Gee, not for me. I think he's a fairly ordinary footballer. I haven't seen that much of him but what I have seen I would have thought theres a strong chance he could and should make it to the pre-season draft. Pick him up for peanuts. Play moneyball. I mean look at Saints with Hickey and Bruce, they didn't pay overs for players I'd rate above Lynch. I'd rather find another Vandenberg.

I'm not too sure he's that much of an upgrade on Dawes or Pedo.

Oh well, I hope we don't pay him too much or offer him too many years.

Ideally we want mobile mid-tall forward bit of strength and strong leading patterns. This guy seems to fit that profile. It then lets you play a second ruckman in the forward pocket, would like to see a forward structure like this

Garlett Hogan Second Ruckman

Kent Lynch Watts

2 tall mobile targets that work from 50-50, speed a good strong forward close to goal and the long get out with a tall ruckman. We need someone that can be that second ruckman, using dawes is a waste of time, we are now robbing our backline by using MacDonald as that second ruck.

I wouldn't mind something like

Garlett Hogan Kreuzer/Vardy

Lynch TMac Watts

Kent Brayshaw Vince

Lumumba, Frost Jetta

Salem Dunn Grimes

Gawn Jones Viney

Tyson, Cross, Petracca, Vandenberg,

More importantly we need a play making half backman like Brodie Smith or Grant Birchall and of course an A grade midfielder....

Wow, really?

He averages 17 touches and 7 marks and has booted 25 goals.... he shits all over Dawes and is much better than Pedo and 5 years younger

I agree, if you were going to go that way, I'd do something like;

B: Neville Jetta, Lynden Dunn, Colin Garland/Sam Frost

HB: Jack Grimes, Tom McDonald, Heritier Lumumba

C: Dom Tyson, Jack Viney, Jack Watts

HF: Tom Lynch, Cam Pedersen, Dean Kent

F: Jeff Garlett, Jesse Hogan, Jay Kennedy-Harris*

FOLL: Max Gawn, Bernie Vince, Nathan Jones

I/C: Angus Brayshaw, Christian Salem, Jack Trengove, Aaron vandenBerg

*Form needs to lift for him to be there. There are actually a few I could put the asterisk on...

Between Lynch, Pedersen, Frost and TMac they can pinch hit in the ruck. Another pre-season under the belt of the beard will help him out for next year as he knows what it takes now. I left Petracca out as we haven't seen what he can do yet.

Yes. He plays in another team HH.

Behind Walker and Jenkins.

He has a strong midfield that provide him lots of opportunities.

Let's be understanding of the context surrounding those numbers. Are you aware of Lamumba's numbers from last year for Collingwood and where he finished in their BnF?

Have a look at how he's performed for us this year.

I think people are getting pretty excited about an average hard working forward. Sure he'd be a replacement for Dawes if he keeps performing at the level he has been. But Lynch wouldn't set the place on fire at the Dees next year.

Spot on. Lynch will be a different proposition when Jack Viney is kicking it at his feet and Dom Tyson is kicking it over his head.

Sam Jacobs is one of the best tap to advantage rucks in the comp, and he's putting it down the throat of Dangerfield, Sloane and Thompson, and there's an AA in Smith off half back.

It'll be a bit different with our midfield and the likes of McDonald, Jetta and Grimes providing the rebound off half back.

Don't get me wrong, we need good players all over the ground so I'm not opposed to Lynch, but I think whatever we give for him would be better spent on a pacy, skilful midfielder or half back flanker. If there's none of them out there that will come to Melbourne, sure go for Lynch.

First of all is Grimes is still in the best 22 next year we are still a rabble.

Secondly we can't afford to muck around, if Lynch is entertaining a proposed 4 year deal, we can't leave it until the last day and then find out he goes somewhere else.

We're not going to solve all our problems this year.

One thing we can be sure of is PJ et al have a good history of getting their man. If they want him and they feel the deal is reasonable, it will be done. I have every faith in our negotiators

What will we have to pay Adelaide for this? He's value has risen since we were linked to him no?

Posted (edited)

Mark Bickley this arvo mentioned on AA that he was pretty worried about Lynch. Was calling it a godfather offer and saying its twice as long a contract and more money that Adelaide is offering.

they were talking 4 years $2m (at least I think that's what I heard) $500k a year.

Sounds like he will inherit Dawes contract, only Tom Lynch can play good footy and isnt a statue.

Fingers crossed.

Well, I'd easily pay that. It was rumoured we paid Dawes a lot more. Lynch provides a lot more. It's a win if it's us.

Easy to understand why Adelaide can't match that, considering the situation with Dangerfield.

What I don't understand is why they couldn't match the number of years. Because you'd probably take a reduced contract $-wise if the contract was longer. I have a feeling we have been in his ear since very early in the season.

Posted

Our mail list worried are midfield, ruck and a good half back flanker like Birchall or Smith....I'm not against getting Lynch, but we have bigger worries if we loose Jones for a season or Gawn for another season...

One serious and sad question - with Adelaide playing finals, and playing with amazing fortitude given the events of the season, why would he want to play for us?

I am sure that Hogan would love to have him sharing the forward duties.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
