WADA has only appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport twice on Australian sports doping matters. It lost both cases.

So I don't think anyone can feel vindicated, happy, sad, jubilant, disappointed or whatever until the case is completed later in the year.

All it does at present is put Essendon in the frying pan for another seven months.

I suggest you have a close look at the cases. Totally unrelated to this. WADA has a very strong record of appeals internationally on doping matters in football sports. Edited May 12, 2015 by Dees2014

AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh on Tuesday morning said the association was "extremely disappointed for the players" that the world's foremost authority on doping in sport was challenging the finding of the AFL anti-doping tribunal that cleared players of banned drug use.

What the hell does cleared of drug use mean, was that ever stated by the tribunal?

The AFLPA should be taking legal action against the EFC for administering unknown drugs, not being disappointed in WADA. If WADA thinks things are bad enough to appeal to the CAS the AFLPA should be screaming for EFC's blood from the rooftops!

I think the AFLPA have more questions to answer themselves. It beggars belief that they knew nothing of the injection regime at Essendon.

Why didn't they step in at the time and protect their players?

I find the whole stance of the AFLPA quite reprehensible actually. They seem either naive , disingenuous or just plain dumb....maybe all 3 !! They clearly dont understand whats actually going on, or dont care.

Not that it counts for a lot around here, but early media buzz is that no one can understand why WADA would appeal.

There's a lot of "no one's" post here, Ash35 - haven't you been listening? And plenty of clear-enough assessment of the media coverage, too.

(Ash probably does deserve some respect for his courage and usual civility in posting here, though I do wonder what he imagines he might achieve. But this post was insulting and disrespectful, no matter what his tone was. I object to such insinuating and context-denying posts. I think his "not that it counts for a lot around here" is unnecessarily dismissive and implies we are wilfully ignoring a consensus of reasonable commentators. You'll need to do better than that Ash. And we are willing to talk with you if you do - but join in our discussion, if you come on. That ought to mean, don't dismiss out of hand major threads in our discussion. If the World anti doping body thinks there is a problem then there is a problem. Can they prove it who knows but this is big news!

If the media can't understand it that says a lot about the media.

The World sporting body is pursuing this, that is a story, there is no way they would do this if they didn't think there was a problem at EFC.

Sports lawyer/academic on ABC radio just now saying decision to appeal was surprising. But not taking the usual media/EFC line. She said it was surprising because AFL is not an international support and because WADA doesn't often appeal having limited resources. Shows how significant this is.

I think the players association have a lot to answer for, regardless of the potential use of TB4 in my opinion they have a responsibility to know intimate details of an injection program on the scale of this one.

In my opinion they should have been provided updates, detailed records and been kept very much in the loop so they could keep an eye out for the players

they either, simply did not know about it, in which case they shouldn't now be slamming WADA for persuing the issue futher

or they did know about it, and were given records vindicating the EFC, which clearly did not happen or ASADA would have them

or they were flat out lied to by the EFC, they know that's the case and the AFL have told them to keep their mouths shut so players aren't suspended

Most disappointing is the AFLPA lack of concern for the health of their players. All they seem concerned about is their image. Mirrors Bruce Reid's lack of concern for his patients - seemed more concerned for his employer. Unethical (at best).
