NT deal done?

Recommended Posts

I am flabbergasted by this. Nearly everyday I receive a NT Tourism email, directly as a result of the MFC association. I even planned to go to the last match in the Alice (but is was too dear)!

Move Gold Coast Suns to Darwin - they become NT Suns.

Then they can have permanent "community engagement" with their own team.

The follow up move is GWS Giants to Tasmania - they become Tassie Giants.

WIN/WIN.

would we still get our half mill?

The quicker we get out of the Darwin game the better.

Just a shame we didn't get in on Hobart faster. Would've worked nicely.

Roosy's contract off the books will save plenty of cash. The money is one positive and as much as I'd like to go to all the games I think reducing the number of MCG games acts as a positive by increasing crowds for the other games.  Suplly v demand etc. That's been the true master-stroke of the Hawks deal I think, which is a bit of a sad thought.

Hard to draw a crowd and become a popular local representative when you lose nearly every game.

I don't know why people are up in arms about us playing there by citing our poor record - we've had a poor record at every ground for 5 years.

I'd love to see a figure of how many memberships have been bought by residents in the NT though.  Have we really had a positive impact?

The NT Government has fired back:-

NT Government clarifies Melbourne Demons relationship

When was the last time I believed something I read in a newspaper?

"Recent media coverage that the Melbourne Demons are set to be given the flick from the NT is both inaccurate and ill-informed,” Mr Barrett said."

Thank god for that because I'll be there for our first NT game on 28 May against Port Adelaide.

Back-peddling nonsense. NT News is the NT News but there are direct quotes from the Chief Minister from a radio interview that he is unhappy with the MFC. The NT government is a bigger rabble than even we ever were.

They're also much more interested in the NRL as noted by his comments.

Port Adelaide would be a perfect fit for NT, but they don't need to sell their games so there's no need to have a team there.

apart from his comments what makes you think the nt is more interested in nrl?

Doesn't suprise me. Most Governments are like that now...

Hmmmm - will be interesting to hear/see how the club responds to this.

Hmm. On the surface it sounds disappointing, but let's wait and see.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
