FAREWELL JIMMY TOUMPAS

You know....when you prune roses you have to go hard.. It looks brutal...but look what blossoms.

I reckon a footy list isnt much different at times.

and Ill keep going back to the adage..whatever isnt part of the solution....is part of the problem.

If when adjudicating players you cant put them into the 'solution"...well guess what they are.

Footy is brutal at times. Winning clubs whilst appreciating their assets are people still keep firmly rooted into the ideas of 'bettering" their lists

True.

And we hang on to them and hang on to them and hang on to them.

Not always the case, e.g. Cook. More importantly, they were held onto in an environment that wasnt far short of toxic as far as youth development goes. Different environment. Different coaching set up.

IF we could get something half decent then maybe, but I just don't see that happening. Therefore you give him another year.

Yes, it's a different coaching environment. I'd get rid of him, but I'll back them to make the right decision.

Turn the list over.

Harmes, White, King (who I really like)

Every spot is valuable.

Toumpas has no elite AFL traits.

Just like Watts... What's the point in trading him ? His potential is greater then his value. What would we get a pick in the late 20s, early 30s ? What's the point, would rather hold onto him then go with an unknown in the draft. If he doesn't cut it in the end like Morton then so be it

The trouble is we know we have a dud in toumpas we may have a great player in a replacement selection

This discussion is going around in circles. Clearly those who say he is worth keeping because we can't get much for him in any trade/pick, don't think he is a 100% proven dud. They may be right, they may be wrong, but no one seems to add anything new to the argument.

The dees shouldnt re-sign toumpus.. They should de-list him and make him a rookie.. Make him hungry.. If he doesnt want to be rookied.. He'll leave.. If he stays might wake him up to some good footy, just like it did Jetta'

Not convinced he could be any hungrier than is he already.

Equally unconvinced that he will turn out to be a good player.

Or he was offered a contract, but hasn't signed yet in case he gets a chance to go home...

Because he holds all the cards.

Or is it another case of nobody wants him.

1 years under Neeld.

2 years under Roos

1 year under Stone

1 year under Goodwin

1 year under McCartney

Righto, he'll let us know when he's ready.

Clubs aren't stupid, they look at who he has had at his disposal, and there's some pretty handy names there and nothing....

Why would he do that? You don't just lose that talent. Clear top 5 pick.

Morton, Tambling, etc unlimited.

Some simply are not as good as the recruiters thought they were initially.

Here we go again

This club should learn from the past and cut and run

Get what we can and stop deluding ourselves that we can make a silk purse out of this guy

He has shown absolutely zero lets just move on!

We did this a couple of years ago with Neeld and it was a waste. It's akin to Malthouse cutting and running on their forwardline of Betts, Garlett and Waite. It'd be a dumb decision to cut and run on Toumpas. Float him for trade by all means, but if you can't get something decent for him in return (probably part of a package deal), keep him, back him and hope he comes good.

GTG..the thing I wonder about is why when many talk of Toumpas being let go etc is that its simply for a pick or a player. I.e him for something scenario.

I would think Toumpas will ( should he go ) be as a 'sweetener' to another deal. On his tod he might not fetch much in the market but as part of some package it might be the difference between us gaining something...or not.

I choose the word GAIN specifically because if Toumpas can help facilitate us getting something we need and can use then we have gained. If he ( JT ) gets to clear the decks and reboot...so does he.

I see nothing wrong with this.

I agree with you, and I will support any move that improves our list. If Toumpas can be part of a package that will land us a star, then I'm not against moving him. If we're only going to get a late pick for him, I am absolutely against moving him.

What I was trying to say is that I don't want to see us lose players for less than they're worth, and at this stage, I think we'd be on the losing end of a trade if we were to give up Toumpas for a late pick.

You've got to know when to hold 'em

Know when to fold 'em

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
