Toumpas Is a dud. I have defended him in the past but he [censored] up everything he touched in the game he played as sub and simply isn't afl football standard at this stage. I hope he makes me eat my words but I see more in Brayshaw after a handful of games than I have seen in toumpas ever.vwhat does he bring to the team. Not hard. Not fast. Not clean. Not creative. What is it that the coaches see

He has never really had a consistent run of games to find his feet - I think it is mainly a confidence thing - we know he can kick its just a lot of second guessing and lack of confidence that finds him in trouble.

He is smart, can be clean, has a great tank and as a junior did seem to be quick (don't know what happened there?). We need quick outside mids - really hope we can develop Toump and Stretch properly.

Saw the second half of final Casey praccy match and I was impressed by Stretch. Natural footy smarts.

Yeh i'm not saying he wont be good demoniac, just don't think we should entre' him in this particular match, or a few immediately after that! Def worth a look when the opponent is appropriate.

huge week for Roos

some moves on selection night and on game day have just got a few eyebrows raised

they bounced back from the shocker that was round 2

will they come back again or is this another belting?

we are at very long odds again

Wow controversial changes

Feel for Grimes. Confused about Jamar.

This team is definitely not very strong. I was hopeful of having a chance if Viney and Jetta were to return. But now I don't think we can win.

Might give waking up in the middle of the night to catch this match.

I also question what Watts has to do worse to get dropped.

Watts should thank Jordie for that! Was the only one with a worse performance statistically. Although to be fair on Jordie he was only on the ground half as long as Jack

Michie is stiff, thought he was one of our better players against freo and great against Richmond and broke in on strong form, not a fan of this change

Agreed. I think he is suited to playing against the Swans in the wet too. More so than Toumpas or Stretch, I would have thought.

Very, by my junk stats compilation rankings he was 8th just behind the Jones boy last week.

This is easily our worst team of the year and likely to be thumped by 12 sausage rolls (plus) as a result unless it absolutely pizzez down. Might be 50 if so. Bring on the rain!

Posted

Toump was sent to casey with particular areas to work on in his game, it's possible he was always seem as best 22 and the coaches are now satisfied he has improved those areas?

Can't play full stop. And if you like I'll put the same comment up on Saturday night!

On top of the Mc Kenzie blunder last week is this one! Pig dog in the Wet against the swans should have been a "Shoe In"

Wrong question (whether meant as a joke or as a genuine inquiry).

Instead, (can I suggest) ask "what was it he did that got him picked?" The selectors would have an answer, I am quite certain.

"Selection" is selecting - it's not a process of rejecting/punishing; it's not a TV elimination game.

Slightly different point - my question: what's wrong with so many of us on here, that we are so negative, so anti our own players? So focused on punishment rather than on growth?

Sure the team's been down for a while, but maybe what's going on is we have been infiltrated by TV-land's love affair with bullying and drawn-out rituals of exclusion/elimination. Some of us sound like our default is to hover in judgement and barrack for destructions. Real wise-guy knockers, marketed as supporters.

Change channels/mindsets, snipers - Roos is in charge, and he still does not see it the way you do.

(Even here on Demonland, requests for a dislike button go unheeded: the forum still won't facilitate split-second disapproval...)

Or walk away... success ain't gonna grow out of denigration.

Happy to see big Jake back in the team. Also, best of luck to Billy the kid on his debut. Sad to say i'll miss my first home game this year as I'm seeing my friend play a gig Saturday night, fingers crossed they'll have the footy on. I feel we're a sneaky chance in this one.

I love Spencer's aggression, I hope he has learnt how to dispose of the ball.

I really hope the Toump does well and shuts a few people up.

Great to see Billy has earnt a game, hope it is enjoyable for him.

Mckenzie is a bloke who has I believe extracted everything he could out of himself and if only our whole list played with his effort and intensity. That said I don't think he will play again except for injuries as we are finally building more depth and others have gone past him.

Grimes is in a similar boat. I was/am a big fan of his but his disposal lets him down at times and whilst I am disappointed that he hasn't been able to fix it up and stay in the team, I trust Roos and co with the decision.

I think Jamar going out is as much about the last couple of games as it is about the future.

Michie I'm assuming is based on the defensive side of his game which when in the twos was a common theme. Hope he continues to work on it and goes back and smashes it at casey.

What is it a school band?, who plays a gig between 7.20 and 10.30, get them to video it and you can come to the game

lol first time in 5 years that I didn't hate Grimes' game and he gets dropped. Surely Richmond will chuck us a 2nd rounder for Cotch's new mentor.

I hope Spencer takes some of Hawthorn's angry pills and some of Essendon's 'roids.

Goodluck to SOS.

I'd like to reserve a Jack Watts thread for 10:35 pm Saturday night thank you.

No Jetta, no Melbourne.

This game was going to be my glorious return to the footy after a forced 3 year absence, but [censored] that.

Grimes wasn't curtailed by being captain. He's just a good vfl player that's all

He was more than that in his first couple of seasons... In 2010-11 I remember him been a very reliable backman who was taking intercept marks left right and centre. 2012 his made captain and never been the same, coincidence.. I think not

We're tanking.

Please. By picking a team for the circumstances that we're in, we are doing exactly what every club is entirely within its rights to do and something to which the AFL CEO endorsed time and again during the era when several clubs managed their lists in exactly the same way. This morphed into "match fixing", a term usually associated with parties rigging results for their own financial gain and used against people at the club by those who had their own agendas. It's taken us a long time to put some distance between that era and where we are now and it's certainly no longer a joke.

Grimes & Mckenzie were set up to fail.

No. They were asked to perform. No surprise that Sandilands, Fyfe, Mayne and Mundy dominated the game for Freo and three of their four direct opponents have been dropped. Neither Grimes or McKenzie were asked to play in the ruck or at FB, so I don't get this comment at all. Both Grimes and McKenzie might have been regarded as depth at the start of the year, sadly it appears they may not even be that anymore. What role can either play given neither is particularly quick, not particularly skilful and don't get a lot of it. I don't get the comments about Jordie being a 'role' player i.e. tagger and therefor wasted as a sub. Who would he have played on, Fyfe, Mundy, Barlow? nope. Their most damaging mid is actually Hill, nope can't keep up with him or Pearce. Neale the only logical match up, but why bring a bloke in to tag their 5-6th best midfielder? He was brought in because he was in good form and unfortunately he didn't make the most of his limited chance.

Too Tall, Too Slow. We look like a cricket side with 11 batsmen.

Watts will have to play extra small

This is a perplexing comment... how so? We need two KPP in Hogan and Dawes and a relieving ruck Pedo. Frost is injured otherwise he gets the job. I assume Watts comes onto the ground when Spencer comes off. We've gone for outside pace in Toumpas & Stretch to replace types unable to provide the run and spread.

Cannot believe that we haven't gone with Gawn and Riley who have both played well at Casey

Instead we have Spencer (Cant ruck) and Toumpas (completely underwhelming) in the Team

We are already carrying a passenger in Watts. I am very dissappointed in the selection we have lost this at the selection table

Why wouldn't you have Riley in in the Wet at the G against the Swans. Not even an emergency he must have really pi885d Roos off at some stage

One suggested cure for insomnia: use the advanced search function to find Picket Fence + Toumpas and begin reading his collected posts.

How is Toumpas in? Has he been playing well at Casey?

No underwhelming and not in the top 10

Again, why didn't he give the captaincy up when Trenners did?

Jamar out is interesting...

Watts named on the bench also, must be on notice

means zero - Tyson is never named on the bench and nearly starts every game on the bench - he is first rotation onto the ground after 3-5 minutes.

Where they line up or are named is fairly immaterial.

The list is on notice...I think some careers are done

This team has to come out breathing fire on Saturday night

If they don't they never will...

Or they won't this week and will next week ?

You are prone to the big statement....

I can't wait to hear the commentators call Stretch's first mark.

Roos has said in numerous occasions he struggles with the sub, I think this shows he has no idea with it. He needs to had the responsibility off to someone else to set it up and when to use it like Macca or even Goodwin?

Do you think Roos works in isolation ? From all reports he is one of most collaborative coaches in the competition. You don't think this is discussed with coaching panel and at selection - it is just an Abbott "captains pick" ?

Cant play Footy at this level Pass now and don't waste everybodys time on another poor pick

On Jamar and Spencer.

Spencer is now 25 - he has played 29 senior games - it's now or never (as in this season).

For me Jamar offers zero outside ruck contests. Spencer has been good at VFL level - all you can do is promote and hope he can bring the same form into the AFL. So far he hasn't but that shouldn't stop you promoting him.

The most disappointing for me is Gawn - he has shown he has the most tools of all our ruckman but displays them with least consistency.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
