Could not agree more, it has become so tiresome. We know his strengths and his faults. He plays a good game and the Watts support crew come out in force, reminding others of their pro Watts opinions. He plays a bad game and the Watts haters are back louder than ever questioning his intestinal fortitude and whatever else. Lets be satisfied in watching his improvement and recognize that this young man has shown character and fortitude in dealing with the criticisms, scrutiny and public pressure. I thinks its a remarkable that he is still in the game, still wants to play for the MFC, and has been able to keep smiling throughout.

thats what I grew into, in my younger travels; when friends start to associate with drugs, & then pushes come into the group & they steal your jumper from under your nose, & you catch them wearing it 2 weeks later... what is a man to do but embarrass them, & fight them to get it back from them.

when they tell you your dead, they'll shoot you, they're s only one response appropriate to them; do not miss !

what are you talking about cb

Michael Long is high character. was a catalyst to winning Premierships & is loved by kids.

Roger Merrett was popular amongst the kids. & was a multi Premiership player, not just well liked.

Dermie is a multi Premiership winning player, & has huge character,

Long was a dog of a player. Still have not forgiven him for the cowardly hit on Troy Simmonds and for a hit behind play on Ricky Jackson out at Windy Hill.

I'm not sure what just happened...

some people trying to take the high ground; now that JW's appearing like he may become, a player just yet...... after the pain we've all been through, since just before he was recruited...

some SA's want to try to be the holier than thows, & trying to paint others as if they didn't want JW to succeed.

more soft trash from the north. 'see I told you so', 'we're the king of the castle'... & all that childish twaddle. from those who Dare Not.

He's been a diabolical dud. To rate him "incredibly highly" is utterly nonsensical.

Thankfully, it looks like he'll reach his potential, which is so far from his draft selection it's not funny. Nonetheless, we're grateful for small mercies.

He's a mistake. But he's a mistake that's becoming a valuable entity as we move forward.

Booooo!

Confidence and self-belief are key to him and he's slowly starting to believe in himself.

At the champs he knew he was good.

He needs to know that at this level and he'll break the shackles.

McCartney is doing an outstanding job, I'm looking forward to what will unfold in the coming weeks.

Not to mention I never sit at the footy. I've been standing on the members steps for 30 years.

Waiting for them to grant you admission? ;-)

Close thread.

We're done here.

We're not done here. We'll continue to laud Jack's improvement or comment on his poor performances. That's the way it goes on a forum.

Fingers crossed he keeps up the good form.

Part of me thinks Demonland wants to praise Jack Watts because we appear to have a new whipping boy in Chris Dawes.

Maybe there should be some sort of ceremony for handover of whipping boy status.

Any ideas BBO?

I think Jack realized his career was on the line when he dropped himself to the Reserves & is now aware that his attitude towards the team and his game needed adjustment.

He always had the talent

I get that - I was being facetious. I just wanted to have a break from the enigma that is JW.

I agree on your second point.

I am sorry to have a go at Watts, but his performance today was quite simply terrible, how many turnovers did he do....hard to believe

First quarter kicks it into the man on the mark from a kick in...it's been a long time since I have seen that happen, probably under 10's and second or third term when he had it on the members side just outside the 50 with Hogan streaming forward with a 10 gap on his opponent and Watts ignores him and kicks it straight to a north melbourne player....it's a [censored] joke

If you read carefully it is said that a large number of players were ill - too many to leave them out,

Given Jack's major turn around recently, and the (apparent - I haven't yet been able to see the game) poor / insipid performance of him, and as I understand such regular contributors as Nathan Jenes and Bernie, maybe give some consideration that some were not physically up to playing but had to.

To anyone who has ever had flu or flu-like viruses, would you feel like or indeed be able to walk let alone run around on a footy field for 2 hours at peak performance level?

I know someone who knows the Watts family. I was with him at the game with yesterday and it was touch and go whether Jack would play. He was being assessed right through till game time. However I was also told it was more a migraine than the flu for him.

So that's his excuse for kicking it into the man on the mark....bizarre.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
