I won't be there today, not because of the game being at Docklands but because of the ridiculous start time of 4.40 on a Sunday. If it was our home game I might have relented but it's a ridiculous time for footy, especially for those of us with young families.

The AFL wants the fixture geared towards TV so I'll be watching this game from my couch. Sunday twilight should be preserved for WA games where it is still mid afternoon, there is no reason other than TV we couldn't have played at 2 or 3pm today.

Hope we win, but I'm not confident. If our mids can play like last week we should give Hogan, Garlett, Pedersen, Howe and Watts enough opportunities to score but Bruce has been in great form down the other end this year and Riewoldt always kills us. Let's see what happens.

Go the Mighty Demons!

If we shut down Stevens we might win.

Can't see them winning unless he runs riot.

Having a look through the line ups hasn't filled me with any more confidence... Saints have some A-Graders in Steven, armitage, riewoldt, montagna is still a very good footballer.. Dempster down back. They have a more even spread across the board. With the likes of ABN, stretch, Riley, Michie.. Not a lot of experience between them. Hope to be proven wrong though

Yep. I wouldn't get home until 9:30ish which is my bed time to get up just after 4am to go to work.

Afl doesn't care about country members, just TV dollars.

On the way up for the big occasion.Expect BBO to do the shirt thing again when we win.

Brayshaw, hoges, and a few other young fellas have made the game exciting again.

Way to take the gloss off a win! :)

Hoping Viney can do a job on Steven..if we play direct footy and use the corridor we should win today...

Remember they'll also have to stop Jones, Vince & Tyson, as well as Brayshaw & Viney.

Quite right Doctor. These games are out of my time slot too. I'll be viewing from Romsey Manor and do the shirt thing for the "lads" only.

I remember that loss against Sydney in 1993 (I was in year 4). I got mercilessly teased in the playground at school during the week after. Tough gig being the lone Melbourne supporter at the school.

I watched it with my Dad in Tasmania, he used to work away from home 2 weeks out of 4 and I went and stayed with him. It was on TV for some unknown reason and I was really excited to watch.

Fortunately by the time it came to go back to school most had forgotten I think. I would have been in Grade 8

Yeah, it a bad time and not a great ground, but I will be there (if only because it is the last game I will get to for about a month). Thankful that the shirt thing is only for Romsey-dwelling designer camels ...

Even though Bitter will be watching from Romsey Manor, I'm sure he would Instagram you a shot of the shirt thing if you really want him to.

I expect to see Neal-Bullen and Stretch celebrate their first win in the inner circle early this evening. It will be a fitting for them to enjoy this together.

We haven't beaten St.Kilda since the 2006 Elimination Final. We haven't won at the Docklands since late 2007.

Today is a huge chance to erase two hoodoos and it's also a very winnable game.

We better bloody win.

We are going to smash them. Hoodoos will end today.

Not following that up with a "or I'll never post on Demonland again" HH?

At the start of the year I would have penciled this in as a win.. Not so confident today. There midfield is better than ours, they have a superstar in Riewoldt who wins games off his own boot. Combine that with our long injury list.. I'm not looking forward to this because it's a game would have thought we would win if we've made any improvements

Our mid field had a decent win last week against a better rated mid field than St Kilda so in theory we should come out on top in this battle if we're on.

The 2 keys will be our ability to shut down Roo & Stevens while at the same time kicking enough goals to get in front, then defend and stay there when the fat lady sings.

Apart from Garlett and occasional cameos from Howe & the Hulk (who had a shocker last week), our forward line hasn't really clicked this year and IMO is presently our biggest weakness along with a few other ugly aspects of our skill levels and decision making in general play (outside of set plays around stoppages which has improved substantially but is unfortunately not sustained for the full 4 quarters...yet).

Hoping for the best... Preparing for the worst

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
