The Jack Viney Made Me Cry Thread

Your wish is my command. Excuse the analogue quality. I'm not Fox.

Notice the backward steps and overall defensive posture. It's indicative of a dog that has been abused by its master. One must assert one's position, after all...

Hurn got Viney. Viney got him back. Is it the first case of Viney made me cry reciprocation?

Footy folklore. We'll be recalling this game for the rest of his career. And his sons' careers.

That was the best individual game I've seen from a demon in a long time. Without his injury he could have had 45 touches and 30 contested possessions

Tonight, it was me, but in a proud way.

So courageous.

I know what you mean. When he went off the first time and I saw him grimace I thought, "he's been huge but if he's in pain you know it's bad". Then he came on and was big but restricted, then he went down to the rooms and with no coincidence we faded. I thought, "even with him being on he will be something of an inspiration, but realistically he won't won't be on his game" I was so wrong.

I was a kid when Todd played and he was the first Melbourne player I remember thinking, this guy is indestructible. Jack has taken the Viney name to another level, and he was massive.

I get this feeling that there would've been a lot of people feeling proud; his dad, Goody, Roosy, and players/coaches that were with him at the beginning like David Rodan.

Nothing was going to stop him.

Hurn got Viney, Viney got Hurn back harder. There's footage of Viney running back through the rooms once he'd been taped up: I bet Shannon Hurn heard those footsteps and felt like a Mafia hit, whose cards were marked!

For a split second the footage of him in the rooms looked like he was trying to run through a concrete column!

The AFL experts stroke themselves over Joel Selwood. No doubt Selwood is tough and a strong leader, but Viney is next level tough. I have never seen anything like his performance last night. It is the best midfield performance I have ever seen.

Nah.

What an effort that was.

The grimace wasn't from pain, he just thought about something stupid he said 7 years ago.

Nash, that grimace was after the doctor told him he'd be off for a few minutes.

The Hurn hit was beautiful. Will Hurn hit him again? Will he have second thoughts.  What will other players think if confronted with an opportunity to hit Viney? I think a reputation is being built. He didn't make Hurn cry because Hurn was unconscious. The rest of the competition know, Viney is hard and has a great memory.

Even made GAJ pull a sickie rather than face JV.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
