away from the pack with ball in hand.

I have never been a huge fan of Matty Jones because of his obvious flaws but at the match I couldn't fault his game. Watching the replay today and again I couldn't see any obvious errors. I would be curious to see what his disposal efficiency was but I would suspect it would be very high. On Saturday he seems to have corrected the obvious flaws that have haunted his game i.e. tackling and kicking. Lets hope it continues.

21 touches at 95% efficientcy not too shabby.

7 of Jones's 21 disposal were kicks, i like it that he is looking to handball it more, his kicking was disgraceful last season

Knows his limitations then, which in turn will make him a better footballer.

Matt Jones' problem was that he gave away stupid free kicks too often. If he has fixed that then that is great for him and for the team. We need smart footballers.

Great effort as always Joe. Yes, I disagree with a few, but that's the whole point, isn't it?

Average Melbourne player frees against per game = 0.84

Matt Jones average frees against per game = 0.7

Argument not stacking up I'm afraid Junior.

Matt Jones is one of the best 22nd picked players in the league, in my opinion.
I think he will be a big contributor with our adapted, open, running game style.

Strange comment as he would be the 28th player picked in most other teams

Ah the old stats argument,.you know what they say....

Well falling clumsily into a players back 15m from goal won't show in the stats aside from being a free. It should be asterisked as a stupid free then it might help you with your analysis. Or you could watch his past games and you might then understand what I am talking about.

The one big difference.....when he breaks loose and looks up, he has 2 or 3 options to give it to.....nobody standing still or surrounded by opposition players....Watts and Jones being allowed to be the player they have been all along   because we have improved across the board

You cannot emphasis this enough.

When players stand still your disposal needs to be 100% accurate and you second guess yourself when trying to play a ball into a stagnant position upfield.

Contrast how much easier it is to dispose of the ball well , when everyone is on their bike, a step or two clear of their opponents and providing options.

Absolutely agree. Like certain others, he's been unfairly maligned by many here in an unfair and uncritical way.

He's got good hands, he's evasive, and he's pretty quick.

I always take note of how the players assess other players. In my observation, the rest of the player group think Matt Jones is a good player.

In fact, I'll never forget Rodan saying Matt Jones was super hard to tackle - just so quick on his feet. And remember people, Rodan could dance.

That he played in round one after one of the best pre-seasons in living memory, with a relatively full list to pick from and a highly competent coaching group now assessing the players, says it all in my opinion.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
