2015 Player Review - # 4 Jack Watts

Recommended Posts

Against popular belief I hope that Watts stays. He has showed signs of using his speed and skills while playing forward and had some great assists throughout the year. Everyone knows that we need his skills in the team we just need him to get more off it.

I would give him one more year and lose his as a FA next year where the compensation is likely to be higher than trading him for a fringe player or late 2nd round draft pick.

Me too.

I think that there are many on here who do support him, but can't be bothered responding.....it's getting tiresome. He needs to be left alone and work with his coaches.

My Father and Brother went right through school at BGS so i have seen quite a few games of footy on New St. over the years.

Nice try Stuie...

Ahhhh gotcha. So they must be both younger than you somehow then and played with Watts and knew him well?

Does anyone actually think the penny will actually drop for Jack? In a perfect world if he could put some steel and hardness into his game he could be a valuable player. Surely coming 18th in the B & F has got to be a wake up call to him?

He has had more than enough time and more than enough chances. Sad thing is, he actually played a couple of real games of footy this year. Ran hard, tackled, presented well etc. It's just that he falls into his old ways given enough time.

I can not see Watts being anything more than "good" for us. Is good enough? You can only have so many of them in a team and given his ability to go missing completely, if his time isnt up, it has to be one an absolute knife edge.

what?

We have often met up over the years watching a BGS game

And that included when Jack Watts played on the School oval.

Oh, so you're saying you don't know Jack Watts really well personally then? That's funny, you seemed to be able to make judgments on his mindset as a teenager, so I figured you must have known him well....

Stuie...who gives a flying f**k mate

We judge him from afar for his efforts on the field.

apparently hes a top bloke..thats marvee.

Many are confusing or at least compounding unnecessary elements.

What does Watts bring to our game ?

Lets keep it dog f simple.

All these personal squabbles are just bullshlt.

18 blokes take the field at any given time. Who are the best ones...actually what is the best combination ?

What are our pluses and what are our gaps ?

Is Jack Watts relevant to us going forward ?

Increasingly i think NO

Am curious to see what the club does.

But let's keep this simple

I've got no problems with judging his onfield efforts Bub.

But having a crack at him by making comments about his personal mindset as a teenager is just ridiculous unless you knew him personally at the time, which WYL clearly didn't.

I watched him dominate a comp in 3rd gear

Where is that personal Stuie?

As a kid at school he never had to push himself on the Sport Field. He was already better.

This is what he lacks and always has.

Mate, say what you want about your impression of his efforts at MFC, but you know nothing about him "pushing himself" in his teenage years. You don't get drafted number 1 to AFL level without having ever pushed yourself.

Stuie..my point is...No one need buy into or retort to that. Do they ?

It's irrelevant.

If we all just keep blinkered to what happens on the paddock it's clearer as to Jack's value to our list.

Jack has pluses...he has minuses.

The scoreboard only cares about the game

So what is that value...above or below the pass line ?

Yep, fair point.

I think if we forget the fact he was a number 1 pick, which really is totally irrelevant after draft day, then he's a handy player but as it stands he's not always best 22. But I know who'd I'd rather getting picked out of Watts and M.Jones, Bail, Terlich, McKenzie etc.

He was a #1..but as you suggest that is not the issue.

Interesting lot to choose from...and by default Jack wins. I would want Jack to be best 22 against a much better crop of options.

Reality is i suspect if all fut..Jack comes in under the line. That he did also when an incomplete list presented confounds even me.

The club has concerns. He may have run out of time and the patience of those who matter.

If thats the case...so be it.

I want a good list...care not who is actually on it....scoreboard doesn't. .just saying

I think free agency compensation is going to get overhauled.

What happens if he gets dropped again next year.

What would we stand to get?

It seems to me JW doesn't really care whether he plays football or not.

I also don't care whether he does or not. He is not going to be a part of the future of the club so really he is irrelevant.

Jack's best football is elite, I truly believe that. His worst football is a long way below that.

It is disappointing that he hasn't been able to close that gap in seven years.

He has had three senior coaches, and numerous assistance coaches in that time. I don't know if that has hurt his development, but it certainly hasn't helped.

I would hate to see him at another club, but if the price is right I couldn't blame the club for moving him on. I certainly wouldn't move him on in a fire sale though - there would have to be something seriously good coming back the other way.

Had a really good few months before he, and a few others, went back to his usual ways.

Even if it is only to bump up his trade value to a decent level.

Unless part of a package, I can't see him getting anything worth his value.

We can rewrite 2015 to say that we will take ND35 for him (the proverbial packet of chips) but it won't make it true, and it won't make it a good trade.

Watts should go to a top 4 team. Ideally for him, I reckon Freo, Hawthorn (Brad Hill??) or Sydney, or Port (Pittard???)

Maybe a swap to the Bulldogs for a bit of their speed. Don't touch Koby Stevens. His back aint good from what I have been told.

The B&F result just shows everyone that the coaching brains have lost faith in Watts long ago.

If we can get something for him then great, but I hope we don't offload him for the sake of it.

Don't think he's asked for a trade because it would have come out by now.

He's gone from best 22 to depth player. If he doesn't fit in the squad and takes the place of an M Jones or Bail as a depth player when we have injuries, then it shows how our list has evolved.

Good thing list decisions are made by professionals and not by social medal voting as happens with reality TV shows, then.

On topic, I'm confused by the B&F voting. How does any player score so relatively poorly yet play so often? I would have thought a player with those sort of scores would have been in and out of the team a lot more.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
