The Players union must now be hot on his heels Dr.

I don't know whether they lose because it's one appeal divided by 34 or they go way past Hird because it's one appeal multiplied by 34.

I'm sure Hird won't give up the race quietly though, Mr Old.

I know this probably is a very foolish thing to say Dr. but who has Mr Hird left to attack?

Surely he is out of opportunities?

Another voice in the wilderness calling out the AFL's weakness: http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/02/08/afl-commission-lacks-courage-counts/

Shame the more serious mainstream media don't say the same.  Credit to Greg Healy for speaking his mind.  He seems the only one:  Gerard Whateley is sitting quietly on the sidelines.  Patrick Smith is writing puff pieces about membership numbers and Caro is still on holidays.  She is one of the very few who does, at times, take aim at the AFL...I'm hoping when she returns that she will be a voice for the good.

Caro will say nothing as we know who Dusty plays for.

Sorry Mr Old, I probably didn't make myself entirely clear. He's certainly out of decisions to appeal, but I can't see him letting his 'reputation' (not sure what other word to use) be eclipsed by a bunch of players without making a noise about something.

Stadium Australia wins rights to new Perth stadium http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/wa-football-loses-in-perth-stadium-bid-20160208-gmosd4.htmlto the potential detriment of Freo and Eagles.  It may seem no big deal except the AFL Chairman, Mike Fitzpatrick sits on the Board of a company with shares in Stadium Australia.  http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/mike-fitzpatrick-could-have-second-conflict-to-manage-at-major-afl-stadium-in-perth/news-story/33a1d79e556bd6b13a9faacdb2c7d3f2

Not in any suggesting something untoward.  But it must limit the energy and resources the AFL commits to fully support the WAFL for its consortium to manage the new stadium.  You would think the AFL would have learnt from the problems of not having management/ownership of its major stadiums and being locked into financially unattractive contracts.  This applies to ANZ stadium in Sydney, Adelaide Oval and Etihad - all with contracts detrimental to the AFL tenant clubs.

We complain about Gil but Fitzpatrick's approach and his many conflicts of interest has probably done more harm to the AFL than Andy D and Gil put together.

There have been other occasions. The AFL was heavily influenced by other clubs that gave their opinions over whether Melbourne should be awarded the draft assistance it applied for at the end of 2012 and 2013. The Presidents of Collingwood and Hawthorn both had plenty to say about not giving assistance to a club that had just been found guilty of "tanking," which is obviously a far worse offence in the eyes of the AFL than injecting most of your playing list full of banned, performance enhancing substances along with various concoctions from exotic places like Mexico without keeping track of what they were given.

The crime and corruption commission (or whatever it is called) needs to look into the conflicts of interest that abound in the AFL hierarchy.

Yes, it certainly has some legs.

Bearing in mind that this is the off season and as soon as a footy is kicked in anger all (most) attention will be on that.

But this is the damage that EFC have done to the game. This is bringing the game into disrepute. When even followers of the game are disgusted and offended.

While EFC supporters are grappling with their 5 stages of grief, the rest of us are grappling with the 12 stages of disgust and offence. Stage 3, posting to the internet, is the longest stage.

Gil, the consummate dealmaker, will easily deal with this.

He will talk to the player, the club, the stakeholders, any interested parties, and come to an arrangement that pleases everyone.

From Round 1, bookmakers will be allowed to take bets on wizzing in a cup. Who does it, when, etc. But because of the kiddies, it will only be allowed in night matches, after half time.

Can anyone remember when players would routinely do this in the huddle at 1/4 or 3/4 time and no one gave a rat's wizz?

Pissing in a cup is bad, but if half your team are rubbed out for drug cheating then you can hand pick replacements and if you finish last pick 1 is coming your way.

Geeezus.

Correct however i seriously doubt they will finish last.

Carlton already has that spot locked away.

Infact they will be so bad that the AFL will give them an extra pick at no.2

So the bombers best is probably 3.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
