Josh Mohoney isn't up for the job. Why the [censored] do we wait halfway into trade week for a decision by Howe? Other clubs force players to choose early meanwhile we fluff around and sit on our hands while his in Bali kicking back with the Pies wel into trade week.

To be honest we should have forced his hand as soon as he put off contract talks to end of season.

Put in your resume then mate, you clearly know more about what's going on behind the scenes and how to rationally handle it.

Find that a bit hard to swallow given he was willing to leave MFC for GC.

Surely just posturing now that he has a clear preference, or at least a Melbourne-based club has agreed to come close enough to the $$$ offered at GC.

The Age today indicated that the offer from GC was substantially more than the Pies.

Not inclusive of The Footy Show appearance fees and Collingwood sportsmen nights, etc.

In terms of $$$ to Howe or what they'd be prepared to give us in return by way of player/pick?

Close enough.

As in close enough for Howe to be happy to stay in Melbourne, and not still want to leave the state because the difference was so great.

If it really is significantly more, that works in our favour if we want to eventually talk him into still going to GC, as I doubt Collingwood will offer anything we really want.

This worked in our favour when Johnno was around. Maybe it's time for Lyon to give back a bit, there's no way he would have his current position if it wasn't for this contact and the MFC.

Fair trade. If you can't see that then you're probably still holding out hope of us getting Dangerfield, Treloar, Dixon & Carlisle this trade period.

Unfair just yet...

They are getting these deals done to do something else - if it is to get this Parish kid then I admire the focus - outside of the top 15 players on your list and the top 15 picks - the rest is just cannon fodder.

Yeah man, I was just venting. Let's see what happens.

Unfair on Mahoney.

We shouldn't judge him on small stuff like this.

If we sign up Hogan long-term soon - does Josh get any credit?

Spot on rpfc.

How is that people don't see both players were ordinary and were never taking us anywhere fast?

We were trading ordinary players.

No one pays as much for boiled lollies as they do chocolates.

No, that's not how it works rpfc!

If we manage to keep Hogan, everyone at the club deserves a big [censored] medal... Perhaps even a premiership medal!

I know Mahoney is doing the best he can, but the decision to trade for Melksham early in the piece was a mistake IMO. We could have given Essendon #29 instead (which I still think is overs).

Better still, give them pick 32 that we got from Collingwood, and exclude Toumpas from the Howe deal.

No point sweating the small stuff.

Decide who you want, do the deal, move on.

The difference a few places in the draft make (outside of the first 10) is neither here nor there, and what happens on draft night is something of a lottery. No-one could have foreseen that we'd get ANB and then Oscar Mac at the picks we did, or that a lowly pick like Vandenberg would end up being a decent enough player to pick up Brownlow votes.

Melksham for 25, Toumpas for Kennedy etc. - these aren't in themselves deals that are going to make or break the club. On the other hand, bringing in three young hard-at-the-ball players, regardless of their deficiencies, does start to shift the culture of the club and set a precedent, especially for players that will be competing for the same or similar roles.

Melksham for 25 or 29 - does it matter if we still trade the remaining pick out and achieve what we set out to?

Same as receiving picks 29 & 50 along with Kennedy for Howe & Toumpas.

I'd suggest many would be calling it a win if we acquired picks 21 & 32 along with Kennedy, but what does it matter if we still would have trade those picks out & achieved that same net result?

Wait until the period is over and then judge.

I assume we will try and trade up the board with GWS, Sydney or Brisbane who will probably auction picks #7, #8, #14 and #17 for Academy points.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
