GAME DAY - Round 22

Tom McDonald: lots to like, but he costs us goals with the constant turnovers. Seems unable to kick to a Melbourne player and have the ball arrive at the destination.

I've been banging on about kicking actions for a long time but he and Grimes have two of the worst and are probably our two least reliable kicks, coincidence?

Grimes doesnt need to be the cleanest kicker. He is hard at it, he is getting the contested marks and he is trying. He's in out top 5 so far this match and he didnt play in quarter one.

Salem is showing some class, wish we had him all year. Viney having a good game, Cross seems to be in positions to get the ball but cant say he's having an impact. Dunn's been good.

Surely not. The 50% disposal efficiency is just a statistical blip.

It is a statistical blip. It's recording handballs that go to players being tackled. Should be reading 0%

That covers the kicking, but how about the poor handballs?

Grimes has a couple of doozies today - though like his intent and general presence around the ball/contest.

Not sure though that we can have both Cross and Grimes in the team ...

I think Stretch has shown enough this year to suggest he'll be a good player for us. Hasn't had any huge games this year but has shown plenty of glimpses of what he can do once he puts some weight on and builds a tank.

yep. Gutsy, excellent decision maker, reads the game well, good disposal. Will be very good. Salem is very special, Neal-Bullen will also be very good.

Matt Jones would have to be the worst skilled player on our list. Please tell me he is not contracted for next year someone. What is Roos thinking picking this guy for games? Grimes had to wear the vest instead of Jones? FFS.

I'm very pleased to inform you that Dean Terlich and Matt Jones have contracts for next year.

Whoever's in charge of list management (Mahoney?) isn't doing a great job. Why not just get these guys on rolling contracts? Not like other clubs will go after them.

I am having flash backs to ten years ago when we played Freemantle and kicked about 50+ points in the final quarter to win. . I think Woinamerri kicked a bag of goals.

I don't know if it's possible and if we had the funds, but I'd be doing everything in our power to buy out the last year of their contracts. Either that or trying to trade them for picks in the 100s. Just get them off the list any way we can.

Well done Max! Reckon he's gone ok against Sandi today.

What the hell has happened to Spencer? Absent since half time and Max has had to ruck on his own.

Injured I think WB

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
