Christian Petracca's toe injury (in full training)

C&B - I think you are missing my point.  Accidents can happen to anyone in daily life, and in casual recreation.  One can 'stub a toe' that turns out to be a small fracture.  I heard that Angus played golf at the weekend - had he been hit by a stray ball, pulled a muscle or been bitten by a snake would we stop all (especially younger) players from golf?  And I don't think that having a great injury record or a poor one should make a difference as to what one does for recreation provided that it is not a recreation that carries high risk or aggravating a prior injury.  Cotton wool does not prevent injury.

you are talking about a highly improbable freak accident vs a bloke who has openly admitted he was being 'stupid' and has drawn the ire of the coach, because he obviously put himself in unnecessary risk. If he was walking down   the street and a piano fell on him then that is bad luck, but he brought this upon himself

I mentioned Petracca's injury to my mate whilst playing golf this morning. His son did his fifth metatarsal. His son had an op. and returned early, re injuring his foot. He then needed a bone graft of sorts (bone taken from hip and made into a paste). He finally returned late last season after missing nearly two seasons.

I think if Petracca misses only 6 weeks, that would be a good outcome.

it was quoted at one stage as a "hairline" fracture

if true shouldn't need an op and should repair itself in a month with proper care

i had a hairline fracture in my heel which i didn't know about. just went about things normally and it cleared up in a month. found out it was a hairline fracture about 15 years later when i had an xray

Tracc crack.

Hope it's not true.

I'm OK with this, in that it will slow his comeback from the ACL.   The more time the stronger imo;  lets hope he takes his time now with the toe.   The foot takes a lot of stress.

ch9 news described it as a "fractured toe" and showed him walking to training with one foot in an open moon boot

previous reports here said hairline fracture of metatarsal which is different

so, what is it? seems to be a lot of misinformation circulating

Maybe we should give the Richmond doctor a ring.

The MFC website only mentions vaguely a toe.  What is the source of the metatarsal being the bone?  I've looked through all the posts and unless it was misspelt I cannot see any attribution, just assertions by one or two people which were then repeated by others.  Source please?

Of course there is / will be a lot of speculation ranging from a very minor crack in a phalanx to a major mid foot fracture, with the outlooks varying from a few weeks non full weight bearing to career ending.

Does anyone one have any factual information?

well i suppose the good news is

1. no talk of an operation

2. four weeks in a moon boot

this implies a hairline fracture (of something, either a metatarsal or a phalange (toe bone))

but something more factual would be nice

Moon boot?

That is good news.

Has any club in the history of Australian professional sport had a run of bad luck like the MFC?! Is there any club that has been less able to get all its top draft picks on the park? Has any club had more premature deaths, career ending injuries, club scandals? It could just be a month but seriously what the F%&* is wrong with this club? What did we do ??

good point. We need someone to map all the piano shops in Melbourne and inform the club so Petracca doesn't walk past them.

Drafted Jack Watts. It is always his fault.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton

The Demons were blown out of the water in the first quarter and clawed their way back into the contest but it was a case of too little too late as they lost another close one to Carlton losing by 1 point at the MCG.
