He could've done the war dance with Lewis Jetta, Buddy, Yarran, etc before or after the game in a show of solidarity but he chose to do it by himself after he kicks a goal.

Have you approached the AFL to choreograph the war dances for the indigenous round next year?

It was said on the radio this morning that comments directed towards Goodes from parts of the crowd were putrid. Clearly aspects of the booing are related to race. And some aren't. Exactly what the split is, most of us on here can't say bevause we weren't at the game on Friday.

I saw a game at Victoria Park years ago where the Collingwood faithfull were trying to spit on the fullback as he was taking the kick out.

I think it was Wirrapunda.

One of the last games at Victoria park.

Thankfully.

From a marketing point of view. YES.

I would get MFC to find another big melbourne club (Hawthorn or Carlton) and make it a marquee game.

Play a game Thursday night every year on indigenous round.

Get all 82 indigenous AFL players to attend and participate in the War dance before the game.

Thursday night would be perfect as it is a stand alone game and will allow interstate players to attend and participate.

It will give the opportunity to show solidarity amongst indigenous AFL players and a proper way to celebrate and kick off indigenous round.

I haven't been much of a fan of Goodes since I was at a game at the SCG and he snotted Simon Godfrey behind play. I'm also not much of a fan footballers, actors and other "celebrities" becoming Australians of the Year. But that isn't his fault

As for the war dance, it seems fairly provocative at first glance and people will no doubt have differing opinions but it would be good to wait to find out the circumstances that prompted it.

Generally small minded, weak, little scared people don't like Goodes. Not so much for his race but his passion, intelligence and pride are too much for them to bear. The fact he's indigenous just makes it worse for them as they crawl around taking shots at him

And another thing I reckon Paul Roos needs to concentrate on his own team and individuals rather than lend comment which featured in the Hun This morning!

Plenty of "Fl og of the Year" memes for Goodes going around social media at the moment.

The booing is only going to escalate, Mr Goodes.

I understand that there is racism at the footy, however i did question the way that situation was handled with that 13yo girl.

He is a big man and people do hurl names at the big key forwards and defenders like gorillas, brutes, etc. The big key forwards are regularly called the gorillas by the players themselves, usually the defenders will refer to the opposition key forwards as the gorillas. I can see how a 13 yo could have innocently called that out, even if she didn't. Who knows.

Anyone who isn't paralysed by the fear of being labelled a racist themselves would admit that the situation could at least have been handled better, given it was a child and not an adult at the centre of it. Calling a 13 year old the "face of racism" and enabling her public mauling over what was on face value an innocent mistake, shouldn't be excused.

Racist images being posted on Goodes' wiki page proves that racists exist. Trying to concoct a link that proves the booing of Goodes at the game is on the whole racist is a wild jump to say the very least.

Some posters seem unwilling to accept the multitude of reasons why Goodes gets booed outside of e neat little tick box called racism. That's their perogative. It doesn't make those other reasons disappear.

I would however ask what these posters with their mocking tones are actually DOING to address racism and the race divide in this country?

If your passion is genuine, harness it, and actually DO something about it. Something that extends beyond expressing moral outrage on an internet forum over a footballer being booed.

"I would however ask what these posters with their mocking tones are actually DOING to address racism and the race divide in this country"?

Or the other problems of our society, Drugs, The Homeless, Crimes against women, Paedophilia, et al

Lets face it many social problems exist and Racism and Race divide are but one issue.

Adam Goodes wants to be taken seriously. Can I suggest to Mr. Goodes that as soon as he retires he join the Liberal or Labour party and run as a member of Parliament!

If he cares so much then it is only logical that he feels so compelled to do something about it as a politician!

Wow, you're coming from a looong way back in the pack.

I... nup, can't be bothered. Why don't you just get on back to commenting on The Bolt Report.

Its a fairly typical lefty, I want to save the world response to something you don't like. Attack the man rather than respond to any of the comments. You will be pleased to know that I CGAF what you think about my viewpoint.

How is the view for your high horse there Mr Muppet? Are you speaking on behalf of the world with that sweeping statement?

At least 50% Australians are inherently racist, they say they're not but usually start a derogatory sentence with "l'm not racist but......" Goodes IS being booed because of race and his outspoken views about stolen generation and white Australians treatment of indigenous people over 220 years! I reckon he's a great role model for aboriginal kids to stand up and not take the crap and tokenism of white Australians anymore!

Statements like this Dave are so insane it's not funny. You don't speak for me or many other 'white' Australians. Stop these stupid sweeping generalisations.

Michael Long has similar views and also speaks up. Adam Goodes isn't the only one that speaks up, but he is the only one (indigenous) being 'booed'.

I suspect you are right that 50% of Australian's are inherently racist, but I disagree that the only reason Goodes is being booed is due to race.

IMO it has to do with the perception that Goodes is selfish, much like Brent Harvey. Both receive criticism over their selfish behaviour - and this leads to people not liking them.

I didn't like Long as a footballer because I thought he was a dirty mongrel sniping players like Ricky Jackson and Troy Simonds but I respect his stand on racism much more than I do Goodes.

Nothing at all? Interesting you say that because three of the five reasons you claim Goodes is not liked relate directly to his race. And I disagree with your OTT summation of all five.

You're welcome to disagree with me but your response shows where many like yourselves don't understand the issues. You say three of my reasons for not liking Goodes are directly related to race. I couldn't disagree more strongly. It's about his actions and his response to a number of racial incidents.

Just to make it crystal clear for you, I have seen no-one trying to justify the racist attacks on Goodes. Nor have I seen anyone trying to deny the claim that some people bo-ing Goodes are doing so because of race. But it is clearly not all people that boo him.

What I have seen and what I don't like is the way Goodes responds to those attacks. That has nothing to do with being a racist or the colour of someone's skin. It's about a person's behaviour. I have responded to another post about Michael Long who IMO has dealt with racist issues with much more balance and dignity than Goodes ever has. I respect him for that.

The political correctness brigade that tries to tarnish anyone who disagrees with them or anyone that doesn't like Goodes - for whatever reason - as racists are frankly pathetic. They clearly can't distinguish between a person who is boo-ed because of his actions and boo-ed because of his colour.

Come on Song, that's just not true. So I guess calling Goodes a monkey or King Kong isn't racist? Regardless of what people think of the incident with the 13 yr old girl, the boos are definitely related to that. Or should he just suck it up and accept the racist insults, like generations of Indigenous footballers?

Guys i have it on good authority that Goodes actually went along with a "playing down" of that young Girl's racism rant/incident to assist her in not being on the receiving end of OTT retribution from all and sundry at such a young age were the real truth of what was said to come out.

The "official" line from those involved, including Goodes in response to alot of press questioning, was that she called him a big ape. According to what i heard from someone involved at the ground It was much worse than that!

The Hawks boo him for no obvious reason, which might possibly be racism but might also be their mis guided view of his reaction to the "offocial" ape line that was trolled to the media. I wonder if the booing that goes on would be so wide spread if they new what was really said.

Whatever the reason, some people then expect him to lay low in the indigenous round and not give a yelp! As far as i'm concerned the indigenous community had a big role in developing this game to where it is, they live and breathe it in many areas of Australia and are amazing to watch at the highest level. I admire their courage at being able to bridge the massive cultural divide between the western way of life and their's in an everyday sense, let alone play footy in front of so many at the highest level and cop the crap that they must cop (and have been for decades....Winmar!). If Goodes wants to do a tribal dance in honor of his indigenous mates then bring it on! The game can do with a bit of cultural injection and dance anyways! The all blacks do this before every game and as part of ceremony.

I hold Adam Goodes in the highest regard and admire him as a great footballer of our day who gives 100% effort pretty much every time. I only wish we had of had this great player in our team for the duration of his career. The culture and value he would add to any club is invaluable, not to mention his ability to turn/win matches off his own boot, gut running and inspirational 2nd & 3rd efforts.

Love or loathe him he will be seen as one of the greats of the game when he finally hangs up his boots.

I actually think calling out a 13 year old as the face of Australian racism was the perfect call - it's ingrained racism that is at the core of the issue, where a child doesn't know any better than to call an aboriginal an ape.

It opened up a massive dialogue, which was the whole point.

Goodes is not liked because he's strident and doesn't take a backwards step, nor is he content to go along.

Yes, of course you're right.

The USA has the Ku Klux Klan as the face of racism and we have a 13 year old girl who denies she was aware of Goodes' Aboriginality.

Brilliant.

Oh yes, and to hell with the child's rights to privacy and protection. She can get marched away by security, held in a back room for hours for questioning, called the "face of racism", have her family interviewed at length, made to give a grovelling publicised apology, and subject to god knows what that we haven't been privy to, all when she doesn't have a racist bone in her 13 year old body.

She naively called the large man an ape. Acceptable? No. But that was her crime. A one on one between her and Goodes immediately after the incident should've and would've sufficed. Couldn't have that though. This was an opportunity to have a knee jerk reaction and turn her into the "face of racism". You can't pass those up.

If a 33 year old man was going off in the street at a 13 year old girl who had called him an ape and the cops happened to drive past,he would have been arrested for child abuse.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
