Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The more i think about Aaron VandenBerg the more i think how amazing it is that a bloke can come out of the NEAFL and adjust to the Tempo of AFL with absolutely no issue, he was seriously sharp in round 1,

i think that's a reflection of the quality of training and coaches we have, but also of Aaron as a player, some of our blokes have taken quite a long time to adjust in the past.

I think it is a reflection of Aaron.

It is also a reflection of our list that he could go past so many, so quickly.

It is also a reflectiojn that he is not an 18yr old kid, has a big mature body, and has been playing in the NEAFL for the last couple of years against the reserves from the Swans, Giants, Suns and Lions, so has seen what it takes to be on an AFL list

That was swift...

I love this phrase, Vandenberg got his chance, took it, and at the moment is in the team, all the ones you mentioned above did the same, we had one last year who came in as a mature recruit and played really well for the first couple of games and was enthused to the hills on here, remind me where he is now?

Hopefullly Vanders can maintain his form and stay in the 22

Why wouldn't you have Riley in in the Wet at the G against the Swans. Not even an emergency he must have really pi885d Roos off at some stage

Can people stop going on about Riley. There are question marks on his disposal and his fitness. He does one thing well. As we're seeing, that's not enough.

Some odd comments on these pages. More than a few pushing their personal barrows, irrespective of the reality.

Happy with the changes, the new ins have earned it, and it would seem that the outs have earned it as well.

There is conjecture about big Pencil, but we have to give him game-time to see if he can make an impression. I think we will suffer at centre bounce so he will have to show some flair around the game. Well at least run and controlled aggression. Despite Gawn's poor form he also needs to be given a chance in future games. Jamar is yesterdays man and not part of the future so we need to challenge the other two to see if they are up to it.

Grimes and Michie are stiff given other decisions or non-decisions. They would be pretty disappointed. Part of me doesn't like it, part of me does. Michie is presumably being punished for his game last week to send a clear message to him to lift his work rate and defensive game, In regard to Grimes, I have the feeling that Roos and Co have decided that Grimes is not part of their future plans given the development of others down back whereas they see a few others......you know what I mean.......still as an important part of their future plans.

VanDemon shits all over those other blokes. Terlich, M Jones and Mckenzie only got consistent games because we were a basket case and our list was one of the worst in AFL history.

They would not have got a game at any other club

Roos on Jamar:

"We spoke to Mark this morning and said, 'We're not unhappy with they way you've been playing but it's hard to do it week in, week out'," Roos said on Friday.

"His concentration levels have got to be enormous. You've got to get to 80, 90 stoppages and then in between stoppages you've got to be active.

"It's probably as much about the position now, it's just a really tough role.

Interesting but Roos still only wants to play 1 ruckman.

Will be watching Spenc with interest to see what he gives around the ground. I do like his mongrel and attack on the contest. From the pre-season reports he is as fit as he has ever been. he is 5cm taller than Jamar and 3kg heaveier and 6 yrs younger.

Jamar doesn't give much around the ground and at best mullifies the centre clearance work so its a great chance for Spence to show his improvement.

Well said

Jamar does well for his size but is smaller than many key forwards

Do you think Roos works in isolation ? From all reports he is one of most collaborative coaches in the competition. You don't think this is discussed with coaching panel and at selection - it is just an Abbott "captains pick" ?

The way he has talked about the use of the sub in the past has been him stating he doesn't like it and doesn't really use it well. I've taken that as his choice as senior coach when it has been used.

If this was true, why play him at Casey, I smell a platitude, out of contract, out of form, been a good battler for the club, Roos should have identified the ruck position as a matter of urgency, now we are caught out as usual, with nobody in the bleachers.

Bet they sign Wolf Minston next year.

Casey have Gawn and Fitzy listed so he may only play 50% game time or play in the goal square.

While our ruck stocks aren't that promising I would rather us look at fixing up other areas first (might be able to find someone mature cheaply - Stefan Martin)

He doesn't like it, I'm not sure that means he doesn't use it well. He's talked with 'bomber' about how it can be difficult and they both agree (pretty much all senior coaches do) but it's more to make his point that it should be gone.

Given some of the concerns on this thread I'm not sure anyone here has been following Spencer's development. He has been carefully developed over the past several years. He has grown physically, in confidence, in aggro and in skills. During his last stint in the seniors he played some good footy until injured. Ross acknowledged this at the time, so he has clearly been viewed as the replacement ruck.

Let's just see what he has to offer.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
