I would play Toump and I would send him to Montagna. He played on him last time and was shattered after the game when Joey kicked the winning goal.

It would be a real opportunity for one of Roosy's "learnings"

Why play a bloke who is not in form in the magoos, has not shown any of the assets required for a senior player and frankly really doesn't deserve a game!??

Sheeit we want to want this bloke to be a good player, more probably because of what we missed out on a at draft time ( Wines)

Problem is he is wanting in a number of significant areas!

Whilst i agree that at this stage Toump has shortcomings, i am not one to right off players who have not had a fair run due to injury. i have faith that Jimmy, whist perhaps not being a star, can be a 200 game player. I am also not one who consistently and relentlessly compares him to other players .

dunno why newton's name keeps coming up so ften

has been pretty ordinary at the magoos

can see grimes coming in. maybe jkh out, stretch or anb the sub?

I don't know why Grimes name keeps getting mentioned, been on the list for years and has continually struggled. Can't get a game over a 32 year old or an 18 year old. People continually name him on the bench, as what, part of midfield rotations? Both our bank flankers should be able to play midfield as well. Grimes was gifted too many games, at least Newton is made to earn his. I would like to see him given another run before the year is out.

While I agree he hasn't earned another game as yet, you can't say he "has not shown any of the assets required" when not even a month ago you were impressed with him and stated that he did indeed have some of the tools required to make it

The blind often have trouble seeing.

Grimes was in the team until injured. He was playing well. His disposal looked like it had improved markedly. He came back from injury and was one of the best at Casey.

Your excessive and uneducated attacks on Grimes became boring long ago.

What I find amusing is that when people give their reasons as to why he should be in the side things like "leadership" and "great speaker" are thrown up, never "elite disposal", decision making", "defensive pressure", "ability to take the game on".

Regardless of whatever reason you choose to believe as to why Grimes hasn't become the footballer we all thought he would be is irrelevant. Fact is he's had plenty of opportunities(years) and judging by his lack of games this year it could safe to assume that the coaching panel as a whole have identified him as a player that doesn't have the ability to take us forward.

Come years end if Roos//Goodwin went into trade week and told 17 others clubs you can have Grimes for a pick in late 50's/60's all you have to do is pick up his wage, how many takers would there be? Honestly, Not sure if Carlton would want him, Brisbane might due to the state of their list. In recent seasons we have targeted ready made/mature players,(fringe players at other clubs/players from state leagues)players like Michie, Newton and VB. Stating the obvious they may not all work out, but we at least we've tried. If VB makes it and the other two don't that's not a bad result. I think they were all given an initial two year contact. Those that don't make the grade get moved on and we try again.

Yet for some reason many think Grimes is the exception. "His disposal has dramatically improved", so he's gone from diabolical to average/below average. You only have to look at the Hawks/Swans game to understand how far we are behind the Swans and how far they are behind the Hawks.

Feel free to hang on.

My uneducated comments....you idiot.

If Roos thinks someone else needs a rest, then Toumpas comes in.

In regards to JKH, Roos loves, loves, loves him. I can't really see him getting dropped. The thing I love about JKH is his positioning. He's a bit like Jeffy in that he knows exactly where to run to, and where the ball is going to fall. We took a lot of contested marks on the weekend, which dries up the supply for the likes of JKH. Jeffy has purchased the land at Hogan's feet, so this is basically a no-fly zone for JKH.

If we can carry a "passenger" at the moment, I think JKH is it. He's only an ounce of luck from tearing a game a new one, and will be learning far more from playing in the seniors (especially seeing first hand what Jeffy does).

I'll tell you what... From now on I'll only make comment on Jimmy Toumpas's positives!!!

How reasonable is that!

Ahh, Picket. I knew it wouldn't last. Poor form is apparently not just the prerogative of our players but also Demonland posters.

I tend to agree re JKH. Reads the play well and needs game time to get it right.

I would think that one (or more) of ANB, Stretch, Harmes may get a 'rest' at Casey. They have had a look, know what is needed, and what to work on.

I don't know where you get this from about Roos loving him and I think you are overselling him.

I'm also not so sure about his positioning from a team sense and I don't in anyway see him as being ready to tare a game apart. He's shown no signs of doing this.

Tear a game apart! I am waiting for him to earn his spot next week. A quarter here and there is the result so far.

I think JKH has been nothing but a liability in his two games back from injury, slow with the football, poor decisions and lack of first option leading to his team mates being left stranded.

He would not be playing except for the injuries and the fact that they probably wanted to manage the game time of ANB.

He hs not shown any indication other than the game against Richmond in the NAB cup that he is likely to tear a game apart and I think he will be struggling to earn his spot had we had a full compliment.

Too many people over rate JKH, but not even over rate by a little bit, but by a galaxy

Limited opportunities but I have a big ? over JKH. He looked the goods in his early games but has not developed. Just does not get enough of the ball.

he is still young, so i may have been a bit rough, he is just really lucky that we have a massive gap in our list when it comes to small forwards, but that said I agree, doesnt get it enough or do enough with it

We should ignore his first game back. It's difficult to assess any player who's the sub who doesn't come on until late in the game, whether they play well or not. Questions remain about him, but it seems to me he still needs to adapt to the speed of the game. As I've said previously, spending time in the seconds won't help because it's played at a different speed. Whether we can wait until he adapts at the top level is the big question. Given where we are at, I'd keep playing him in the seniors for a little longer.

i actually think jkh is better moving further up the ground, and getting more involved, rather than stationed deep forward.

Didn't Roos say he's being groomed as a midfielder and not a small forward?

I think he's very coachable, which would be why Roos likes him so much. We've had far too many players that don't listen to basic instructions, and they all get shown the door at the end of the year.

Listen to a majority of Roos' pressers, in particular when we were going through that run of injuries. JKH's name is mentioned most times when he talks about important players being out (along with Kent's name). Roos also didn't have him spend much time at Casey after returning from injury.

In regards to his play, I watch him probably closer than any of our players. His positioning is very good, and will only get better the more games he plays in the seniors.

I might have mentioned this earlier in the year, but I can see JKH being one of those players that only needs low teens possessions and have a real impact.

All that said, we all look at the game from different angles, and while I see a lot of positives with him, clearly others don't. I'm satisfied with what I am seeing.

To be honest DC I think Grimes isn't part of Goodwins plans, many won't agree but if the last year of his contract is minimal I wouldn't be surprised if they try to offload him or pay him out. Do we keep him as a depth player? As it stands kids are getting a look in before him with Salem still to come back. I think what is hurting Grimes is his inability to run through the midfield. As we know successful teams have skilled midfielders playing on back and forward flanks. The role of being an exclusive tagger is dying. If freeing up his spot on the list unearthed another VB I don't think too many would complain.

As much as I bang on about Grimes I did have high expectations for him at the start of his career. My best mate was involved with him in a coaching capacity for a period off time whilst he played TAC cup.
