I think it's pretty easy to forget how good Jack Trengove is, him getting back to full form would be like adding another Brayshaw.

would be huge if he can get himself right.

I think Trengove is a perfect replacement for Crossy off half-back.

He has the elite marking for a mid-sized player, plus a high footy IQ.

He is perfect for the Beau Waters role.

Completely agree. Have said it myself before. The strength he has on Crossy is that he's a better kick. Edited by AdamFarr

Perhaps part of the reason Cross was let go is that the club are very optimistic about the state of Jack's recovery?

Otherwise I think many of us are still scratching our heads.

I think his speed has been hampered by his foot for a long time. Be interesting to see if he gains some toe on his return.

He made a point of that during his last interview.

It will be interesting to see indeed.

Was reported on ABC that the money north melbourne 700k that was gonna use in Motlop and Treloar will now be focused on Bennell.

HAHAHAHA... $700k? What could possibly go wrong?

I guess going from Sin City to a retirement home is still an improvement for Bennell's wellbeing.

North are so boring. If we don't land Bennell then I'd rather he join a club that was interesting, not the bloated, over rated fluff that North Melbourne is.

North have been chasing a 'star' even longer than us.

I for one desperately want Bennell in our side in 2016.

'Desperate' is quite apt.

For 23 disposals and over a goal a game (since when have we had a prolific ball winner who kicks goals ??) we'd need to take on some baggage. Is it worth taking the risk ? My answer, carefully, would be yes.

The next best thing to Bennell coming to us is the pure lulz of him going to a side that is so obviously a season away from oblivion. North Melbourne are like a guinea pig in a wheel; endlessly getting average draft picks, endless average performances on-field, endlessly picking up average free agents, endlessly finishing their season with average finals performances. There is not one thing about North Melbourne that indicates a premiership beckons.

Nothing would please me more than seeing Richmond smash them tomorrow.

You'd think for Harley going forward it wouldn't purely be about money. It would be more about going to a club that can surround him with good people and a supportive environment. Hopefully we are that club.

There's a number of issues here. First one is that the GC not only need to get something back for Bennell, they need someone to take on his contract. He's reportedly on good coin, Bennell's not going to take a pay cut if he's got an existing contract that says he earns $X and his new club say we offer you less. Second point is I think you're giving Harley far too much rope in terms of what he would like in terms of surrounding himself with the right people and structures. He pretty much ignored the advice and assistance at GC, I'm not convinced he's learnt his lessons yet.

How anyone can be so dismissive of a player like Bennell, with his stats, is mind-boggling. I'm glad so many of you aren't managing the list.

We have two proficient midfielders with a third (Viney) on the way through and Petracca, Brayshaw and VdB to come. That's not nearly enough. More importantly none of the above are goal-kicking mids, which are rolled-gold property in Premiership circles.

Melbourne should at least have a good, hard think about it. If they go all in, I'll back them in. He's worth our 1st-round and Howe for a 2nd-round or whatever's been mentioned - baggage or no baggage.

If he fails, it's one spot on a list that didn't break the bank. Cut our losses and move on.

Jeffy Garlett was considered not worth it this time last year because some young Turks decided to bash him for a Taxi.He was the defendant in that case.

If arguing with nightclub bouncers was a crime I'd be doing 100 years solitary.

The drug photo was Robbos way of being a prik to deflect criticism from the Bombers.

We need pace-he's got it.

Let's make a deal!

I agree. He'd arguably be the most naturally talented player on our list.

Not a lot to lose and a hell of a lot to gain. It's certainly worth the risk from a cost/benefits factor.

People say the correlation between Bennell's exile from Australian underage touring squad and what's happened this year makes him bad medicine. All I see is a bit of a DH, like Hodge and Franklin and Swan and err ... a lot of Hawks and Pies when they won flags.

Gold Coast are a bit of a joke. A newbie franchise with no idea how to operate as a football club (look at the McKenna debacle) so I don't care for Bennell's few disciplinary mishaps in his first year. Then there's the division between bible-bashers and happy-go-lucky party boys which would never end well, and it took one hand grenade (Hunt - his housemate no less) to set them off. Bennell wasn't the only naughty boy up there, just the poster boy - and made an easy target by Gold Coast when he flicked that cigarette butt. Get a grip, Gold Coast.

If we give away a first round pick it does break the bank, we're not in the position to waste anymore draft picks. Garlett cost a pick in the 60's, a whole different story...

Not saying we don't go for him but it will be done with care not for a punt.

That's purely speculative and not what I meant by 'break the bank'.

Bennell is worth $700,000 a season - Treloar money - and we won't have to reach that deep into our budget given the circumstances.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
