Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Richmond - delusional?

Jeez Richmond looked very average up until the last 15 minutes. If Carlton could kick straight the game could have been all over for the tigs.

You'd think we'd put both of these teams away comfortably. Can't see the tiges finishing top this season if that's anything to go by. Skills were atrocious.

Ricmond reacting like they've downed Hawks in a final.

Agree with the Carlton comparisons on here - our kids were completely spent and gone towards end of 2nd quarters let alone 3rd quarters. Good coaching, good drafting, new club.

Carlton lost, can't ask for more than that.

Richmond looked underdone, long road ahead I guess. Maybe some wise old head in tiger rooms told them to hasten carefully....Hannibal....

I reckon they're comparable list wise, but the mental scars our players had aren't.

Insipid group of hacks.
The fact that they have managed the last 2 years in the finals is fraudulent.

Not only will we towel them up this year for the third year running, I have them tipped to finish in the bottom 6.
Yes they won, but not in any way to be proud of and if they can only muster a 9 point win against Carlton then they are in for a long year.

I cannot believe that at 3.30am I was awakened by an Airbnb request from California from somebody who wanted to fly in next Friday night to watch the Pies play the Tigers. (I live next door to the "G") I replied that l have an ABC policy here and, unless they wished to watch the mighty Demons demolish the Bombers on the Saturday, l am full up (no vacancy). I hate to see some Yank waste his airfare to watch rabble.

Exactly and isn't it bloody frustrating. Port under Hinkley and the Dogs under Beverage are other great examples.

Just saw the presser, Hardwick said they, Richmond, were a year younger on average so the more in-experienced team. [censored] me if that's the best you've got for that performance, I don't expect to see you around too much longer.

Tiges

Gone

Richmond are a mess and as Clint alluded to they won't play finals.

Pies MCG - loss

Adelaide MCG - 50/50

Eagles WA - loss

Dees MCG - loss

Port MCG - loss

Hawks MCG - loss

Sydney MCG - loss

Freo WA - loss

Bombers MCG - win

North BA - loss

Suns MCG - win

Lion MCG - 50/50 with Beams and Rocky

Port AO - loss

Bulldogs E - loss

Bombers MCG - win

Hawks MCG - loss

Giants SPOTLESS - loss

Pies MCG - loss

Cats MCG - loss

Saints E - 50/50 they are now mentally shot

Swans SCG - loss

They are in massive trouble, and they just extended Hardwick's contract to stop this kind of speculation. I am aware they beat Hawks/Freo/Port/Sydney last year but I don't think this will be the case this time around.

Agreed. I just did the Ladder Predictor on the AFL site and had them finishing 11th.

Some will laugh at my prediction and that's fair enough. I don't see them doing what they did last year and that was rolling the Hawks and Freo etc again. North have owned them for years and we also seem to be their bogey side. Port/Pies/Geelong will overtake them this year for mine. If we can get another win over them they could potentially be 1 & 7 or 2 & 6 (or yes they could be 8 & 0), they are their own worst enemy.

So someone on twitter compared the tiges to melb in 05.

Topping up with ageing players to have a crack.

That cliff is coming

They're more like Melbourne of 2007 at this stage, though. And Melbourne "topped up" in 2002 and in 2003, which was a "mini" rebuild after the disaster that was the 2002 finals. Finals in 2004, 2005, 2006. We had zero depth though and fell away every year after looking the goods around half-way through.

Richmond will either fire and make the top 4, or crash and burn...hard.

Last night's match reminded me of Melbourne v St Kilda in Round 1, 2007. Melbourne expected to win comfortably but it was the beginning of the end. Start of the rise for the 'Aints. Only difference between that Richmond was playing a pretty inexperienced and dysfunctional (at times) squad that doesn't run two ways hard enough for long enough. Toiges very lucky to get away with that last night. Blues were a 4-5 goal better team for 70% of the match.

Carlton have been tanking for a couple of past years,  so weren't as bad as they appeared.  Malthouse was used to spite the pies,  & to be a scapegoat once the blues had realised there was to be no fairy-tale early in MnM's coaching stint.

Since that point they had inner disagreements between rebuild ideas, & they also layed down for the list..

so the list wasn't as bad as they looked in games last year.

Richmond they found a way to win.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
