Lol wait what?

So... we would've overlooked Ollie Wines, Stringer, Macrae, Menzel, Grundy, Mayes?

I don't think so - perhaps we were looking at him with our second rounder but definitely not our first.

Collingwood picked him up with 19th.

Only one Melbourne recruiter had Wines in their Top five post under 18 championships and leading into the draft. Toumpas, Plowman and Kennedy were the 'liked players'.

I'm stoked with this deal... Yes the toump was pick 4 and effectively got pick 29 for him 3 seasons later but correct me if I was wrong but cale Morton was a pick 4 as well, both clearly had skill to make it in the AFL but neither have the heart or courage to go hard at the contest what's the point on keeping him on the list just because he was a high pick, he doesnt cut it so he's gone. And to get Kennedy and 50 for Howe is about even IMO. Shattered we couldn't deal with Gold Coast but if we can get bugg for pick 50 I'd take Kennedy and bugg for Howe.

Wouldn't have known Ben Kennedy, but watching his highlights pack the one thing that stands out is competitive aggression. If those of you naysayers can't see what this club are trying to create, or should I say re-create, then you aren't paying attention. So far we have Kennedy and Melksham, and seemingly Bugg. What is the MAIN thing these guys have that Toumpas and Howe don't? Hunger for the hard ball and the contest. It's THAT obvious, and it makes me very happy.

I hear what you're saying. I just hope these players have the skills & attributes to go with it. There's not much point if they don't. From my limited knowledge of these 3 players the knock on them all is their kicking. Kicking skills is a big weekness in our list & I'd be happy if they addressed the hardness & skills at same time. Perhaps I am reading too much into but these players improve our depth & that's about it. If that is what the club set out to do so be it.

I think we might have to put up with the odd mistake in order to get him to flourish. He'll be frustrating the crap out of us then he'll start to find the tempo at AFL level and work out when to try some tricks and when to play the percentages.

Speed and footskills. It's what we need.

Exactly my thoughts... What on earth has the football department just done.

Kennedy is a hack. Too small for the midfield and unproven as a small forward.

Toumpas for pick 29??? Wtf!!!

Pick 4 in the draft a couple of years back. Makes me sick to the stomach that we passed on wines, McRae and stringer.

The drafting department needs to be shown the door after such a poor choice.

I would have also preferred to keep him on the list as pick 29 in a weak draft as almost worthless.

Toump was taken in the draft overseen by Todd Viney after Eddie made Jason Taylor serve out the final year of his contract as Derek Hine's deputy. Jason Taylor has overseen the subsequent drafts.

Can't see any reason to keep Toump. Has shown no elite traits at AFL level and has not stood out at VFL level.

I have posted Toumpas's stats on here too many times so i won't again, but for those who haven't seen them (ones new to Demonland), they are actually not bad and show good progress. Just that he was cursed with the pick 4 draft number, and the fact that we didn't draft Wines.

I feel like this will bite us in the foot, and Toumpas will blossom in Port Adelaide.

Now i have said this, and my stance has forever been stated here on demonland, i will move on.

Exactly...

Matt jones still has a bloody contract and we are so hasty to get rid of toump:

What was the rush? We would have gotten pick 30 for him in the next 5 drafts.

Kennedy isn't even in out top 18 players. He won't play more than a handful of games next year.

How is that a good deal?

We don't need another light bodied small forward in the forward line. Garrett is enough.

Yeah well, I also believe that I will win Tattslotto one day!

Dud pick four and IMV will be delisted after two years!

What the Christ were we thinking !??drafting a bloke with dodgy hips, questionable skills and decision making?

Oh.. so typical MFC!

One day I might tell you all what I really think!

Go picket - do it!

As another poster said, if Kent is fit, Kennedy allows him to move into the midfield. If not, then he takes Kent's place.

Likely ahead of both JKH and ANB at this stage.

Have to admit, I too knew bugger all about him before this other than that we rated him before the draft. Looks fast and tough.

You can compare Bens highlights vs Jimmys which are being shown on the Port Adelaide page.

We have the one I'd prefer anyway. Jimmys highlights are incredibly dull.

Welcome Ben. All the best

Good luck to him, but he's a VFL standard player.

...... but we back ourselves to turn him into an AFL standard player. I like it!

I would think Jay Kennedy-Harris may be a little nervous about this recruitment. Seem like similar players with similar height, weight and age. (Similar names too which is possibly irrelevant)

And that's a good thing. Guys like JKH will need that pressure to make sure they work their backside off to improve and make themselves a best 22 player. Having guys like him, ANB, Stretch etc as guys ready to come in to the side is infinitely better than what we had previously.

he won their VFL best and fairest this year.

Great guy. Hope he makes it. I've seen first hand how hard he trains and prepares himself, whilst working a full time job too.

Welcome to Melbourne Ben Kennedy

What did Port see in JT??? Something ....and good on em

If he succeeds well done to him, nice guy.

The lesson again is Draft picks are overrated

And that is what MFC is now doing right

To paraphrase (badly) that great player and MFC life member....St Francis Xavier

Give me the boy at the draft .....and I can only GUESS what he might be.

Give me the player at 22 and I will KNOW what he can do

So far so good

Go Dees

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
